Hi i hope people can help me at this forum as people on 02 customer services were not!
I am trying to find an 02 3G pay as you go sim card for my new k800i which is sim free - i am currently using an 02 2g inside
I rang 02 and asked them where i could find 1 and they said i could only get a 3g pay and go sim if i bought a phone from the 02 shop!
Is there any sites or shops that sell these sims without the actual phone as i would b happy if there were!
Cheers.

Currenlty the only networks that will allow you to purchase 3g simcard are Orange from Orange Shops only Costing £5

Virgin Sim Cars are already USIM ( have been for a few years ) they cost between £5 - £10

and 3

From Them selves, superdrug and a few other shops, I think they are £10.

If you go into your local 02 store they may be able to help you, but i dont think they currenlty do them.

Sorry I cant be more help.

Im going my self to the 02 shop tomorrow, If you like i will ask and post my findings on here for you.

Let me know.

I was told in an o2 shop that you have to buy a o2 3G handset to get a USIM, I knew this was rubbish so rang o2 up and they confirmed it was untrue and sent out a USIM to me free of charge transfereing my 2.5G sims number to the new one on pay as you go.

I made complaint against the sales person in that o2 store.

Ring them up again, its rubbish that you "must" buy a 3G phone from them to get a USIM.

By the way, orange offer a very similar plan like o2 onlines pay as you go so they want to be carefull talking out of there arse as it will lose them customers.

No problems and always glad to help.

Its about time that the rest of the networks started selling the sim cards.

All the networks are crying out that 3g is costing too much money, but if they dont sell the simcards then how can they get the revenue back!!

makes common sense in my world, but then eveything makes sensein my world !! We would be on 4g by now. lol

Let me know what they said, they should send you one without any hassle. You can get you're 2.5G number on pay as you go transfered to the new pay as you go USIM too.

its good news! they are going to send me a 3G sim card on 02 with my old number to me in the next 3-5 working days! wicked!
They really have to starts getting their facts right over there!
Thanks for giving me the info Toney_Ericsson and thanks for offering to check it out darrengf
Cheers,
A Happy Der!

Nice one, at least thats sorted now. They said the same to me 3-5 working days. The way I did it was to get the USIM sent to me and then rang them back up when I had the USIM. Another bit of info is it only takes an hour'ish for you're old sim to stop working and transfered to the new USIM.

A few people on here will tell you that as thats how it was for them including me. Its not a "day" or anything like that which they might tell you. It takes an hour when someone actions it at o2, not any longer than that.

thx 4 the info ill bear tht in mind

Ok I did some research today with visiting a few shops.

I called in to 2 (O2) shops and my findings was the same.

I explained to them that i had just bought a new Sim Free 3g phone and my o2 card was a old 2g one. Can i updated the sim card or even purchase a new one.

In both shops the reply was no, We dont sell the 3g sim cards and can only give you one if you purchased a phone from us.

1 shop infact told me that currenlty o2 3g was only for the contract customers and not PAYG. However after me putting her correct and she did some more checking did appologise but still said that they dont have any o2 3g sim cards for sale.

I'm sorry that i cantbe more of a help, I think now you may have to speak to customer care and start to shout a little.

I did also go into Orange and Virgin.

Orange are doing them for £5

and Virgin are doing the Sims for £10 with £5 of calling credit.

However Virgin have been issueing USIM cards for over 3 years now, So all you need to do is ring virgin to activate video calling feature which takes just 20 mins to do so.

This also puts a quash to some theories that USIM card will not work in Normal 2G Phones.

I hope this helps

I just rang o2 asking for a 3G SSIM Pay as you go for my M600 and they said they don't have any pay as you go ones?

they only supply them with the 3g phones not on their own. How did u guys get urs? :S

They said if i can get a hold of any o2 3g sim pay as u go i can transfer the number but they don't send any out

Posted by DKCoo
omg wat liars! i just got mine in the post from them today with my number transfered ovr for free!
have a go at them and mention who is boss!
(you by the way!)

Der

Posted by Sexygenius
Yeah i'll do so in the morning. that was the second time i rang today. first time they said they don't do 3g sims for o2 pay as u go

Posted by Toney_Ericsson
This is bad, why are o2 lying to customers about this??????

Is it right that with other networks you dont have to get a "special" sim to use there 3G services? if so would that be a reason why o2 are lying to customers because loads of people are requesting one?

Tell them so why have so many o2 pay as you go customers got USIMS sent to them if they dont do it. What liars!

I know there customer service work shifts like an 8am-5pm and a 5pm-10pm so you could try speaking to a different person later in the day if you're that desperate to get an o2 USIM sim.

You aint missing much though as I cant tell any different in data speeds with this USIM compared to normal GPRS and what content have o2 got? bugger all. At least with Orange and Vodafone you can get Sky T.V on you're 3G handset if you so wished, better 3G coverage with both compared to o2 apparently.

This is something i'm looking into actually as o2 is rubbish, the only thing holding me is the freebie texts otherwise I would'nt hesitate on giving o2 the finger

I got a Pay+go 3g sim for free from o2 a few months ago.

I just rang up and they send you an unregistered 3g sim. Then when it turns up you just ring the number thats on the sim card to register it and they then transfer your old number/pay+go setup to the new imei number

they wouldnt send one at first as they said the o2 prepay sims are not ready yet but after giving them some stick "ive been with you x years etc etc" the guy on the phone spoke to their boss and they then agreed to send out the blank sim

voila

most of the o2 staff dont know about it this because there are hardly any people that ask to do it and they don't sell blank sims so you can't blame them really.

However i found it pretty useless as there is only o2 3g coverage in cities around here so it was no use to me, i since got a three(3) sim and theres pretty much covereage everywhere around here and i live in the middle of nowhere

I can Confirm that There are different type of sim cards.

You have a USIM and a SIM. The USIM is for the UTMS (3G) Network and the SIM is for the 2G Network.

However Virgin have been seeling USIM Card for the last 4 or more years but have never told any body of this, This will then enable them just to switch the 3g function on to which i can confrim they have and done.

The other networks have only issued 2g sims out to all there customers and if you wish to migrate you do have to purchased a 3g sim card.

Orange have very good 3g coverage, I have been able to use it in the country sides, towns and a few other places. I dont use Voda, but when i have a quick look again it seems to be 80% there showing on the phone. I can confrim the o2's coverage is very poor at the moment. However his should get better by the end of september. T-Mobiles 3g coverage seems to fair well too again about 80% of the time it shows on my phone. Threes coverage is widespread, but patchy. I have never use the Three network but i know a couple of my mates do and they seem to be ok. However it still doesnt transfer calls over when swapping from 3g to 2g (o2) but dont get as many problems when try to make calls, No longer get the unable to connect tone or network busy error showing on the display much.

Hope this helps.

Any other questions please ask

with o2 its a bit of a grey area as only now their are 3g PAYG handsets coming out, you cant pick the 3g sims up at the shops atm so only customer support will be able to sort you out, if they tell you its not possible tell them to naff off and ask to speak to al ine manager, they do exist on payg, they are done so its unfortunatley a case of getting through to someone who knows what they are on about

Faster download and browsing speeds for a start, also support for video calling. But main advantage is the faster speeds while browsing and downloading pages.

Just ordered 2 for replacements so it does work. Glad I found this thread as I was serioulsy considering a switch to Voda for video calling.

Does anyone know wether the free 300txts are carried to the 3g sim?

hey guys

- i had the same problem, i bought my k800i and i know it is a 3g phone hence the video calling on it. i tryed it wen i got home and couldnt get it to work. after about a day of pondering i rand up o2 customer careline (as im on o2 uk) and asked them how to work it.

- i explaned that when i bought the phone they gave me a sim card with it and i had to top it up with ten pounds as well, the women on the other end of the phone was so help ful, she did a check on wat sim card i had.

- she told me that it wasnt the right sim card and asked me if i wanted them to send me a p&g 3g sim out to me and they did free of charge.

so to the conclution, y the looks of things the comunication from the head office of o2 and the lil shops is crap. if u ring up yr local o2 shop they should tell u that u can get one free of charge from customer care.

Do not need to talk to local o2 shop....
I have rang o2 customer services.... on 08705678678 chose option 4 which takes you to the Retention team...
Explained to them I want a 3G sim to transfer my old sim number to it...they are sending one out... will take 3 to 5 working days... then I have to ring them back on receipt of the new 3G so they can transfer my old number to it..

No problems with them... and straight forward...

Hope this helps...

I just phoned o2 select customer care up and told them i'd bought a k800 on pay and go but wanted to use it with my pay monthly sim. They wouldn't update the 3g P&G sim i currently have but are sending out a pay monthly 3g sim to replace my 2g one at no charge :-)

This message was posted from a K800i

I did the ring to O2 and asked for 3G pay and Go SIm... They said no problem and One arrived in Post... moved the number across and all went ok.
BUT.....being on O2 3G pay and Go is a right pain, in that you can't get the 'mobile services' bits of O2 connection and hence stuck on a WAp data connection....This has some serious drawbacks as the bits I want to use won't work.

In Summary changing to 3G Sim was a waste of time.... time to change to different supplier I think.
