Since this is the Holy Month of Ramadan this is the ideal time to introduce a new technology product for muslims.
A prayer rug is a small and portable carpet that Muslims put on the floor when they perform their prayers. Its main function is to provide a clean and isolated platform for the prayer. With the specific patterns on its surface, it also aims to bring the atmosphere of a mosque to wherever they take it.
Muslims pray five times a day. The only product they need to perform their prayers is a prayer rug. And there is one thing they need to be careful about: the holy city of Mecca – the direction towards which they should perform their prayers.
'Sajjadah 1426' indicates the direction via the data coming from a compass module embedded inside it. The closer to the direction of Mecca it is turned, the brighter the patterns illuminate.
'Sajjadah 1426' enriches the praying experience with the illuminated patterns on its surface. The word 'sajjadah' is a Persian/Turkish word meaning 'prayer rug' and the number '1426' stands for '2005' in Islamic calendar. www.sonerozenc.com yankodesign

I doubt it will destract in anyway.

I guess when praying your full concentration should be towards your Creator and should not be distracted in any way..

Yes but also distracting objects and little kids are not allowed when praying...

Is it that hard to know the Qiblah. And while it might not be too distracting once you get used to it I'm pretty sure it would distract everyone around you.

that is so cool and beautiful, it's glow looks like it radiates enough so as not to need to turn on a light at night either, great design and nice idea, where can I buy one

You can use a compass, but this is a nice unique rug.

What I really need is a Qibla compass, I know you can get them built into the prayer mat, but I just want one on it's own. Can't seem to find them anywhere.

Yea saw this last year... its a great technology made for gd use.
Well for a non-technical way, in the day you can always follow the diretion of the sun set (west), that will lead you directly to Ka'abah, or the sun rise (east) and just face the oposite direction (west) to Ka'abah.
During the night, look upon the stars, find the 3 straight stars in a row, at the either end of these 3 stars will be a 4th star, that is the brightest star, once found, follow the direction of the line form by the stars.. wer the brightest star is the end and the normal 3 stars is pointing towards Ka'abah (west).
Thats the Beauty of Islam. Believe it.
W'salam.
