I dont know what you're talking about but on my N71 i've installed, uninstalled and then reinstalled many applications a number of times

@QVGA,
Well on many forums people with N73's, N93's and i think also N80'S have all reported these problems with apps installed into the memory card does happen if installed to phone memory.

My e61 has never given me that prob. Maybe firmware upgrade is needed.

can anyone help me with two things:
1. Software to cut 3gp videos

2. How to use number buttons in games
without having to press lowest left key on
e61

Any assistance would be great.

Hi there i am needing a bit of help in regard to setting up a hotmail mailbox on my N73. i went to the set wizard and it seemed to do the job but when i try to check my e-mail it does not work and says it cannot connect to server.
can anyone who has done this on the defalt e-mail app on the n73 please advise on how it is set up properly. many thanks

p.s. if any N73 owners are interested it is now possible to upgrade to N73 music edition firmware through NSU to find out more have a look on howard forums under series 60 thread and have a read through the relevent thread

Posted by Dogmann
@frank2345babies,
It is my understanding unless you have a premium Hotmail account it does not support POP3 and this why you can not use it. If you can be bothered to change your e-mail account to yahoo you will have proper push e-mail plus can upload pictures direct to albums a long with online diary and contacts all synced with the phone.

i think i might just do that. thanks for your help

Posted by DocDibble
How do you do it with yahoo? Cause I tried and it didn't work either. PLeaseb go through the steps

Posted by Dogmann
@DocDibble,
You have to be in in a country that Yahoo supports and your network needs to support it also for it to work.

@Leo_asb,
Unfortunately one of the things that appears to happen with the new S60 3rd Edition is once you remove an installed app you need to reformat before you can reinstall it. I don't know why this is but it does appear to be on all the phones and the only solution. As annoying as this is its not exactly the end of the world.

Im with the other guy, ive never had that problem. The only problem i do have is when i updated the firmware on my N93, my Java apps no longer functioned properly. I removed them and installed them again and yet it was the same. I think a format of the memory card is needed to fix this issue but i cant be bothered to go to the hassle of backing up my 2gb mini-sd.

Symbian apps work fine, before and after the update.

Hi there i have decided to use the g-mail option but when trying to register it says only a small number of people have been asked to trial this and it is not yet fully avaialable. can anyone inform me of how to get invited or whatever i would greatly appreciate it.

Posted by shug
It's a load of ******** really - a marketing ploy. You have to recieve an invite from anyone who has a gmail account - when you join you get 50 invites. If you pm me an e-mail adress I'll send you one. It's just a link to an accoumt-creating site.

Still looking for a good symbian. E50 joy died after some weeks of usage,so i stopped to go for e60,even i really wanted to get one.

does e60 and n73 got the same screen? imo the e60 is better ( has the same n80 ), n73 reminds me on e50 one. i do like that high res screen of n80

Posted by QVGA
E60 does have a better screen, but its quite small. N73 imo wins as far as screen is concerned. You cant go wrong with 2.4 inch!!

Posted by jack77777
My n73 audio Qaulity compared to my w850i sucks !

Posted by BobaFett
imo e60 isnt that samll and if it comes to the qulity i rather go for a smaller screen with better resolution instead of a big screen with less quality.

Posted by Dogmann
@jack7777
Could you possibly explain a bit better what exactly is meant by it sucks, as i owned a N73 and never had any problem with sound unless of course you have the gimmicky 3d sound on as yes that does suck IMO.

Strangely enough i have just gone from using a M600 with HBH-DS970 bluetooth headphones on which i really liked the sound and thought the Music Player was very good. Back to my N93 with the AD-46 with mic and 3.5mm headphones socket and am using a pair of Sony MDR-EX71SL which admittedly are a nice set of headphones with Superior Bass and what Sony call premium sound although these are over a year old and the difference is staggering i thought i wanted A2DP added to the N93 i now know i don't as the sound via a wired headset is much richer and more detailed unless of course it's just a much better Music Player that is makeing the difference with the same quality of encoded music.

Even the quality of the nokia N73 music edition isn't that good compared to the W810.

Posted by BobaFett
to be honest i dont really get that music edition on those n fones, nokia was never famous of sound quality, next to it a symbian fone is focused on more serious things like music imo

Posted by QVGA
You mean its "not" focused on music.

Posted by BobaFett
Mea culpa,+thx for the correction! Did any of u compared those music n series fones with the "generic" n models cos of music quality?

Hi all,
I have a news on the firmware update for the N93 Mike72 @My-Symbian posted the following update to the situation.

"N93 release V2.0 was first made available to the public on 16 October. We monitor update statistics and noticed an unacceptably high number of potential update failures being reported. This was also matched by a high number of posts in these boards about customers claiming to have problems and some ending up with devices which could not be switched on again.

These two factors meant our only option was to disable the product temporarily while investigations took place - that was on 3 November, and our investigations are still continuing. There are technical differences between updating using Nokia Software Updater and updating in a service point - the only problems are updating with NSU.

We are studying ways to rectify the situation in a satisfactory manner, and hope to be able to offer software updates for the N93 in early 2007.

We apologize for the inconvenience, frustration and disappointment caused. "

On reading this news i phoned my local Service Centre and at last they have the update for me so off my phone goes tomorrow and Yes i am excited and looking forward to the improvements especially the camera app not reverting to the front camera when you swivel the screen round. Will report further findings later along with a review of this awesome smart phone.

good luck with it seems u are really satisfied with n93

Posted by Dogmann
@Boba,
and then some seeing as i have only been using Nokia's apart from the odd phone in the past since June i am well and truly converted. IMO the N93 is the best smart phone i have ever used bar none and the M600 i had can't even get near. I love it's build quality and the way it handles everything i have asked of it, it may not have a touchscreen but being able to see the screen clearly in virtually all conditions more than makes up for it IMO.

Now i will try and put together a users review shortly does anyone think i should just post it in here or does it deserve it's very own thread?

Marc

Posted by BobaFett
do it here, its the place for a review imo are now a days more apps to get for the new os? when i used last e50, there wasnt very much ones

Posted by Dogmann
Hi all,
Just a quick update prior to my review, having collected my N93 with the new Firmware all i can say is start up up time has really been cut. Seeing as this is a smart phone i can't believe just how quick it is 28secs including entering my pin to to fully on. Also opening apps is now virtually instantaneous even with Tom Tom the globe spins for such a short time if you blink you'll miss it. The Camera problem when turning the screen to Landscape mode is now fixed no more front Camera activation and when going to Landscape from flip open mode there is no delay at all.

Marc

Posted by Prom1
@Dogmann, I'm not sure what you mean by 28sec's to full power on for boot up of your N93? Can you clarify that when you power it on from say after 5mins of being fully powered off, then powering it on from when you press the power button that it turns on and gets signal strength & network connectivity (GSM/3G - 3G I'm expecting takes roughly 30secs AFTER GSM is acquired)?! Thanks.

> So nobody here in this thread in the North America continent considering the Nokia N75 or in Europe for the 6290 flip phones (S60)?

Just in case you're all not aware of those models....

N75

6290
http://www.allaboutsymbian.co[....]es/item/Nokia_6290_Preview.php

Oddly enough, Nokia calls the N75 a multimedia computer, yet it doesnt have a FLash for its 2MP Camera. ??

Posted by BobaFett
i am very disapponited that 6290 has got the same fw like 6280, i dont like tht fw, especially cos u cannot browse the internet in full screen, only with opera mini

Posted by Prom1
uh, Boba if by FW you mean FirmWare.

The 6290 is an S603rd Edition FP1 device while the 6280 is not.

Here take a look.

Oh and check this

Primary Screen Display
Resolution: 240 x 320
Color Depth: 24 bit

but take alook at the menu, it looks the same as in 6280 for example.

Posted by Dogmann
@Prom1

OK i just disabled Sim Pin code request on turning on a re-timed it, from being totally off press power button to past shaking hands and actually able to go to apps or make a call is now 22 seconds. As i said before opening any app is instantaneous no delay or lag at all this phone is really fast now.

Do u think that 6290 will be a hit? Didnt see many n71 owners

This message was posted from a R520m

Posted by nettl
BobaFett - the 6290 is an S60 (with FP1) device - only just because the menu looks similar, it's a far cry from the 6280's S40 (without FP), not the same in ANY way.

Posted by BobaFett
Thx,good to know! It do anoyed me to use opera usually. Did any of u got the chance to test n95 on its own?

From the link I posted....
http://www.allaboutsymbian.co[....]es/item/Nokia_6290_Preview.php

of the preview for the 6290; ALL new S60 devices (Eseries, N series, etc) have a GUI layout that resembles the S40 phones. I cant stand it either thats why with considering this phone, or the N75 as competitors to the upcoming HTC Cavelier.

Posted by nettl
Actually, S40 v3 was designed to resemble S60, not the other way round

The thing I dislike most about S40 is the ugly looking "active standby" & of course its limitations...

i'm a n71 owner

Posted by BobaFett
yeah, i do know that but u are the only one actually i ever heard of, even "live" i dint see many n71

Posted by jj03
We have the n71 (demo) in store at premier store cpw in manchester. can't say i'm that impressed with it.

Posted by BobaFett
the n71 isnt that bad, but on some way it was weird to have aclamshall symbian, maybe its me, that i didnt got used to it

Posted by jj03
your right..although the 6260 sold well..that was a flip s60 too..

Posted by BobaFett
i do miss in the latest symbians the 6680 keypad and joypad solution, it was really good made quality. n70 was really disappopinted

Posted by QVGA
Yes, i've also never seen anyone with a N71.

I guess the reason is that there are some design flaws with it, first the click sounds when opening the flip, although they are there for a reason, it wasnt needed. And the screen scratching from the keypad which can be solved by using a protector.
But its also the cheapest phone with 2.4'' QVGA screen and 3rd edition symbian.

Posted by BobaFett
i do liked that click sound, cos it reflects quality, next to it the display had 2 positions, both fixed

Does anyone know if the Nokia N73 can use MP3 files as the alarm signal?

Thanks a lot. I might get this over the holidays to replace my K800i... still thinking about it.

One thing that really bothers me is, the camera colors ... is it true that the colors are a bit saturated compared to other 3.2mpx phones?

Posted by BobaFett
N73 offers u way more possibilities then k8, simply of the fact cos its a symbian
