This makes sense, now that
has a lot more dollars it makes sense for them to invest in better materials and metallic handsets are really nice.
The W200 will have a its buyers. Not every handset that
has to be the best ever, they have to produce handsets to suit most pockets and one of the most attractive things about the W200 will probably be its price.
2007. New Year, new month = lots of great new handsets.
Come on - where are these spy pics.

Well considering the W200 will only cost at most 60 pounds on PAYG, it doesn't seem so bad. The omission of Bluetooth sounds silly, but I'm still hoping that it's based more on the K320 than the K310.
Still remembering that it gets quite a few extras like the
headphones, data cable and the memory card, it seems like a decent deal for what its price will probably be.
Posted by goldenface
£60?
Jeez thats cheap for a
handset. This will definitely be a hit at that low price.
Like Shaliron says - nicely packaged with headphones, software etc and it will fly off the shelves. Very clever!
Not including BT is questionable as this phone will be aimed at the yoof and sharing stuff is good. Not including BT cuts that out altogether.

@mustafabay
I'm itching to see what Sofia looks like - really. If
get this right then it will be the Cameraphone to end all Cameraphones.
Who really needs anything more than 5mp - any more than that and its just a gimmick.
I predict that the design of Sofia may not be liked by all at first but will grow on people eventually.
If the video isn't up to W900i capabilities then there will be some disappointment to say the least. I really hope
doesn't save the improved video for a new handycam range, thus further segmenting the range. This will make it difficult for people to let go of their W900is etc.

@goldenface
60 pounds is just an educated guess. The W300 is around 72 pounds on PAYG here, so you'd expect this to be a fair bit cheaper. It's only a 'candybar' and with less bundled memory and no Bluetooth, 60 pounds for a max price sounds reasonable.
And I sure hope the design (of the Sofia) is likable. Metal and in the size of a K610. What can go wrong? The K610 was a beauty and the flagship phone can't be worse can it?
And goldenface, are you one of those W900 owners?

@Shaliron
I am one of those W900i owners.
I am really hoping that for a flagship cameraphone
makes a bit of a statement with the design - it'll be an expensive device so I hope it stands out somewhat.
A brushed metal finish would be a good move as that would give out a quality feel. I think I am gonna burst if I don't see what it looks like soon.

@goldenface
Well all that I've heard about the design is that it is nice, but it is not as 'exclusive' as the Ai in design (which is comforting to know IMO). But judging from the new designs, it'll be nothing like the K750 and K800.
It may go back to when the flagship model was totally different from its predecessor (T610>K700>K750).
Posted by goldenface
@Shaliron
Yeah it seems that little line went from metal to plastic, T610 - K700i - K750i - K800i.
That must have been a costcutting decision.

in 2007 we might have 3 mobiles with 5mp
sofia+S..... (1)+handycam
but u said that S..... (1) Lack of 3G but with EDGE
and also Sofia has EDGE and UTMS
will sofia has EDGE or only 3G?
Posted by BobaFett
actually, which coming models will support edge and 3g?
Posted by goldenface
@boba.
There is bound to be more than a couple with EDGE enabled. HSDPA phones should also be in the pipeline.

u r thinking in the right way but dont you think a walkman phone with bluetooth but without a shitty vga cam could have been a much better option then this idiotic w200
wat say buddy
stupid se
in that way it can be useful for both type of people like those who dont need a cam and smart phone features but nice looking phone with good music fm memory bluetooth in very less price

Regarding someone mentioning that the K750 was plastic, look and feel carefully. The 'black' area around the keypad, if you notice is actually a 'separate' piece and it's actually metal.

