my N93 doesn't seem to have it

Posted by etaab
Neither does mine, which is a shame.

Posted by QVGA
I wonder why its included in the help, but not in the phone. I have a feeling, looking at the pics of N75, it'll come with these visualisations.

Posted by Dogmann
Hi all,
For all you N93 owners i can confirm you can now update to the latest firmware via the Nokia Software Updater. There is a new version that will download first the actual update took about 15 mins to complete i am now running
V11.0.034
17-08-06
RM-55
N93 (52.01)

Bit early to report any changes other than Handy Taskman is now showing 24mb Ram free as opposed to around 15mb.

Thanks for the heads up, ive just updated mine.

Apart from the obvious annoyance of having to reinstall some software that wouldnt backup to the minisd, the phone seems fine. Its crashed once though, which it rarely did on the older firmware, but the phone does appear to have more memory since i can open more apps now including the graphic intensive gallery.

am gonna update my n73 as soon as firmware is out for it

WARNING!!!! i downloaded a ring tone to my brand new N80 n stored it on my mem card az u do, not knowing it waz corrupted it caused my ph 2 crash n main screen to flicker,it waz swapped 4 a new 1 and my corrupt card waz put in the new phone making this do the same thing, after 4 N80"s it was swapped 4 a k800i, point being!!!!!! idunno, australian phone software iz POO!!!!!

Posted by Dogmann
Hi ryansprague,
You explain very well that you had a corrupted ring tone yet tried 4 phones with it and still blame the phone that makes no sense but enjoy your K800.

For those of you with S60 3rd Edition phones i can confirm that Tom Tom 6 is now avaliable and works really well well it does on my N93.

Marc

Posted by ryansprague
@dogmn i failed 2 explain also i changed da card on the 4th nokia and lo n behold un corrupted card meant phone waz fine so yes i do blame the phone 4 having shitty security certificates, az i waz put of by this that is why the last one i swapped, i would of done anything to get out of the N80, and yes thanx enjoying my k800 x 10, its a shame this iz my first az i woudnt of bothered wit my 6230i,6670,6680 N70,N80,.

how long time does it take in average to release a new fw foe a symbian? my e50 goes sometimes crazy

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Boba,
Longer than one would like but as guide the N93 was announced end of August for early September and only became available a short while ago, but you never know you may be lucky.

Marc

hi

imo its a crappy fw what causes that the fone starts to "live on its own", have to turn off, then all fine again. btw did any of u upgraded the fone with the nokia online service?

Im still pretty happy with my Nokia 6680.With Power Mp3,a 1Gb memory card,a good set of headphones using the headphone adapter and a good 3G coverage here in Cape Town, its still a pretty decent phone even though its pretty outdated.Got my eye on the Sony P990I as my 2nd phone.Always had a soft spot 4 that P-series

Posted by jack77777
i think you'd be more happier with the n73 than p990i if you liked you 6680

Thanks Jack for your advice.Checked out the N73 and its main feature is the 3.2mp camera which as far as I can see is getting rave reviews.I should be wanting the N91 because Im a avid music lover but for some obscure reason I cant think of anything other than the P990.Got two weeks to decide.Think I'll research the N-series one more time but I think in vain.Pretty much have made up my mind.

For a near 550$ phone, nokia should have given QVGA screen.

Hi I bought N91 a month ago it was awesome.
but now I am in serious trouble when i try to connect the phone in "Mass Storage" Mode it display a warning "Unable to connect because the Hard Drive is in Use by another application".
When I tried to format the Drive using default Hard Drive Manager it displyed "Hard Disk not available", it correctly showed the drive info but refused to format.
I closed all apps, restarted the phone several times, used Application Managers, Formated(Hard/Soft) the phone memory but no luck.
My phone has latest firmware ver 2.10.013.

Now I dont have any other option left to format the Hard Disk.....!
Is there any 3rd party app that can format or some "CODE" (like *#7370#
for the phone memory) or any other solution you suggest?
Thanks.

