Hello, first post and all that...
One question I havent really seen answered here... How long do these things usualy take from announcement to actualy being available on contracts?
My contract is up around Feb 8th and I want to change it, but I also want to wait for the new K770 if it isnt going to be too long... otherwise might just have to choose between the K800 or W810...

Well after the P990i experience, it has been said that
won't let us wait for too long after the official announcement.
However, I would imagine most of the upcoming phones wil be hitting the shelves from March onwards: six weeks after the official announcement would be a good guestimate.

rnd (research and development) has improved over the years. And it looks as though this will be one of main goals this year, early as possible releases to help gain more market 'power'
And apparently a lot of the phones, well the ones which are to be announced shortly, are ready for mass production, they just need the 'go ahead'/orders
...So hopefully that results in earlier releases, especially for sofia which we all thought was june release like k800...But i think it should be april or may for sofia, i hope....

an extra 6 weeks sounds not to bad a wait... There doesnt seem to be much excitement around the K770 really, but from what I've seen SE only really has one decent "all in one" phone at the moment with the W810. Interesting that a walkman phone has the best camera out of most of their more recent releases

@ goldenface, I think we can expect to still have differences between the Walkman and Cyber-shot family in 2007, but I expect them to not be so big as they have been lately. For instance, the K770's twin brother, will most probably have AF again. But it really seems like SE will only be making a smartphone as the all mighty all-in one device (which is a good idea as they are more powerful in general).
@ stulane, actually the W900i is a little better, photo wise and especially video wise.

example UIQ, WiFi, larger screen, higher video quality, even more and powerfull Walkman features...
I'm sure that this will ensure more strong
in the market, I was disappointed after some news about going for mass market rather than ultra-high-quality products as they did with phones like T68, P800, K700, K750, etc..
I know mass market phones give more profits than ultra-high-quality, but the company view in the cosumer's eyes are made with such low-mass/high-quality phones...
there's nothing stopping
from going both in my opinion except they need more R&D and manufacturing cabilities to handle both markets ( mass market & high-quality )
ofcourse building a mass market phone does NOT mean low quality, but what I'm seeing now speacilly on this year the features of phones are not what we can expect specially those who lived the grow and live between T68 & K800.

I see what you mean... its almost as though they are holding back on some of their phones... The K610im would have been great if only it had a better camera (auto focus and LEDs) what were they thinking? infact I'd probably go straight out and get one instad of waiting around to see if K770 comes out in Q1

Hmm... that's interesting. Sounds like a brilliant phone. Slim, smart, and probably gorgeous. What more could you want?
I guess this does take SE's dual front philosophy to the extreme. Literally camera on the back and phone/music on the front.
SE needs to move in this direction anyway. It was a matter of time, and there are no Sony brand names that represent all-in-one; so why not combine
and Cyber-shot. I bet this phone will have a hefty price tag, but it's for gadget guys like us who are willing to pay for the privilege. Wonder what the index will be.

won't be surprised if they are working on the successor of sofia's successor lol
typically it takes about 18 months for a phone to move from the design board to shelves
some phones took less time, of course, the lower end ones, and some like Z610 which was just taken off-stream halfway another project (the "another project" is still going on, obviously it's something that we'll see this year, duh)

It is 100% photoshoped based on K750. Look at the edge of the "C" button, it has different distance from number "3" than the "back button" from number "1". Also the joystic is bad designed going into the screen which makes no sense. Everything else looks like K750. Even the logo is not aligned with the speaker just by a little.
I am really wondering why people spend time photoshoping stuff. Just to impress unknown people that are hidden behind usernames? That is nuts.
