Well, all I now, is that SE as almost nothing new yet. Only de K320i ... so...

-One of the phones is Cybershot. Possibly 5 megapixel and 3x optical zoom
Highly doubt that ^^^
Posted by Red_Rach
Why? its not impossibe?
Posted by peacemf
there should be a 5MP cam, since nokia has already built one and about to put it back into the market next year!
Posted by SloopJohnB
I doubt the 5mp cybershot
phone will get even close to N95

And what's the difficulty of having a 5mp camera and 3x optical zoom. It's been done, separately, and it can't be too huge a problem for SE. Remember Sony has a lot of experience with cameras to help with the design for this.
It's also not like these phones are going to be released anytime soon, next year.
But, what I really find annoying is this mobile megapixel race. More megapixels do not increase the quality by much unless you really want to print out large PHONE photos. 6x4 is enough, and more megapixels in such a small sensor and lens means bad photo quality. Noise and storage is the biggest enemy.
3.2 megapixels is enough. I don't need 5. Seriously...
And the other section of the first post:

Thats what we ALL thought with 2MP with AutoFocus. now we have 3.2MP with image stabilization.
Memory size isnt a signifant jump from 2-5MP when we're talking about MSDuoPro standard. Think about M2 card then we're all worried until the format jumps to 2MB. I'm hoping that the read/write speeds increase that would be significant improvement to immediate saving, and jumping to getting ready to snap the next photo. Instead of choosing which of the BESTPIC photos to save - imagine ALL get saved, and you can sort'em out later.
> The whole megapixel race on phones bothers me too. But there is a reason we all stick with SE. QUALITY, thats right boys & girls you can say it too. Q.U.A.L.I.T.Y! 6x4 pics are good but I want that 10x8 photo to be the best quality so that if I crop it in photoshop or in iPhoto I can send them online - pics of varying size and arrangement/layout for the custom hardbinded photo album I've ordered for my family in Jamaica (put your family's country there). And you see the big picture. I want to have large photos that I can upload to my - to be created blog whenever I get the K790i for others to view.
> Most importantly if the video chip, lens and platform support will need to increase so that video recording dimensions increase from what we have and get better.
Some things to think about.

this is take from Mobile Review, statement made by Playdead:
http://forum2.mobile-review.com/showthread.php?t=55525
rss_ndrsn asks: "Is SE going to announce a phone similar to what they had announced lately (japanese phone)"
playdead:
"Yes But later and more advanced"
little extra from playdead in regards to announcement of this phone:
"chlettn, can't say much, cause I just don't know, announcement should be as usual before/in 3GSM in february/march
PS: remember SO902iS and k800? The latest is almost exact copy" (features-wise) of the japan model...
possible/likely k800i replacement mentioned by playdead?

Regarding megapixels, frankly i always like to have more,it gives me more room to play with and details.
Digital Image stabilisation is much like digital zoom, useless most of the time,
If its an optical one,oh yeah..

Cool! Hopefully some leakage will come out before then.

And now, I've picked up another one from Eldar's review of the Nokia 5300. A mid range
slider is to be released by the 1st quarter of 2007.
Here's what Eldar said:

I can imagine specs of QVGA screen, 1.3 or 2 megapixel camera...

Would be nice ...
Posted by Tehy03
sounds great but Sony Ericsson need to introduce soon 4-5 megapixel camera phone if they want to compete with Nokia.

But Nokia's not going to make a best seller out of that. It's far too expensive for the mass sale of these to the public. The K800 is about the premium that most people would pay for a phone.
Posted by chriswg85
Isn't the W850 a mid-range Walkman slider? Why do SE need another one?
Posted by shaliron
@chriswg52
Well, the W850 is a high-mid range phone. The new one will be low-mid range. Something like the K610 in price.
Posted by chriswg85
@ shaliron -- Thanks for clearing that up. I do suppose there is room for a slightly more low-end mid-range Walkman slider. It should be interesting to see how SE's slider range evolves.
Posted by DragonEye
i also agree the megapixel race is silly.. i rather have a 3.2 then matches a 3.2 d/c then a 5mp that still doesn't match a 3.2 dc in quality..
this new se will probably be a "normal" phone like the k800 so it won't compare overall to the n95.. but should have a superior camera and hopefully decent video recording too...
Posted by driftmania
how is the K800 a "normal" phone? a normal phone would be something low to mid end, not a self-claimed "best camera" phone.

K800i is basically a normal phone all its good for is the Cybershot 3.2MP, the technology that sony bought in to mobiles from digital cameras, so the K800 has nothing special other then the camera...
and if you go to japan you will see much higher MP cameras ive seen a 5mp voda phone from a exchange jap student, super high tech ^^

well the k800i is not a smartphone... so it's a normal phone.. runs the same UI as k750/w800/z610/w710 etc..etc.. but with minor UI tweaks and better hardware...
being a normal phone isn't a bad thing

Posted by JAGUY85
This is so exciting. I can hardly wait. I don't see anything else to upgrade my W810. Want SE to rescue me and fast. Lol. @Prom1. Nice seeing another Jamaican active on here. :-)

Bump.
Updated on first post. All the rumours into one easy to find package. Took a while
Posted by n3o
should we see some new phones...like the low-end Cayber-shot and ultra slim Walkman by the end of the year?? because on the SE official site there is no "comming soon" phones for the whole worlds market and for the ultra slim W is being said that it will hit the market in 1Q

