the P990a is definitly mentioned in the P990 white paper

i noticed that the p990a was on the white paper but does that mean that without a doubt it will be manfactured. are they any other threads about the p990a. thanks.

The P990a is also mentioned on the front of this "Fun & Downloads" pamphlet that came in the box of my P990i.

chriswg,
thanks for posting the pamphlet. i feel much better seeing proof that there will be a sony p990a. i just have to wait; hopefully not too long.

p990a?.... and whats that?
i mean whats the "a" for?
sorry for the silly question!

"a" stands for the gsm frequencies that the united states uses ie. 850 and 1900 bands. overseas use the 900 or 1800 bands. i am desperately awaiting the p990a because i will get better coverage in the US using the 850 and 1900 bands. in addition, i would be able to use the UMTS on the 1900 band. i just emailed a SE rep, who said "they have no intentions of making a p990a" but why are they putting on the "p990i white page" and pamphlets that there will be a p990a? is SE just playing with us? that ain't right!!

chriswg52,
hey. i noticed you have the p990i. do u use cingular or t-mobile? how's the reception? do u think the p990i is worth getting now? should i just wait for the p990a? what i was thinking was maybe buying the p990i now and if the p990a comes out then sell it and get the p990a. what do u think?

I just came from the US and spent a week with my P990i. I used Cingular both in Tennessee and California. No problems whatsoever. Good stable signals is what I got during my short stay. Hope this helps.

hey guys, someone on a different forum called a SE customer service person. the person said "off the record" there will be a sony p990a in 6 months. i'm going to call after work to verify. this is great news!!! the only thing is that i have to wait another 6 months
Posted by djsaad1
I dont know how great that news is, I expect a p1000 within 8 months.

hey louod,
I have a 990i and I use T-mobile and it works great. T-mobile is more capable with "I" (international) phones than Cingular. T- mobile can operate on the international fequencies....Not to say that Cingular wont work its just some people is some areas are having problems due to Cingular working on incapdible frequency.

djsaad1,
do u know for sure if the p1000 is going to come out in 8 months? if that's the case i guess i'll have two phones to choose from. hopefully the p1000 is much better and doesn't have any bugs
lcrkz0023,
hmm. i was considering to change to t-mobile if i got the p990i. the only thing is that i heard from someone that t-mobile might start using the 850 band also. that's why i wanted to wait for the "a" version. i'm still undecided whether i should wait or get the p990i now but anyways, thanks for the info.

where exactly in california were you able to get good reception? I'm located in LA and frequent the LA area.. and I wanted to know if the 1900 band from Cingular has sufficient signal for the p990. I want to buy it, but am a little skeptical on spending that much money on a phone I won't be able to use. please and thanks!

How much you got it from? I am getting mine later on this week for $650 for an asian version in Los Angeles. $620 for Europe, but they ran out of stock.
