hey, i noticed in my k800i that when u shoot outdoors, camera flash doesnot work but when u shoot indoors, then flash works. Any idea where is the flash light sensor present in the fone..?

Posted by Evilsummer
It probably uses the main camera sensor and just measures the light levels...

i taught it was having a sensor in the back speaker or something/....

It should work in the same way like the other k and w models, or in nokia fones

actually it has an IR sensor, it's right next to the flash. it measures light for the flash, if you can't see it try looking at it from a digital camera or maybe in a mirror (camera sensors see IR light)

I think it's here:

My MXE-60 sensor was right here

so sensor for K800i would be the same like the pic posted by shaliron..

hmmm....looks interesting....

check this out, this is what I meant.

Both of those are sensors i think. The infrared measures distance and the other one measures lighting levels. Atleast that's what i've been told.

I would have to disagree.

I believe that red/orange light is merely a coloured LED used to guage focus in low-light conditions and not an infra-red sensor.
It cannot be used to determine whether the flash should fire as the light will only come on as part of the flash.

As has previously been stated, I believe the small dot below the self-portrate mirror is the light sensor. I certainly can't see it serving any other purpose.

The red LED light is an AF (auto focusing) assist lamp to help the camera focus in low light conditions by putting light over the illuminated object to focus. And it's red so that it doesn't affect the light that the camera might sense (just like human, when our eyes can see red light without it making our pupils smaller).
And infra red focusing is invisible to the naked eye.

i agree with shaliron.. where you can only see the red LED lit up when taking a shot in dark enviroment .. same with the K750i where you plug in the MXE-60, the white LED act just the same as the red LED on K800i

hmmm...i chked tht little dot at the side of the camera....it is the sensor...chk it by keeping a piece of paper on it when shooting outdoor

So I guess there's a way to force the flash on then.

Buddy, i dont lie ....
U dont need to just go out in sun and chk....
U myt hav a lamp in ur home???
Just take ur fone near it.....open the lid....start the camera....now chk the light by switching the lamp OFF....you will see the flash will lyt up....Now switch ON the lamp....and press the camera button placing the lens ryt in front of the lamp....u will see the flash wont start...now while presing the camera foto shooter button.....put ur finger ryt infront f tht little dot in such a way tht no lit reaches it...and now chk....it wont start.....