Why not? Sharp have optical zoom in their 903. It shouldn't be impossible for
to squeeze such a lens in one of theirs. Maria sounds good to me, then again are we expecting too much for this cam to have AF? Should we get our hopes up?
Posted by shaliron
@goldenface
| Quote: |

Well the Sharp 903 is 29mm thick, but that's because it's a clamshell. Theoretically, it is possible to have a 3.2 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom in a candybar about 14.5mm thick.
That's in theory, but I reckon it wouldn't be anywhere as thin. You'd then have to stack the rest of the components over it, like the LCD and then it wouldn't be so thin anymore. Not to mention that I think the 'processor' or whatever processes the photos for the 903 is in the top half of the flip.
That's why the Samsung X820 is still so thin even with a camera, because with the landscape display, the components don't have to be stacked so high or 'thick'.
All is possible, but difficult.

shaliron, you could add this to the list for Sofia:
"Sofia in size of K610 with EDGE/UMTS with 2,2'' QVGA scratch resistant display, 5mpix xenon flash will be out."
Posted by shaliron
@deuxani
Nice, where'd you hear that?
EDIT: Doesn't matter. Found it at MR. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, isnt the E530 an Ericsson platform? I think I remember reading an old 2004/2003 PDF sourced from Ericsson.com subsite regarding that. I'll dig and edit my post to confirm.
Well I couldnt find evidence to support my claim but I wonder if anyone noticed this ...
http://www.ericsson.com/ericsson/press/20030618-084146.html
Ericsson selected by HTC as complete supplier of 3G mobile platforms
Date: Wednesday, June 18 2003.
hehe,,, our old :E: or /// was in FULL effect back in the day, and still is.

Update:
Sony Ericsson is working on a 14mm thick 3.2 megapixel Cybershot phone. Maybe an update to the K800 (like the W810 to the W800).
They also cancelled a rectangular looking swivel to focus on something more mass market (or something they 'think' the market wants'). Apparently larger than the 7370, meaning higher up in specs. Would've been W900 successor?
Maybe they changed it into a slider?
Posted by DevilHell
any successor to P990? possible P995 or P999? Or P999.9

I just hope
comes up with a cybershot/walkman wi-fi smartphone. Besides that it will just be cam or music and regular phones that run the same java apps for years. Thats why i said that
´s 5mpx cybershot wont get near N95, not cause of the cam but because of everything else. I know the market purposes but i´m interest in a mobile that appeals to me in terms of tech and
is not doing that right now and i´m a bit skeptic about the future. I just hope
doesnt downgrade phones anymore. We have had enough of that.
Posted by *Jojo*
Yup, it should definitely - 5 MP and NOT - 4 MP, as no one might buy it
Posted by Prom1
SloopJB; I'm with you on that. I just saw an incredible video of the N95 and man switching the DualSlide and menu is REAL fast; more so that existing MS Mobile devices on the market and THAT is saying something.
SE's next high end phone should have WiFi (with UMA support) built-in and Quadband for more sales. Give us a powerful camera and the ability for the END user to download their city/country's maps (UPDATED please) for their region with the ability to update via Wireless Provider or WiFI.
Now, as for a new smartphone. I can wait so long as its power efficient (frugal enough to last days with full options in swing), and menu is DAMN fast and enough RAM to use all apps without it crashing due to buffer underrun issues.
I dont want a slim device and Motorola & Samsung is beating that slim crap to death. Furthermore with others making fashion phones like Chocolate, dont bother SE you'll loose dollars! Make you phones fashionable yet time appealing as they usually are. I know that in 4 years time, tech specs aside I can use my W810 and not feel embarrassed in public to use it.
Posted by shaliron
Well the Handycam phone seems like the one you guys have been looking for. It is apparantly based upon the M600 and therefore means that it'll have UIQ. Let's just hope that it has a more stable firmware
Anyway, I've just added some more recently and the list'll keep getting updated so just keep checking for more updates
Posted by SloopJohnB
Prom1, i also like my w800 a lot and it will be an interesting device for quite some time... but these phones belong to a
that no longer exists. The desing and strategy of the company have changed. No more all-in-one top notch phones (like w800 that had the best cam and the best media player when it came out), instead we have a bunch of mid-end phones trying to reach out a bunch of different markets and nothing specially done for the techies heheh This is so true that
has even downgraded older platforms in order to follow the new direction.
I said i was skeptical because i still think
is gonna make a bunch of different phones with specific functions instead of one having almost all of them, like nokia does (nokia has several lines and still has a top notch all in one line, the n series). It appears now that instead of making really advanced new techs
is going to release AGAIN older plataforms but instead of being sold as
or cybers.,
is gonna make ´slim´ versions of them and sell the same thing for the third time.
Some phones here and there may have new techs like 5mpx cam, wi-fi, optical zoom and etc... but still no all-in-one phone and probably no smartphone for the mass market.
may be reaching new customers but its definately loosing old loyal ones.

Yet another update:
E series for 'Emotional' Design phones.
Only about three smartphones. Not as many as 2006.
Once again, an upgraded platform; a new UI.
New phone E510 which will become part of the Emotional design category.
