My suggestions - only free stuff:

Mig33 (free messenger in java)
j2me map (free google map java app with gps support)
Treck Buddy (gps app with offline maps)
Nav4all (great gps app, but needs gprs data to download maps)
Swiss manager (file explorer/task manager)
ScumVm (emular for running old Lucas Arts adventure games)
Mobipocket Reader (ebooks)
Jabplite (Financial app)
Capture Screen
AutoCam
Agile Messenger beta (only will work again with next firmware)
Opera Mini (browsing in FC mode)
Mtoolbox (it has a nice calculator to use in FC, and some other stuff)

You can find all this at my-symbian or at getjar.com

Worldmate is a brill program, i have the pro version and it really helps when travelling as i do quite a bit of travelling around the world on business.
if you pop over to my-symbian forums they have a special offer on worldmate pro, can get it half price but only valid till end of sept i think.

Heres the link:
