Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sofia's been announced. That doesn't mean rumours is dead though

Remember, we're still waiting on the Cyber-shot flip and slider. They're still yet to come.

UPDATE:

Nice layout on the first post shaliron

@thecoolsha
Thanks

I hope you guys like the visual refresh of the first post. I wanted to change the layout of the rumours, because much of it was confirmed/false etc. so it really made everything a little confusing to read. So only the rumours stay at the top now, for easy reading.

And I've injected a little colour and pinstripes into the post - it's readable for me (ClearType 'on'). Give me a shout if you reckon it's a little difficult to decifer.

I must say they did a better job with the incremental upgrade of the W950i than with the K800i, or maybe it's just that I'm a bigger fan of smartphones. Anyway if this was the incremental update I'm really excited about the true successor.

if you look at the new Media screen on k850i and w910
and the new walkman interface on w960

u'll understand the relevance of me posting those youtube videos of the Japanese UI earlier. (those being realized now: full screen visualization, bubbles flying around, landscape walkman screen and menu, cross menu with new organization.... more to come)

Posted by Aware
Ooo.....does this mean we finally get the awesome Japanese spec calendar(a la SO903i), Xumdeo??

Way overdue....

Posted by xumdeo
it is actually a cross between Nokia's new LiveBlog on their s60 phones (e.g. n76), and the timeline view for your pictures on SE phones

but just for the record, the PIM interface is often neglected as it is reflected as less important from market research. people usually accept them as long as they are not ugly.....

Still, there are so many hi-tech rumored phones for this year to be announced. P3i, non-touchscreen phone with 5 mp camera, the real heir of w900 and clamshell with a 5 mp camera

Posted by KingBooker5
Why is this thread still running? All the new phones have been announced which have been mentioned here. This thread is like a restruant, and this is the starter. Look we have had the starter, lets move to the main cource: The official threads. This thread should be locked. Lets move on to the proper threads of the phones now!

Posted by m.h Croatia
lol, did you even looked at the first page? And did you even looked at my post? This mentioned phones are even more spectacular than w910, k850 and w960!

Posted by KingBooker5
The high ends have already been anounced for q4 and there will be no more for the year. The only new phones SE will consider realsing will be mid- low ends. All the phones you are talking about now arnt comming out. You should re open this thread in 2008 and rename it that. Dude keep thinking more spectaculer. More spectaculer next year!

@KingBooker5
There are still quite a few phones left for the year. This thread is for all Sony Ericsson rumours this year.

@xumdeo
So I guess the funky Japanese menus/UIs are to be further integrated into SE phones in the future

But I'm wondering about when SE plans to introduce the clamshell and slider Cyber-shots. The slider form factor would be perfect to build a camera orientated phone out of.

True but I very much doubt there gonna be "spectaculer" or contender to the 3 SE announced a couple of days ago

Sorry about that, it was directed to Croatia, who was saying that they will make even more spectaculer phones then the new 3 by the end of the year.

@KingBooker15
It's alright. It's just that you made it sound as though, once Sofia etc. are announced, there's no point having rumours anymore. There's still a lot more to talk about - whether low end, mid range, or high end.

Posted by kreacher
Yeah at least 13 phones to go according to the first post (40 - 27).
This is the first time I'm hoping SE introduces phone variants with little differences so I can get a Sofia version minus the second video call camera.

Posted by iqtidar
there is... k858

Posted by Rifqi_Aziz
@shaliron
Why K200 and K220 not included in the portfolio in the first page?

Posted by shaliron
@Rifqi_Aziz
That list is for the rumours that have turned out to be true. It doesn't cover phones that weren't previously rumoured.

UPDATE:

can someone please tell me whats an accelerometer?

It's an electromechanical device that will measure acceleration forces. These forces may be static, like the constant force of gravity pulling at your feet, or they could be dynamic - caused by moving or vibrating the accelerometer.

High g accelerometers are the industry standard way of detecting car crashes and deploying airbags at just the right time :]

So it's a device that can sense its surroundings, like if it is going up, down, left, right, if it's shaking etc and then provide the interface with data about it, for example in the W910, if u tilt the phone to the left -> change to next song :]

who said (before the 14june announcement)
that the k850 would be UIQ for sure??

Posted by xumdeo
obviously not me

Posted by mustafabay
Now would the video call resolution increase once HSUPA is implemented?

I understan a rotating deskstand. But why couldn't SE just stick to one location for the Fastport, ie on the side.

Posted by xumdeo
the whitepaper says video calling is 176x144max for the mean time

To put it simply, a device which can measure movement or orientation. So if the phone is held horizontally, it will rotate the screen horizontally (like the N95). Or for example on the Wii, when it can detect speed etc.

@Dart5
Actually, that's about the limit the 3G/HSDPA networks can take. It's a network bandwidth limit that restricts the amount of data that can be uploaded/downloaded at one time. But who uses video calling anyway?

What role does graphics processor play in producing high-fi sound( mobile devices)?

Any news about P3 or clamshell phone with Bravia screen?

BRAVIA screens will be announced by Xmas

Posted by xumdeo
since the screen itself will not be good enough for EU market, it'll also come with a killer app

sorry if I missed something but what's the meaning of this:
The W960 is the equivalent of the K810 in terms of being a successor to the W950. There's still a true successor in the workings.
isn't the w960 the real w950 sucessor??

Nice work, Xumdeo!

Chronic to think SE would actually have working, finalized cameras in prototype phones....
...remember, at the N95 announcement, the chap(can't remember his name of the top of my head, sorry) only pulled it out of his pocket, didn't even turn it on!

Elena shows up at FCC

http://justamp.blogspot.com/2[....]sson-elena-appears-at-fcc.html

Posted by iqtidar
hey, elena is p1

Posted by makbil
Guys, in case you may have missed it, I have posted elsewhere that the P1 will not be any different than the P990 in terms of memory leaks, it will just take longer. I strongly urge you all to skip the P1 and wait for a Symbian 9.5 device.

Info/Memory Leak
From UIQ3 open-source software

Garbarge Collector

Symbian OS uses a Garbage Collector as memory manager - in theory this should ease programming.

However Until Symbian 9.5 Symbian only uses an inferior non moving collector. (To be fair: moving collectors don't go well with programming languages which support pointer arithmetic)

With a non moving collector memory becomes fragmented into ever smaller parts until larger memory requests cannot be satisfied any more. To make matter worse: Fragmentation happens a lot quicker of only little free space is available - Which is the case for early UIQ3 phones.

This leads to the dreaded "Restart to improve performance" as restarting is the ultimate way to reclaim and compact all memory. Just ending all programs won't help since there are quite a few programs on the phone which will never end.

As mentioned Symbian 9.5 rectifies this shortcomings and now uses a moving collector which will be able to re-arrange memory so that free memory will be available as one great continues lump.

XIP or the lack of it

Prior to SymbianOS 9.0, many Symbian devices used XIP (eXecute In Place) NOR based memory, which mean nothing had to be loaded into RAM to execute, but this came at the cost of very slow write times. Starting with 9.0, most devices moved to a NAND based memory system, which does not support XIP, and so EVERYTHING has to be loaded into RAM (and kept there) in order to execute. That's why it takes over 40MB of RAM to run the system, as everything is kept at all times

hey, that elena pic is the same as the fcc lizy pic
