Gucci. if you phones fine then you should leave it however if you do want to update it you will have to change the product code and then run it through Nokia SU
ive never seen any E for edge on myphone ive read the manual it does say the phone supports it though
ive noticed upon doing long length texts it's now coming up 1, for 1 text and blah blah
also in the music player it's coming up with the next track at the bottom when ones playing
I also noticed that my albums on my Memory card the text on them had changed to Hong Kong text but not much though
Posted by BobaFett
i have version 5 on this n80, there si no upgrade out ( yet ) if there will be any
Posted by Tsepz_GP
Thats true @ Miss.UK
lol most of those things you noticed are in the V4 fw ive got except for the Hong Kong part
Posted by Miss UK
Boba you must have mine too then
btw if anyone wants to update there phones heres my topic on it
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=157798
Changing the housing the whole lot takes ages but changing
the front's easy
ive got 1 annoying bit of dust in myphone atm or it maybe a dead pixel lol
i'll just live with it
Posted by BobaFett
yeah, just checked it, max is 2 gb for n80

Posted by Miss UK
ive a 1GB in mine thats more then enough room I think
Posted by Tsepz_GP
Mine is still under warranty so il take it to Vodaworld and ask them to do the housing even if i have to pay lol
Yep ive also got a 1GB but ive already nearly used it all up
Posted by BobaFett
@gucci whats your standby time?
Posted by Tsepz_GP
Minimal use: a text, 30mins of wap, and 1hour of MXit (IM) it can last me 1.5days
but with normal use it lasts me like 13hours.
Posted by BobaFett
thats sad.... u have spare battery with u?
Posted by Miss UK
they still stock them thru networks over there then?
the networks have deleted it from the system here..
you can buy it from some sites still though £250 I think it is
My Standby is normally 1 day even less if im using it for calls
this new update might of changed that though will have to see how it goes
Posted by Tsepz_GP
@ Boba
Yep it is lol, dont have a spare battery, when im at home and not using it sits on the charger
@ Miss.UK
Yes as far as i know my network is still selling them and trying to clear-up remaining stock, N80 didn't do that well here in SA unlike N95, N70 and N73/N73-ME which are selling VERY well. And they have Black housings on sale.
Posted by BobaFett
the radio sadly isnt the best, imo same way weak performance, like in n70... is any of u using the visual radio connected to the net?
Posted by Tsepz_GP
I don't realy have a problem with the Radio, but then again i dont listen to it a lot. Havent tried the Visual Radio part of it yet.
Posted by BobaFett
i gave a try for visual radio when i had n70, not that bad, sadly its a kb eater, except u use it via wifi. but its nice to have a "world radio" with u
Posted by Miss UK
Gucci, I don't think it did to well here neither it came it saw
it died out to quick...
I made a phonecall for 1hr and the phone went off so the update hasn't improved that then
Boba how do you use the Visual radio?
can I tune into this
www.sunshine-live.de
let me know
been asking how to get this working for a while now
Posted by BobaFett
i gave back n80, had to put nokia maps and some maps on it, some other apps etc i have to admit, that screen i had to set ( brightness ) on level 3, cos under that level, its very dark... funny, my e60 on the lowest level offer the same brightness as n80 on level 3. next to it n80 is a nice little fone, but a battery eater...
Posted by Tsepz_GP
WOW @ Miss.uk that is disappointing, i don't make a lot of calls but now i know if i ever plan to make a long call i must a charger near by.
@ Boba
yep its like those V8 American Muscle cars VERY powerful but also seriously thursty or in this case power hungry.
Ive been looking at that N95 Classic in Sand colour for a while wondering if i should just get that? But does its battery run out as quickly as the N80's? I wonder.
Posted by Miss UK
I wouldn't recommend calling and using a charger lol the phone mite die. Killed a 7110 doing that and using wap via charger yrs ago lmao however mite be dif now who knows
Posted by BobaFett
n80 ahs got a 860 mah battery and nest to it that brill screen, wasnt hte best mixture, cos when u read my firmer post here according the screen, its a real battery eater.
Posted by Miss UK
appart from that though it charges in the fastest time
Posted by BobaFett
thats right, within 1.5 h its done.
another thing : got here n93, just tested it out of fun. its interesting, that u can take out the sim ( and change it if it is ) without turning off the fone. not bad idea
Posted by Dogmann
@Boba,
There is much more than just that i still actually miss my N93 and look forward to seeing it's true replacement which the N93i most certainly wasn't. As IMO it really was groundbreaking Multi media smart phone the first with the OMAP2420 chip VGA 30fps Video recording and a 3X optical Zoom now the newer version just needs HSDPA and 128Ram and possibly a newer chip and I'll definitely be interested in one again as i loved the form factor.

