Yep they are, soon we won't need PCs unless you're a heavy gamer
As far as i know the built-in browser on the newer S60 phones like N95-8gb and N81 they don't support Wap,just XHTML AND HTML.

My 3.5G keeps fluctuating in my area too,
I thought it was down to the bad weather latel

some calls though are terrible recentley I think Vodafone need to check there transmitters round here, mindyou im quite far out from the city

Would explain why no WAP was visible then while browsing this place then lol..

is it true that the N96 wil have the same battery in it as the N95-1?
bit crap aye?

imo any kind of smartfone looks ok in black or maybe silver ( but the last one looks cheap for me ) it has to be a dark colour. or maybe the beige, as for e61.

Posted by GUCCI.011
@ Miss UK
i also thought it was bad weather on my side, but our house is in a Valley where there's a lot of development and network traffic now, i also think Vodacom (Vodafone of SA) needs to check their transmitters here, on some days they can be awfuly slow!
Yep N96 will come with that weak N95-1 battery, yet the N78 is going to come with the 1200mAh N95-2 battery lol

I'm about to buy this phone in maybe a week or so. I'm going to buy the N95 8GB made in Finland - US Version. I live in Latinamerica. My question is : I plan to move to Europe later on this year. So, will this N95 8GB - US Version work properly in Europe????

Also, when installing applications to the N95 8GB what does it mean when an Application is Signed or Unsigned??????

Sorry about these questions, they may be obvious to you but I'm kinda new in Nokia. I've been a SE user since my 1st cell & in my country ppl doesn´t buy Nokia, so...

Thanks in Advance !!!

Gucci, it's prob gottabe exspected..
nothing can be 100% for ages lol

to say we exspect coverage all the time would be ludacris afterall but still hail yeah sort it out Voda whatever

I find it quite amusing that Nokia are sticking the old battery in that thing,
I guess alot of angry customers will be going ape cos the phone doesn't last too long? mindyou it's bout to outkill the N80

Hi all,

I recently got myself a 6110 Navigator as i was interested in trying Symbian.
I have a question regarding system volume and muting.

When i set the phone to 'silent', as you would expect it does not ring for calls, SMS etc. It should not make any noise at all if silent. Yet it does and it is really annoying me.

You see when at work I place it on 'silent' because it is meant to be off.
Sometimes, instead of working I like to play a quick game but its games seem to ignore the 'silent' mode. The speakers on this model are VERY LOUD!
The only way to mute the sound is if the game has its own volume control which some do not. I have been caught out a few times recently, a bit embarressing.

I would like to know if there is any program available that can fully mute all sounds from S60 handsets, or allow varying levels of volume for program, systems sounds, alerts etc.? I have not been able to find any.

I have came from Windows Mobile which is infinately more configurable compaired to S60 from what I can tell. I would expect a bit more user control from a 'smartphone'.

Thanks for any help.

twerg. Was the handset a Vodafone uk 1? I do recall theres been a few probs with it if u have it

Posted by GUCCI.011
Miss UK
True lol
Have you read its review at Mobile-Review? They claim the battery to be nearly on par with N95-2 battery can you believe!

Posted by bavlondon2
Its due to its processor that it can last longer.

Posted by GUCCI.011
But i thought ARM9 CPUs wern't as power efficient as ARM11?

Posted by BobaFett
seems the n95-2 batt gets better and better with the time. have to admit, with heavy usage it runs 24 h, not that bad actually. lets say some calls, 2 h wifi, 3-4 h music

Posted by bavlondon2
Yeah but it still has terrible build quality issues.

Posted by twerg
Miss UK,

No it is not a UK model, it is Australian.

I do know of a glitch/bug that effects UK ones in that you load the maps for UK and/or Ireland and it crashes. I only have Aus maps so all good there.

The problem is with silent mode, do you know if this happens on other S60 handsets? Mine is 3rd Edition FP1. Does the same happen on other versions?

It is not the latest firmware, I might get that upgraded soon but I have a feeling that when playing games it runs seperately to the phone? and system volume. Seems to ignore 'silent'.

Pointless having a silent mode if it still makes noise... At least it wont ring, that works.

Thanks

What do you need for the GPS to work? I just purchased an N958gb for NAM.. do you need 3g to use GPS?

Posted by BobaFett

My pal showed me a review of it of some site,
they say it doesn't last longer after the N95-2 runs out

they also say it's not much of a big improvement over the N95-2,
Nokia have just added little things

Twerg, ahh sorry I didn't see your location on your profile I was using the phone to reply

as you said you haven't updated it then I think it's worth you doing it for a try, if it still happens then just get it fixed from your provider

Boba, yepp you correct the phone seems to last longer everytime you charge it, talking of charging it... my mate noticed a glitch on mine after a hour, the battery bars stopped moving, he then switched the power on and off but it failed to charge, so I turned the phone on and then tried to charge it and it did fine bit odd mindyou I think the chargers are pretty lousey anyway they can break dead easy!

I assumed my chargers prob faulty and if it breaks Nokia better send me a new one

Posted by BobaFett
i use still the older charger, not the travel come it came with.

whats your standby time atm?

Posted by Miss UK
the charger is cheap and crap boba,
it's like a piece of string for the flex cable

My phones lasts about a week to 4 days without a charge Boba

Posted by BobaFett
wow, then u dont use it that often... my lasts 24 h, but i almost kill the fone with my way of usage

Posted by Miss UK
it depends how you use and abuse them,
it surfs via wifi for hours, and calls say
30mins don't really loose much bar

Posted by BobaFett
yeah, but then rapidly goes off ( bars ).... cant understand why nokia cant manage this bug, its given by ages. in the e series there isnt like this ( at lesat when the batt wanna be feedede, the fone still runs almost half day )

what apps u have installed miss?

Posted by Miss UK
it does rapidley loose bars..
like surfing wi-fi for 2 hours it wil go down a few when you switch the phone off and use it the next day lol

ive installed Yahoo Go, Internet radio and Virtual radio Boba

Posted by BobaFett
virtual radio? but that a built in app...

imo the normal radio is still crap, like it was in the past aswell. not the best rec quality

Posted by Miss UK
Visual Radio Boba

Posted by BobaFett
u wrote virtual first

anyway, did u already make some nice pix? or video?

have to admit, the keys are pretty good ( the ones on the slider ) i like hard keys. slider has a little play, but that normal

Posted by Miss UK
I get confused over them Boba,
the installed radio is crap thats on the phone!

I took pics of my Niece with the phone I did post one here at the forum already

Posted by BobaFett
how are u using the intenet radio? how man mb u have in 1 month? or u use it with wifi?

Posted by Miss UK
Sorry Boba, the internet connection was [playing up this morning]
btw I use Wi-Fi for listening to that works out priceless

Posted by BobaFett
opera mini is damn slow, donnow why... if ui save a site like bookmark or exit ( even when it starts ) any experiences?

Posted by Miss UK
im happy so far with Mini Map boba

Posted by BobaFett
i dont like that. i prefer to see the whole page, without going left or right... the built in ie is really amazing, but that mini map drives me nuts...

Posted by GUCCI.011
Im using Opera Mini3.1 fullscreen, works great, i also hate Mini Map, i turned it off in the Safari Browser as well.
Ive got Opera Mini4 as well, but it messes up the images even in High Quality setting.

Posted by BobaFett
fone started to act weird. if i wanna connect n95 8gb to pc with "data tarnsfer" it says : unable to activate data transfer mode. mass memory is in use by another application..

any ideas? never did it before. if i turn off / on the fone, then all fine. crap... mem crad is far better then this built in memory imo

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Boba

Where do you install your apps? as if it is on the Mass memory that may be what is causing your problem in the couple of months i had mine i never got any warning messages but then i always install all my apps to the phone memory.

The only problem/bug i ever had was not being able to delete a Album folder although i could delete all the tracks inside it. The only other annoyance was the slow transfer speed to and from the Mass Memory although that did improve with a new firmware it was still much slower than a memory card in a card reader.

Marc

Boba how about a master reset

ive noticed that my SMS tone has got louder today when it it was quite low

Grrr here comes the bugs boba

Posted by BobaFett
yes, i install all my apps on the mass memory

Posted by Adz21
@ bobba

funny that's happened to you,my brother had the same problem yesterday! have you got taskman installed? if so is it on your mass memory? that will cause the conflict! make sure it is closed! if not delete any app saved to your mass memory and save them to your internal to stop this happening. hope this helps

Posted by BobaFett
i dont use taskman... i had earlier apps installed on the mess memory and didnthad this bug. maybe its tomtom? had fring etc but never made this shit before

Posted by Adz21
make sure all apps are closed before you connect. i recommend taskman, but install on internal

Posted by BobaFett
thx, but i dont like taskman, it drove me nuts, i prefer grid view and not really interested in ram, memory etc

have to figure out which app that is... fring, smart movie etc cannot cause it. maybe zip sms, tomtom, messenger...

Posted by Adz21
i only use it to shut open programs down! i don't care about ram and all that rubbish either. it's really good for that! i would imagine tom tom would cause a conflict. check out your most recent install, most likely caused it

Posted by BobaFett
i del now everything and install it again. actaully i check after deleting now one by one if i have mass mem access on pc, but i still get the same message. it wasnt tomtom btw.

Posted by Adz21
have you got the media player playing? a film or mp3, that could be playing from mass memory? that could also cause the conflict

Posted by BobaFett
got it. it was the messenger.... thx for the comments all fine again. seems that has to be stored on the fone.

@marc special thx

Posted by Adz21
glad you got it sorted
