Is it Sophia or Sofia... or is it two diffrent phones(regions)?
Is "Sophia" only like an plattform?
I.e. You use the "sophia" plattform for a phone named... hmm... say Emmelie, so you actually then have "Sophia Emmelie"!?!?!
Anoyone knows or heard anything if the K800 successor (Sophia?/K900?) will have TOMTOM pre installed?
Posted by kokosalaki
it's Sofia not Sophia
Sofia is K800/810 successor
dunno nothing about the TomTom though

'PeterKay??'
.....um, I think he's had a little trouble obtaining his protos; his T650 'review' hasn't materialised yet either(although it seems he managed to get an S500i)...
.....c'mon PK, show us what you're made of!

This is what we call "INNOVATION", not like nokia is doing so that is combining all common hardwares in the market like GPS, 5Mp camera, and so on which are not so attractive to those japanese people. any phone manufacturer can beat nokia's feature one by one. LG can beat them in design, samsung can beat them in Broadband, SE in camera, Motorola and so on. but these japanese phones are overwhelming, Bravia screen is a terrifying feature by which if employed to European and asian SE phones will force Samsung to produce "boardeux" LCD in their ultra phones to compete with. agree they are so benefited with technology from SE. if only they Miles Flint realizes this perspectives, then SE will surely rule mobile phones.

Hmm looking at it seems like a really low end phone tho!!!

Can anyone tell me how to decipher the information in the link above?

Guys, i'm doing my best but Sofia is hard to get hold off.
S500i is all i will get this week, unfortunately.
must've warned all proto testers to return them back!!
especially with Sofia!

Yes it's ugly, yes it's only for Japan, but I WANT THE 2,7", 16:9 BRAVIA SCREEN NOW!
Seriously, if they released a phone with that screen in Europe, I would sell my little brother for it. (sorry bro').
Posted by JC08
That screen lo0ks wicked co0l....Hope se europe use it soon

wat does the japanese phone work on?...like r they gsm?...if so that wud be cul i knw i few ppl who go there sometimes maybe they will be able 2 bring 1 bck...is that possible or illegal?
Posted by obakesan
not sure about network but supposedly Japanese phones don't have SIM cards. They are "internal" to the network. If you had one in Europe it most likely won't work which would explain why say Japanese students can't use them here (Europe) so Ive heard.
Cheers

After the number of P1 spotted in the wild before the announcement, it only makes sense that SE will try to keep their cards closer to their chest this time around.
Oh well never mind, we had a good run with the P1i

But the announcment is only next week right so whats with all the secrecy?
Even the P1 spypics made it out before hand.

@ bav
The development teams that are working on "really" new models - are
bound not to talk (and show) too much. With "really" I mean all those models
that are completely new, and not the remakes.

this is XML file with other format, almost all XML files can be opened to read in RAW in Notepad, you can just drag and drop the file into notepad and it will be opened...

is there any chance to see a miniUSB port and a 3.5mm audio jack in the next phones?
I mean nokia and other manufactures have already this feature in some models, I think it would be really a great improvement
thnx

Probably not because that would mean that all those accessories that
made for their phones would be incompatible. And that would mean more $$ for new accessories.

from P1 review
Real heir P990i moved on in time for the end of 2007 or early 2008.The device has the same amount of RAM as P1, but increased processor clock frequency, plus retained flip. The design is similar to the first four model series.

I must say I was dissapointed when I eventually saw Sofia, I was on wap and I though I was eventually going to see something else. At least the Japanese phones are nice. I'm not saying sofia isn't, its just the build up for the last few days was that the prototype was just a platform for testing. I still like Sofia but it would be nice if we could understand the controls.
Posted by bavlondon2
Thats what people said about the K800 and even the K750 to an extent. SE phones are always a bit quirky in design but in the areas they are designed for they always perform so dont moan.
Posted by mustafabay
Sofia though is quite an outlandish design, one of the weirdest I've ever seen. People didn't like the K800 much at first because of the increase in size over the K750 wich was a great sized phone. And as I remember the only reason people didn't initially like the K750 because the spy pics Eldar leaked were puke colored.
But the question I believe remains, is the black and green combination going to be used? S500 has it.
For some weird reason I seem to have a feeling I've seen a sofia's back in green, I didn't right?

i still dont like the design of the k800...its chubby and nothing really amazing about it. This (sophia) looks different. The green looks different and its better than the joystick i hope!
Posted by alrodlop35
Forget W52s! That CASIO phone looks amazing!!! 28mm wide lens!!!!!
Now forget what I just said. I want a W52s! Just drop the K800's camera module in there along with the Z750's radio hardware and we're in business...
Sofia and Shinobu will hopefully feature the same bands as the Z750 so that means they're for American market, too. So that explains the Talk and End keys.
Posted by laurenke01
Sofia looks gigantic. Does anyone have ballpark guesstimate dimensions on this thing?
Posted by bodeh6
Sofia according to zulee over at MR is 102x48x17. Great size.
Posted by laurenke01
Ahhhhhh...
So the reason it looks stretched horizontally in relation to the K800 is because it isn't--it's squished vertically.
Interesting...

That's to small for Sofia

I remember >500 also mentioning that Sofia was quite thin.

The thinner the better.
Posted by goldenface
Sofia = 102x48x17
T610 = 102x44x19
So its a small and wide but not overly thin.
They've done well to keep any us knowing only this much.

if there isn't any announcment about Sofia on the 28th i'm gonna Buy N95 on 29th lol......Can't Wait Any More !!!!!!!

I'm not getting my hopes up to tell you the truth. There have so many disappointments in the past.
Posted by >500
@kreacher
yes i did mention that..... plans were to make it similar in size to k610i, obviously its not going to be exact same size (would be hard to fit 5mp etc in k610 size for now) so it doesnt surprise me its a tad wider/thicker.....
Posted by goldenface
If that is the Sofia pic, I am surprised not to see the fastport on the side trend carried on.

Well, for all you know, they could had come out with a similar concept as what they did with their Sony Cybershot T series where they use prism to have the mechanism working sideways internally instead with actual optical zoom and all.
----->
Edit insert:
I am looking at my Sony DSC-T30 which should be more than a year old now and it's about 18mm thick (just 1mm more than the K610) when measured at where the lens is, and mind you that is with a big ass screen at the back. Of course this is a digital camera, but it shows what kind of engineering marvel is possible.
Of course this doesn't mean that I am fully suggesting that Sofia is going to have zoom and all.
----->
But as far as I am concerned, phone's camera = for convenience more than anything else.
Personally, this is my own opinion, I will choose a SLR any day for the fact that it will still be superior due to the size. I rather have my phone small for everyday use and carry a big chunky stuff when I'm on holidays or taking photos of sceneries and stuff.
EOS for the win! =P

I love the Sony Alpha camera for it's unique in-camera stabilizer unlike some DSLRs i.e. Nikon D80's in-lens stabilization. as you have said: it shows what kind of engineering marvel is possible =D
anyway i bet sofia and shinobu will have UIQ 3.1, if that would be true, then i'll be loving SE more and more.

This is good news, so the flip isn't dead. I hope they give it the P1i qwerty.

So now we have a more offical pic of Sofia with missing softkeys and just silver line indicators below the screen, how do you think the UI will operate? Touchscreen? unlikely. the keys 1,2 &3 as left middle and right keys? but that wouldnt work while texting. Im confused!
Posted by laurenke01
The three softkeys are still visible in that shot, but are really dim.
