i dont know if its just me but i have notice that if you reduce the bitrates of your mp3 you actually save battery power...before i did not have any mp3s lower than 128, but when i tried 52kbps, my battery power ran longer...try it, at the expense of music quality of course

yes, this thing really works not only with cell phones but with any other mp3 players. But, frankly 52Kbps? what kind of music is it then? is that really enough for you?

the expence of nice sounding music? na i like my bass drum n less fuzzie guitars and my drum symbols to sound like they do not like bells lol

up to 64kpbs it is mono sound, so thats why the battary is saved fo a bit longer

Most of my MP3's are in 320kbs (on computer), what would be the "best fit" for use on phone?

reduce the bitrates of your mp3s will produce a lower quality of sound.. that ain't a good thing anyway, thanks for sharing..

192 MP3, 128 for AAC (m4a, mp4) is my preferred.

You could go as low as 128 MP3 and 96 AAC, depends on your ears, but lower than that and the music is just too tinny (as someone said, the symbols sound like bells). K750 can only play maximum 192Kbps anyway, so your 320Kbps mp3's are out

@ max_wedge
was curious about you mentioning 320kbps mp3 playback not being possible on the K750/W800, so I just tested some 320kbps mp3s on my D750->W800 and everything worked fine (playback on the headset + speaker).
just did this cause I was sure I had listened to some 320kbps mp3s on my phone before

I only listen to the 320kbps 'near CD quality' versions of my mp3's,but i love my battery life!(my battery lasts 11 hours playing only 320kbps mp3's.Try it!58Kbps,64kbps,92kbps,128kbps and 192kbps STINKS!256kbps&320kbps RULES!

I use Sound Forge 8 to convert my songs to 128kbps. They sound GREAT on my W800i.

With that bitrate, it makes very little sense to use mp3, since it means nearly no compression at all. It's better to store the disk image instead on disk. The only advantage with mp3 in that case is that it is playable on some mp3 players. I say "some" since not all mp3 players are capable of handling that high bitrate. Too low bitrate is no good either, since the sound quality suffers. Files with bitrates below 64 kbps are not worth the effort of uploading to the mp3 player. IMHO, bitrates around 128 kbps are the best compromise between size and quality for mp3 players.

i like my mp3 at 128kbps or less, this is ok. i've read that this is near to cd quality. i need no more. from 96kbps to 128kbps is my range of mp3 quality

Of course, it's a matter of opinion, but also about in what way the mp3 player is being used. If you use it mostly in a noisy environment, like on the bus or in the subway, or if you use it mainly connected to your super-hi-fi equipment at home, there are different demands on the sound quality. Most of the times, in the way I use my phone as mp3 player, 128 kbps is enough for me.

usually 128 kbps is good for me, but I only have a 1GB mem stick on my phone and i usually listen to it when travelling for long hours, at 128kbps my k750 will run out of juice in 2 hours, but with 80-90, i could go for 4 hours, possibly...

i'm using 80kbps @ aac., 80kbps in aac is better than 128 in mp3

anything lower than 128kbps is not acceptable. on the hand, higher bitrate requires more card space. so here is my question, anyone here ever tried using a M2 4gb card in their phones? in my W660i, currently using a 2gb card. wanna use a 4gb card so that can still have the same number of songs but on a higher bitrate. anyone here can help?

anything lower than 128 would jeopardize your Walkman-listening experience...

i use Audiograbber and Audacity for compression.

yeah baby, Walkman rocks!

cheers!

I use apple lossless on my phone , songs go upto 50MB sometimes

"Save battery with mediocre quality mp3". What an amazingly interesting idea! Then you can also save money by buying a mediocre phone and mediocre earphones! And memory sticks with mediocre capacity! After buying all this mediocre hardware, then what music? Why not Barry Manilow!