hwat was your standby time? does that continualy turning around the screen bad efffect the fone? i mean, i was alwasy afraid, that the cable could brake
Posted by Tsepz_GP
Yep, think il wait for the price to come down but if its still worth R6000 (ZAR) then il just try get a N81-8GB.
Yep N80 charges DAM quickly, thats one i realy like.
@ Boba
lucky you!
Posted by BobaFett

What's your setting on your N80's do you use
1, WCDMA
2, GSM
3, Dual ?
isn't the N93 big though?
I saw it in Berlin last year at the Nokia Shop
Posted by BobaFett
i use symbians alwasy in dual mode, but have mainly umts coverage. u?
Posted by Tsepz_GP
I use it in UMTS mode mainly since i have 3G coverage nearly everywhere i go especialy here at home. Well im taken my N80 in to Voda next weekend since im busy this weekend, its been RANDOMLY loosing signal then giving me "Sim Registration Failed" message and it freezes quite a bit now, bare in mind i dont have a lot of applications and i only have two games on it: Project Gotham Racing and Asphalt 2 3D. I wonder if they would give me a replacement N80, or maybe a different model like N73 or N76 maybe. . . .
Posted by BobaFett
u should bebrand it imo, branded fw are a real nightmare
Posted by freworld4u
when is n98 goin to be out ?
or is it already out in some countries?
Thanks.
Posted by BobaFett
afaik next year
Posted by Tsepz_GP
@ Boba
My N80 is generic, its completely non-branded,its a proper Original N80 i bought it like that.
unlike my SE W900 which was a Vodafone overbranded phone lol!
Posted by Miss UK
Gucci try updating to the newer firmware,
im sure Nokia send out signals to the phones to make you update them cos myphone was freezing up quite abit too last week it was really annoying me so I updated it... no probs since
whats the N98 have then
Posted by BobaFett
did u try nokia maps on n80? looks really good
Posted by Dogmann
Hi Boba,
I used my N93 in laptop mode about 98% of the time and it didn't become lose or suffer any problems other than one hardly visible rub mark on the silver band. But it was only noticeable if i pointed it out to some one and that was after 9 months of use. If it has HSDPA i would buy one again with out hesitation i really did love it. As even though it only had an ordinary keyboard it was one of the best and most tactile i have used.

Yep @ Miss.uk, think i will let the people over at Voda do it since i also want to replace the housing so they can do all of that at once.
Posted by Miss UK
Boba yep ive tried it... very good application
Gucci, have they gav you a quote for doing that yet?
Posted by Tsepz_GP
Nope not yet @ Miss.UK
But they did all that for my mate's W850 all for free since under warranty, hopefully they do the same for me lol
Posted by Miss UK
Lucky you then! Anyone know of a free SMS COUNTER for the phone?
Posted by Tsepz_GP
BUMP lol! I have yet to take my N80 in, been so busy with exams which end tomorrow and other things happening, hopefully i can take it in in the next few weeks before i go away on holiday, slide is realy starting to p**s me off now its TOO loose and the top part of the phone leans a bit to the left when open makes me think my phone is falling apart lol, but software wise its great, it hasn't restarted itself for about a month now, its going to do a lot of downloading this holiday season, im going to load some more avi movies like Surfs Up and Hitman hehe, and more apps, wish this had an Accelerometer and REALY wish Nokia could port Demand Paging to OS9.1 this phone would have been 10times better than it is now

Anyone know how to run a .rar file on the N95 ?
Posted by Miss UK
I need the Vodafone UK GPRS and MMS settings before I can re-use my N80 for the time being it's safely in a Nokia Pouch
Posted by Dogmann
@joemax
Why would you want to run a rar file? you could of course unrar it and then zip it as you can get and run a zip program just never seen one for rar files though.

@ miss uk :
Vodafone NL automatically sends the settings for internet and MMS per sms, within minutes after you put the simcard in another phone, doesn't Voda UK do this then ?
Posted by Miss UK
I put my Voda sim in my old 6100 and it came up enter pin,
funnily I hadn't activated a pin yet
btw no settings were sent to that phone looks like i'll have to painfully enter them manually into the N80 which I can't be bothered doing atm
Posted by Marly
It doesn't work with older phones and simple ones, only with newer models, able to receive settings OTA.
Have you tried your Voda sim in your N80 ?
Posted by Miss UK
No I haven't got round to putting it in that phone yet been using the E65 Vodafone gave me free with the contract lol
i'll try it out in the week I actually am missing the N80
Posted by Dogmann
@Miss UK
No need for all that hard work just follow this link and you can get all settings sent to your phone including E-Mail accounts as well if you want to here is the link.
