@d_t
Which three clamshells are you talking about? The Z610 was codenamed Miyu so I don't have a clue.
I'm not going to remove it just yet. The guy who first posted said that it was going to be a Chocolate competitor.
@christiano
Well we know that there's a phone with a 5 megapixel camera, and will almost definitely have QVGA recording. Just read the first post.
UPDATE:
-QVGA should be at least 15fps; that's the worst case scenario. Has more to do with stability issues.
-The Ai almost definitely seems like the
version of the K650. They share similar aethetics, i.e. keypad.
-The Ai's keys are horrible.
| Quote: |
|
Not good news
-The Ai's screen is only 1.8 inches, but wouldn't it be more logical to be 1.9 inches like the other recent phones?
-The Ai will have 3G and HSDPA.
-The K650 is 2.5G not 3G. Seems weird though, seeing as it is meant to be the 6233 competitor... Could be like the K790/K800 though and have two versions. Also, it is meant to be the W650 (Ai)'s brother.
MORE:
-Big news. UIQ on SE phones has reached the end. SE will begin using another platform, probably S60. This spells the death for The P series.
-New SE UI will have active standby.
-K810 to have QVGA recording @ 30fps, but could also be 15fps. Mixed reports have made it unclear.

i know about 5mpx
but will there be a
with thies specs or some of them?
Posted by shaliron
@christiano
Everything is one first page. The W880 should have at least a 2 megapixel camera (maybe 3), stereo speakers, and QVGA recording. Don't expect AF for any
phones in the near future (next year at least).
Posted by nettl
So Moli is Z550, and Moli Touch is the TS-featuring Z558? Makes sense - both are already released...
Posted by goldenface
There must be a reason for AI to have a screen as small as a W810i. The K800i is 2"+ and that is 3G.
If AI is to have a smaller screen and be 3G at the same time! - well it doesn't make sense unless there is another screen somewhere else.
3G is for watching video downloads - it goes hand in hand with multimedia devices like the K800i. Are they doing this to prove they can put 3G in a device as small as the W810i?
What is the reasoning for such a small screen?
Posted by shaliron
I've fixed up the Moli thing. All makes sense now (after googling it).
@goldenface
Well the display is small but fine (still QVGA) so there should be any dramas with text etc., but it could be just a power limitation. If the screen were to be any bigger, the battery life could only be worse.
But if that were the case, they should've just put a 176x220 pixel screen in. QVGA @ 1.8 inches in silly.
Still this is going to be more of an accessory, a fashion statement, and a Nano competitor. Some things would have to be sacrificed.

u said that UIQ r dead right
so there's a chanse that
make a new platform and not using s6o
Posted by d_t
The phone you call K650 is not the cybershot version of Ai, they are not really similar in apperance. The earlier guesses was correct. The numeric keys of the Ai and the one you call K650 are however quite similar.
Posted by mustafabay
Who said UIQ is dead? Any sources?
Posted by shaliron
@mustafabay
From M-R forums somewhere. Can't find it now. It might not be immediate, but apparently S60 etc. are much easier to develop for, due to more widespread use and popularity.
The delay of the P990 was due to just trying to get the platform stable.
Posted by cristiano
# HSDPA phones - An unknown number in development. Available Q2 2007. Ai is one of them.
AI is going to be in market by Q1 no Q2

Sony Ericsson W320 White Paper (R1A)
but it's for K320 ,maybe it's just a mistake or the w320 is comming soon
http://developer.sonyericsson[....]ls/phonespecs/p_phonespecs.jsp
Posted by Hmyzak_SE
Yes, it IS a mistake, there is whitepaper K320i instead of name W320i
Posted by bavlondon2
What will be the next high end phone. Will it be the sucessor to the k800 or a new range?
SE should surley make an announcment before xmas.
Posted by ares
The UIQ is dead thing is completely unfounded...
Posted by bavlondon2
Whats Moli? Is that a high end phone?
Posted by shaliron
@bavlondon2
Moli is the Z550. That's why I took it off the list.
And the UIQ thing, well I can't find where I read it anymore, so I'll just take it off the list.
I do remember some people (on other forums) saying that it was going to be gone by the end of next year, but hey, if I can't prove it... don't say I didn't tell you so though

Just got this information :
London, UK – November 7, 2006 - Sony Ericsson today announced it has reached agreement in principle for acquiring the Swedish software company UIQ Technology AB, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Symbian Ltd. UIQ Technology, which uses Symbian OS™, licenses the UIQ user interface and application development platform to mobile phone vendors worldwide.

I thought "the death of UIQ" previously mentioned here meant the death of UIQ as a "company", not UIQ as an "OS". CMIIW.
Posted by shaliron
Yeah, I think the thread that I must have read could've been an old rumour. Might explain why I can't find the thread now. I guess UIQ is here to stay.
Posted by shaliron
Update:
Three phones will come within 3-4 months. We think we know at least two: M600 successor and W950 with a camera.
Maybe the rumours of the Handycam being a smartphone are true?

I jst hope we see more High End Phones from SE this year as i have been so dissapointed with the range of high end phones produced by them in 2006.
They should be getting back to basics and putting all of their best features in 3 or 4 phones with different form factors...so a candy bar, slide and clamshell with 3.2 - 5mp cams, good walkmans players...3g..wi fi...just a good selection of good phones, rather than this year when if you didnt get the k800, you had to suffer for either..a standard 2mp non auto focus camera..or an older walkman...or less memory.
its just plain stupid, birng out a few top phones then people will have a choice of what they want!

But really, they make more money this way. Sales have gone up this year more than ever, so their strategy is working. What's wrong with a company making money?
Now it gives us consumers more choice than ever, and really, TBH high end phones don't sell nearly as well as mid range phones.
How many N93s have been sold realistically as a percentage of total mobile sales?

See what I don't understand is
hasn't really got a true multimedia device - one with good
, and true imaging and video.
The nearest is the P990i which is a business handheld, and the good old W900i which is a bit long in the tooth now but still very capable.
There is a huge gap for such a device and its long overdue.
Why are we waiting, why are we waiting........?
Posted by shaliron
Update:
The time between announcement and release date for UIQ phones will be very little from now on.
That's really good news, considering the whole P990 fiasco.
And a true multimedia device is not SE's aim anymore. They just want sales now, but I sure hope that they build an Ultimate series for true high end phones, like the N95. I can only imagine that if this were to happen though, that it would cost a bomb.

According to a recent interview there are more high-end handsets on the way for 2007 with UIQ featuring as the OS. UIQ will eventually migrate from high-end to mid range devices as more devices become available.
Also
will be getting more leverage from the Sony brands next year. Doesn't say which or if new brands will appear on
handsets.

"We were the first out (with UIQ) and we are broadening the (UIQ) portfolio," said Jan. This was echoed by Mats who said, "We are really working heavily on increasing our product portfolio in UIQ. Next year you will see more products and we will offer more and a wider product portfolio and we are really focusing on UIQ as a platform........ |
| Quote: |
"On the subject of significant volumes of UIQ phones from mid market devices Mats was less forthcoming, although he did point out that "to make them (UIQ phones) crappy is not the way to success". He then sighted Moore's Law and some of the improvements this will bring in the next couple of years, suggesting that Sony Ericsson was not perusing an "at all costs" migration of UIQ to the mid-range. Rather Sony Ericsson would maintain UIQ as the basis of flagship products and migrate to the mid range as the components became available to enable this without compromising the user experience." |
May be this is why we haven't seen many high-end devices appear of late. UIQ is being prepped for them.
It would be nice if someone could filter out any more info from the presentation on this site - its by Jan Wareby anc Co.

There is quite a few interesting subjects. I don't have the facility at the moment.

