How i see it:
Q1 and 2 = mid range phones, mid to high end phones announcements and release.
Q3 and 4 = High end phones announcements July at earliest to September latest, release September, October, November and December for Christmas.
I remember rumours that SEs best of 2007 are at the end of the year, and with Sofia comfirmed for a September release (eldars review Nokia N95), the rumour of a clamshell 5mp phone, Maria still to come it seems they are leaving the best for last. Its like theres a deliberate climax from low mid end average phones up to high end as the year goes on.

Call me a Fanboy, but I love SE phones. I can't wait till Sofia. I find the SE UI to be best. I have tried S60 phones and find them slow and the UI is not as good as SE's UI.
So the next announcement might be in August.

I heard that Nokia and Windows Mobile 6 phone have very advanced Voice Command application. But there is almost no news on how advance has been made to SE Voice Command application. Will new Voice Command application be embedded on SE new models ? Can anyone shed some light on this issue ?

My point is, NOKIA > learn from its mistake, other brand mistake, then improve them? Dont u feel that nokia has copied SE solution in camera ui, media player ui, from SE then they improve it? Remember nokia launces n91, 5300, or other black music edition?

But in SONY ERICSSON case, they keep PRESISTENT - STUBBORN, they didnt or slowly improving. SE should copy what nokia done and IMPROVE IT! Not like now, they are offering no/little changes/almost same platform in every phone! They playing deaf when their customer critize them for good.
Do you feel sad for SE? Of course We Do! Also you might see many esato user have been disappointed in previous launch.
So lets teach SE one or two lesson to make a good phone & listening to their customer, by not buying theirs! Until they make it a good one.

for every one of you that moans about SE not being cutting edge or whatever, there's another 10 that's pleased with what's on offer. for example, do I need a 5MP camera in a phone seriously? do I need DVB-H or whatever it's called? no, I need a phone with a decent camera that looks good and feels good. what do I get? the T650i, I'm pretty pleased with that.
how do I prove my point? have a look at how SE is doing, in terms of returns on investment? compare that against say, Nokia?

People, we are customers, not managers of phone manufacturers, move on to a brand that does it for you. If you are really concerned about SE as a business become their CEO or manager, cos you seem to have alot to say about how SEs mobile phone portfolio and technology are dissapointing. Dont forget we just want a good phone that suits us. If a phone doesnt suit you, MOVE ON and find one that does. Why get attatched to phone brands when another suits you better? If nokia n95 appeals to you (which of course it will, almost everyone on here are mobile geeks and have to have the best), get it! Save your bickering for goodness sake!

Well, YOU might not need it, other people might find those functions useful and want it. SE's have been coming out with phones with specs worse than phones from two years ago. Their Walkman phones have no AF, I mean wtf man, their cameras are total bullshit without AF. Their phones costs a fortune yet the specs suck ass. Their designs are alright, but that's not what everybody wants. People want better features than the ones they keep on reusing. Basically, when a new phone from SE Walkman gets leaked, one can usually assume it's 2 mp cam w/ no AF, Walkman software and the usual.
I'm not exactly a fanboy of Nokia, but you have to admit, their phones are good all-rounders. They have good music players and decent cameras, plus the Symbian OS.
I was a SE fanboy till they totally disappointed me after the K800i. NO phones from SE are interesting after the release of the K800i. In my opinion, the W900i was the only phone from SE that was actually interesting and decent. It had a good mix of camera, music, video recording, good screen, good memory, and a pretty good UI.

Face it, the majority of the market does not care about these features that you speak of, how many people buy a phone so that they can take good pictures or videos? how many people would bother debating about a/f or no a/f? how many people know what aperture means?

I am another person who buys phones for their photo and video capabilities - infact i like to trade photos and videos with my friends - when se released the k750 it was the phone of choice for me and my friends because of its then market leading camera, in the last year or so people have switched to nokias and samsungs because they have far superior video capabilities, now its mainly videos we trade and no one will touch s.e's because they want to trade videos. I skipped the k800 coz of its poor video and it now looks like i will be going another year without a new S.E. Thats just my story.

There has been a distinctive lack of high-end multimedia devices.
A 3.2MP device with a Walkman player can't be that difficult to bring to market.
Apart from HSDPA on the Z750i, there has been no real breakthrough devices so far this year so it would be nice to have them announced and launched before Christmas.
In fact it would be a good idea to have any 'sophisticated' devices launched before the busy 4th quarter as it will be giving themselves plenty of time to iron out any BUGS that may appear.

Shinobu is HSPDA walkman slider, 2mp, 2.4 inch screen, new ui with hang/ pick up keys. Rumour pics were released a while go with nicole as well which will apparently have sagem ui.

Probably, but it has been hinted at in this thread that there is more than one 5.0MP phone in development / testing and the green 'sofia' pic that we seen looked to be quite old and battered as if it had been around for a while - although from what I can remember the picture was taken late 2006.

Well the buttons on the T650i are the first time we have seen buttons like that so the Sofia could have been a test bed for them and other stuff.
Originally I thought the phone was too big to be Sofia but then I realised its the same shape and size as a K610, which is what Sofia is rumoured to be much the same as - wide and flat (14mm thin).

I have a couple of questions...
a) What is the pin hole to the left of the ear-piece for on the T650 and on the supposed early Sofia proto pics? It appears what was earlier passed off as the video calling camera is on the T650 also but the T650 has a video call camera on the right hand side.
b) Could it be a possibility that the sofia prototype pictures are actually pictures of an early T650, but SE decided to go for the 3.2MP instead of a 5MP unit, thus making the 5MP unit more exclusive to Sofia (and possibly one other)?
c) Wht the hell is that stand attached to the T650 in the above picture?? I've not seen one of those before! Obviously some kind of docking station for SE phones with the port on the side. Does any one else have more info?

a) Its an ambient light sensor, this adjusts the brightness of the keypad etc in relation to the surrounding lighting conditions. Saves battery power.
b) Possibly but I would say more 3.2mp cams were in the pipeline anyway.
c) I bellieve that stand is exclusive to the T650i

b) its the K850 (cybershot), not made from the same materials as the T650 (emotional)
c) its the new charging stand that comes with the T650 that makes charging via the side fastport easier. (only for K650 atm as its for the exact height of the T650)

Thanks for the answers, but does this mean that sofia won't have a front camera? Is that because it's data rates will be less than 3g or because they just hadn't designed one into the proto? I suppose time will tell but I know some of you must be smarties and have the answer

whatever SE is doing, they're going in the right direction profit wise and catering to the majority market, as their figures show. and that indicates more and more of the market are purchasing SE phones. do you still think that they are going in the 'wrong' direction? just cos' they're not doing what YOU want them to do? they as a corporate entity has a vision as to what the market as a whole would expect, and they're doing so with a solid foundation in mind.
I'm not saying SE would not venture into the 'experimental' and high-tech market anytime soon, after all they did come out with the W900i (an 'experimental' phone for a niche market). but don't you think the features that gadgeteers expect are coming too fast too soon? there's life yet in the VGA camera market, what to say the 3.2MP cameras. do you expect them to go into the 5MP market that soon? what next? 10MP? DSLR camera phones? what I'm saying is the mass market needs time to adjust, and what's wrong with not being a pioneer and just refining what you're good at in the mid-end?
you have a right to complain that SE doesn't have this or that, but what's the point? just get a N95 or whatever it is you like. it's May, and SE hasn't even revealed half of their portfolio this year. they might be taking their time, the new products might not meet YOUR expectations. at the end of the day, it shows in SE's market share.