Hi all and especially fellow N93 users,

I found this early today it appears a new firmware is going to be avaliable soon below are the specs for the improvements. It is apparently already available @ Nokia Service Centres and should appear on the NUS in the next couple of days. Let just hope it is available quicker than the last announced update that took over a month to actually appear.

- CellMo baseline update
- Improvements to Auto power off, reset cases

player
- A few Applications fixed for mode switch errors

- Web (OSS Browser) , moved Office folder in 11.0.034
- Search

music clip change to save battery power.
- Support for Display Headset HS-69 is added.
- Max no of Sent SMSs saved : change the maximum number of SMSs
saved in "Sent" folder to 100. (for PRC variant only)
- Camera mode switching: Modes spec updated so that when changing from
imaging mode to any other mode with camera still active the UI returns to
idle screen rather than activate the sub-camera.
- UMTS in Network mode selection: UMTS is selectable in the UI for Network
mode selection. Tools/Settings/Network mode/ Dual, GSM, UMTS. (not in
PRC variant)
- PRC Default Boot Up Language: Default UI Language at 1st boot up is

-Also I heard that the bug that made the N93 unable to press to buttons has been corrected....it seems.
-Also rumors of FOTA being or will be enabled on N93?

is there any application that can allow me to use my camera flash as a flash light?

Posted by leo_asb
i just bought an N91 about 2 weeks ago for my K750i replacement.

at first, i really love the phone for it's kinda unique for me with all the hard drive, etc.

But after some time, the operating system gets very slow. my K750i works much faster!

it always hangs and i have to restart it.

it also says 'file corrupted' everytime I delete a file although after I restarted the phone, the file magically disappears.

how magical! hehehe...

the N91 2mpix camera is very bad! I could rate it a 3 out of 10 although it does seldom takes good pictures outdoors. very bad pic quality indoors.

ohh my!!!!

i'm now REGRETING why I bought this phone.

in the first place, I was considering the K800i in my purchase decision but i still went towards the N91.

Sony Ericsson (for me) is still the best towards mobile photography.

Posted by leo_asb
by the way, N91 is my first Nokia Symbian phone.

majority of my phones are from Sony Ericsson (from T68i up to K750i).

my purchase of the N91 is an experiment if I really do like a Nokia phone since I never owned a nokia symbian phone before.

I now realize that I am really a Sony Ericsson fan.

my purchase of the N91 led me closer to Sony Ericsson and farther away from Nokia.

So, im just gonna stick with my N91 for a while and maybe later (if the budget permits, hehehe...) upgrade it to a Sony Ericsson K800i or P990i.

Cheers Sony Ericsson!!! You really are producing good quality phones.

Posted by Dogmann
Hi leo_asb

Sorry for your experience but to put it simply you just bought the wrong phone for you. The N91 is a music phone people buy it for the large hard drive (The first phone to market with one) so you are an early adopter of new tecnology always risky i'm afarid.

Your other choice is a camera phone and is in no way comparable if you have owned and loved SE's really can't see why you bought the N91. I would suggest you search the forum and places on the web to see if your nextt phone choice does what you want or if has any faults first.

Marc

Posted by jj03
lol@upgrade.. you mean downgrade..if you've never really used symbian, and wouldnt use it as anything other than a normal phone, your better off with something simple like the k800 anyway.

Posted by leo_asb
@jj03: ya! you're right. better stick to less sophisticated phones. hehehe...

what I really want in a phone is a decent camera & a decent mp3 player. camera in the level of K750 is enough for me as long as the phone plays mp3s.

Posted by QVGA
N71 and N73 are 3rd edition phones with excellent MP3 players. And they're cheaper than the rest of the 3rd edition S60s.

hi there i was just wondering if anyone knows of an alarm application for the n73 which would work like the recurrent alarm of sony ericsson and which has a snooze function. any help would be much appreciated

Posted by shug
Have a look at HandyClock. It has timers, stopwatch, world times etc as well as recurrent alarm.
Symbian OS-9.1 Apps - iPmart® forum

Posted by Prom1
Shug, such a great site like that should be kept underground else it'll die very soon. So just keep it on the PM low (Private Message Low).