@bobafett
I actually think that this year most of SE's phones will have EDGE. That's a guess on my part but looking at some of the phones it looks to be on quite a few low to mid range phones, which suggests that it can only be a standard feature on SE phones from now on. Like the Z310 which is a low end phone, yet it has EDGE. The other phones which have it are: Serena (W610), Sofia, K550, and the Ai (W880). That's just what we know from rumours so the rest should also have it as well.
The Ai also has HSDPA. Read below.
@b4u
Well maybe the lack of Bluetooth is just because it is based on the K310 and not the K320 (which is still not a good reason). But it is probably lessened to decrease the price and make it a lower end choice to the W300. The W300 would probably be the phone to choose if you wanted bluetooth.
Who knows, maybe SE will have a W100 with no camera?
@nneo
Well the gaming phone will not be announced in the near future. It is only in the development stage, so there is definitely going to be no announcement yet.
And thanks to an anonymous source (who can name themselves if they so please, but I'm awaiting your response), we've got the full specs for the Ai. Not that we didn't know most of it already, but it still is an interesting read. Seems like most of the stuff we know is correct. Note that I've left it as I received it, so it looks a little messy:
SE Ai / Music and Web'n'Walk: Data Fact Sheet
Feature List:
Messaging (SMS, MMS, email, IM, PTT) SMS, MMS 1.2, OMA push email not,
IMPS 1.1
WAP/Web-Browser Netfront Access 3.3
Java/ Games (embedded/3D) Yes (MIDP 2.0) / Yes
DRM OMA DRM 2.0
RDM OTAP 7.1, OMA DM 1.2, OMA-CP 1.1
Interfaces USB 2.0, BT 2.0 (A2DP)
Camera/Flash/Video 2 Mpix/No/Yes
Display (size/resolution/colour depth) QVGA 262 K colours, TFT 1.8'',
240x320 pix
Video player/Streaming Yes/Yes, H.263, MPEG-4, H.264
playback
Video telephony Yes
Music player Yes, Walkman player 2.0
Ringtones (supported codecs) MP3, eAAC+
Memory (int./ext. incl.) 32 MB internal+ 1 GB MS Micro
Band Triband (900/1800/1900)+UMTS 2100
GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA class GPRS (class 10)/UMTS
WLAN NO
Processor / OS DB 2020/OSE
T-Mobile MMI customization YES, icons, content, settings.
Battery (standby/talktime) ~300 hours / GSM: ~7, UMTS: ~3 hours
Dimensions (mm) (LxWxH) 102x46,5x9,4 mm
Weight (g) <80g
Specials: (e.g. exclusive covers/content)
So it looks as though the phone is HSPDA as we expected. SE's first 3.5G phone and knowing this, I could only expect that the Sofia will be 3.5G as well. We were right with the 1GB M2 stick that comes with the phone (very generous) and of course the
v2.0 player. No wi-fi as expected.
But the size is really something. Only 102x46x9.4mm big! That's tiny. Not overly wide and not overly tall, a feature not normally associated with thin phones. To put that into perspective, it's a K610 which has been slimmed down by around 7.5mm. But the concession is that the screen is also relatively small at only 1.8 inches, but it is QVGA.
A comparison of sizes:
Don't the keys look tiny!
Posted by goldenface
I see t-mobile will be picking it up.
PTT. Isn't it only Orange in the UK that supports this?
Are you sure about the HSDPA as its a bit confusing the way it is listed

Now my question is how high does a phone have to be to get a 1GB card? Would the W770 be that lucky? Why aren't we getting 2" screens, not to mention 24-bit color? Sadly the Rokr E2 is looking attractive.

i really hope your wrong about not announcing the g series anyway it is abit hard to belive it anyway (that it will be announced)
anyway the AI is exclusivly and unarguably the ugliest looking phone to ever be made in mobile history!!!! wow unbelivably ugly!!

ow and as for the w220i its really good style-wise nice work thanks

I can't agree with you nneo.. In order to like SE design you must understand it! All SE models looked somehow ugly to me at 1st look. After keeping them for a while i realised what they wanted to do and i started to like it.. the AI serie is not very very beautiful but it has STYLE!
I bet u'll like it when u'll get your hands on'em..

I was beginning to think the the port on the side feature meant
has a specific range of accessories for Cybershot/Walkman phones but from the pics of the W200 this doesn't seem so.
Can you give us any clue as to why the position of the port has changed?
On Ai it is on the side but on the W200 is is at the bottom.
I can only envisage confusion when trying to work out which handsets will be compatible with certain accessories.

The AI has a nice set of specs, so it will certainly have a lot of accesories that u can use.. but, since the w200 is a low-end phone, what accs. could u use with it except charger and headset?
I personally dislike the port, either on the side or on the bottom.. every SE phone i owned had problems with that port when conected to earphones after few months.. they should really adopt USB port and a 3.5mm jack.

Great pics. The W200 really does look really nice for a low end. The white looks more striking than the black IMO.
And guys, don't fret about photos! We should be happy with what we already have, and the phones aren't very far off from announcement anyway.
But the W200 actually has some advanced features like the flash menus (correct me if the naming is wrong) which allow icon changes and horizontal menus. But for a low end phone this is going to be a hit. The design looks like the W800, and the back looks like the W850. It should be a hit.
And BTW, the battery on the Ai is of 950mAh capacity. That's more than the thicker K800 (900mAh)! Amazing what they can fit into such a small battery, imagine the ones for the Sofia etc.
And I remember reading somewhere that the Ai will cost only around 230 pounds, which is pretty cheap, so it ain't that expensive