Well we know of three UIQ handsets for next year. The M600 successor, the W950 with a camera which leaves us with the mystery Handycam phone which is rumoured to be UIQ.
I guess this might mean the the Handycam could be the first 'mainstream' UIQ phone.
Posted by strizlow800
I think it would be great if SE upgrade the W800. Put it a 3.5mm jack directly on the phone mainboard, 5 megapixel camera
Posted by goldenface
I doubt they would give a
a 5mp camera. I can imagine a 3.2mp cam on only a high-end
.
I am glad to hear new phones will be coming out early next year. I wasn't overly impressed with this years releases enough to splash out on one.
Posted by masseur
I wouldn't say that... I think the K800 and especially the M600 are worthy releases from this year
Posted by goldenface
The Video recording on the K800i was a big let down for me, it just didn't make me wanna replace my W900i at all.
I took about 1 hours worth of video on a trip to NYC with my W900i and it was brilliant playing it back when I got home, real, bright, clear recording and excellent sound too.
I would have missed that definitely.
I think it will be bloody amazing if
improve on the video recording on the W900i, I really do! It would just blow me away.
Posted by shaliron
@goldenface
Methinks you'll like the Handycam phone once it comes out
Posted by goldenface
I think so too.
I was impressed with the S700i when it appeared. The W900i topped that, now I am waiting for the next big step up. A Euro SO903i would suit me just fine though I would prefer it as a slider rather than a clam.
Posted by vrl29
and i hope that on new releases, they maintain the 'torch' feature that is seen on current
phones with camera except the K800. that feature is very handy when you suddenly dropped something in a dark area... Posted by cristiano
r we going to see new mobile after tommuro??

look what i found in this site
A new user interface is planned for the new models, according to images that have surfaced.

isn't d next cybershot supposed to be the d400? wasn't that wat was shown when they were talkin out pics for the k800 cam on mobile-review.com? i'm pretty sure that that was a sneak peek of the next cybershot. looked like slider, swivel or bar phone. no flip
Posted by shaliron
That interface is old news. http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=112675&p=5&g=Go
It's been around for months, and I don't think that's what is coming.
And the D400 (and A100) are the names of the K800 and K790's platform (I forgot which one).

sweet im gonna keep tabs on this thread, Im looking for a w810i replacement, must have awesome camera, in a small form factor, im thinkin w880.
Posted by shaliron
@*SonyStyle*
Welcome to Esato
And if you're looking for a small mobile with a good camera, I'd probably think about that rumoured K650 or the K810. Both of those seem small.
The W880 I think, judging from the specs, sounds like a not-so-small phone. Maybe it will be small, I don't know, but it just doesn't sound too small to me.
Posted by *SonyStyle*
yea, I love my w810i I have now, but when upgrading I was looking for something along the lines of what Ive got. I might sacrifice size if something along the lines of the 903si comes out.
Posted by shaliron
@*SonyStyle*
Yeah, the W880 sounds really nice. But it is all still rumours at the moment. Still, I am confident that something like the W880 will come out soon

It would be interesting to see what actually replaces the W810i. It is quite a small phone and I would be surprised if it turned out to be 3G - it would certainly have to have EDGE at least.
A K750i/W810i replacement would have to be in the pipeline by now for release early next year.
Can anyone guess which one of the rumoured phones it might be?

I reckon it'll be the W650 (the
K650). Looks small, but I'm not sure on it being 3G. There have been very reliable sources stating that it isn't, so I don't know what to think.
Posted by goldenface
The K650, although slim, doesn't look that small to me and I wouldn't it was better looking than the W810i - mind you that phone is hard to beat in the looks department.

Review of GSM-handset I-Mobile 902
http://www.mobile-review.com/review/imobile-902-en.shtml
-the fact that I-Mobile’s handset carries a camera module that we are to see in a number of upcoming Sony Ericsson-branded phones in 2007. Even a fleeting glance unveils near resemblance of interface layout with Sony Ericsson K750i, which is not just all another coincidence – the camera is in fact made by Sony. In Sony Ericsson’s brand new handsets the camera’s UI will be revamped with more features coming up, but the basic quality of snaps, as well as approximate size of future handsets, can be checked out today. This is the way we would like you to think of this review – it gives an idea of what we are about to see