> Anyone looking forward to Cingular's release of the N75?! I just LOVE the styling of that phone. Why oh WHY not give it auto focus?! STupid Cingular! and Dumbnuts Nokia for NOT just putting it in there. Just because its slim like a Razr doesnt mean its gotta me crappy in photo quality like one.

Either way I love its styling ... by far the BEST flip phone Nokia has ever made this side of S60 - since the 6260!

No wifi .... hmm I just might , I said MIGHT get one to play with.

thanks4the info on handy clock will have a look. my nxt problem is with my SD card. the n73 registers the card but soon after message saying that i should go to "remove card" before taking out the card appears and the n73 shows no sign of containing the card anyway is this common. and do you think it sounds like a handset or card fault? any help is appreciated thanks

Hi Frank2345babies,
Is the card branded or unbranded? as some of the cheaper cards around can cause problems. If it is a branded card copy what you want to keep to a folder on your PC and try reformatting the card in the phone. I bought a no name 2gb Mini SD card that i put in my phone formatted and afterwards the the card was not seen in not only my phone but also a N73 sent it back and had it replaced with a Sandisk card and no problems. Unfortunately it does seem there are a lot of dodgy cards around in all formats some times a bargain really isn't.

Marc

Posted by frank2345babies
i have a suspicion that it is a sandisk copy. i have spoke to the seller on ebay and he has agreed to replace it. which means i am now going to have to pay to send the card back to hong kong and wait at least 2 weeks or whatever for a replacement which means i cant get full usage of my N73 till at least then. i am gutted

Hey guys, I'm a SE fan just trying my hand at nokia for first. Currently using E61 (after w800i). I must say e61 is if not the best, then one of the best symbian fones available and cheap too. No major probs with the fone after 2 months. But since a week ago noted message on screen intermittently after calls or before and after texts. It states "NOT ENOUGH MEMORY FOR SIMS MESSAGES, PLEASE DELETE DATA". Does anyone know how to resolve this please. Phone still runs smoothly and I'm using the updated firmware.

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Doc Dibble,
Well obviously my first question is how many sms messages and contacts do you have saved on your Sim card? If it is loads than you are running out of space as Sim cards are quite limited in storage at the moment until the next generation of Sims start appearing with 1gb of memory on them. so this would explain the reason if not I've no idea what is happening

Marc

Posted by DocDibble
Hey Dogmann, thanks. Made me think. I solved the prob. Didnt know how to check sim messages on e61 but found out and they were 30 on it. After deleting these, no more prob. Great, now I have a good e61. Does anyone know how to get radio on this thing? I'm in Jamaica W.I.. Also how can I view videos in web browser? PLease all help if you can. This is my first nokia. Got it cause cant afford p990 yet. But really I love it.

Posted by jj03
lol.. i wouldn't bother with the p990..it's old hat (pretty much) already...

Posted by DocDibble
Does anyone know of software to install on phone that allows u to edit videos like cut them up (divide like half our 3gp video into segments for e.g.)?

Posted by fullforce
Hi!
Does any body know if there is a software that enables you to brows through files (for example music files) on your computer with bluetooth via your phone and even download them to your phone?

I tried the "bluetooth control" software and it was good but i doesn´t quit do the job. As i mentioned earlier i also want to download file from the computer to my phone.

Posted by leo_asb
just wondering...

what do you think is wrong with my N91 when everytime I install apps, the word 'unable to install' pops up eventhough those apps were once installed successfully on my phone?

is this some kind of defect that i need to bring my phone to a nokia service center? my phone is under 1 yr warranty though & it's still 27 days old.

Posted by Dogmann
@Leo_asb,
Unfortunately one of the things that appears to happen with the new S60 3rd Edition is once you remove an installed app you need to reformat before you can reinstall it. I don't know why this is but it does appear to be on all the phones and the only solution. As annoying as this is its not exactly the end of the world.

Marc
