Survey: Would you buy a Microsoft powered phone?

There are lots of potential "con"s:
- Blue screen
- Hanging problems like every other Windows CE device
- Power consumption
- Bluetooth support
And some "pro"s:
- MSN messenger would top of my list
- Email access
- HTML browsing (on a very small screen)
- No shortage of Service Packs

So would you spend your own money on a MS phone?

Posted by ppcrockar
Never! M$ has problems with stability and the worst thing is their softwares security flaws, I can only imagine what problems this could lead to on mobile phones. And we shouldn't forget how memory and cpu hungry their OS's are....

Posted by jamojdm
I would buy a MS phone, it cant be much worse than the SW Ericsson released the T68 with!!!!!!!!

Posted by Epedemic
i am buying it

Posted by Vertical Mind
All depends on services, support one so on. Lets say I would not be the first one to buy it. I have owned 2 Symbian devices before and have the greatest faith in there SW.

Not in this life, never! Once sales level off or drop, they will abandon the platform! Messenger, icq on a phone 2 talk 2 some1! Just call them. Only 1 person i know who is always at the computer and doesnt pick up the phone!

Posted by jcpsad
I'm sure this phone always hang like their OS... Well for me it would be a "BIG FLOP" like the x-box...

Posted by wrecked_porsche
I would never buy it !!

Posted by jnonhoffzieg
I tend to buy things I like as opposed to companies I like - and it's quite difficult to imagine the Windows platform being abandoned by Microsoft, especially in such an important market as mobile devices!

I'm not saying I love Microsoft - as we all know, their strategy is to hook people on upgrades. I prefer being able to choose.

i would buy it and i would make it my first choice in fact, no p800 for me if i had a chance to get the sendo z100 now, i would get it without thinking, i love it....

Posted by Eulogy
if the price is right,so maybe yes,i would consider it.

The last thing I want is Windows on my phone! Yuck!

Posted by jcpsad
i would buy that phone if its developed by APPLE )

I got tired of waiting for the P800 so I went and got the XDA. It's a Microsoft powered phone and it's much more useful than my old T68. One thing you have to keep in mind is that Symbian powered phones will never have as much software available as the Microsoft platform.

Microsoft phones. Never ever. No way.
Neither the operating system, or the applications.
I can't even trust my PC, and there are those many glitches and really stupid things with Outlook for instance when using it remotely (like checking new mails... people who made it didn't test it, it's not possible, it's soooo stupidly done and such a non-sense the way it works). I don't even want to think of having to use this on my mobile phone.

Long live Symbian!!! The one and only!

Posted by Fahed_2000
I have tried my brother's hp microsoft phone, it cool but the battery lasts just over a day, also it takes a long time to make a phone call
When the p800 is out the comparison will be interesting

Super G, why dontcha use Linux, it's a great OS!

I typed my reply right after I reset my laptop because of a bluescreen in winXP (IRQ_driver_not_less_or_equal or something like that, very helpful)...

I'm only using Windows, because I 'have' to, for example Photoshop isn't available in linux, and I have to use Windows to log on to my university-network

However, I ban as much M$-'products' as possible: IE->mozilla, outlook->mozillamail, M$office->openoffice, explorer->windows commander, mediaplayer->windvd. for example...

the only M$-products I like is calculator, notepad, Flight Simulator and it's accompaning FFB-joystick

I would buy a phone that suits my needs and therefore would buy but also Nokia or MS, Siemens or Motorola. Whatever I feel suits my needs best.
I have XP professional and never experienced any problems. I would prefer the computer market to be more like the mobile phone market with many more choices...

I never signed any contract with or Nokia or whatsoever... I think that the best way for me to express my preference is by buying products..

If MS is doinmg better phones I will buy them

was your Laptop bench tested to work with Win XP?
did you send the fault report to MS?
what make and model & list your software - i can probably tell you whats wrong.

Posted by markboyce
The price of the Orange SPV Microsoft Smartphone will be under £200 It will come with accessories in the box too.

@ jnonhoffzieg

Yes Linux is good. It's Finnish like Nokia...
But it's mostly attractive for developpers. And it's hard to avoid Windows when having a PC... Because Windows was there first, and has managed to become the standard OS... Symbian is now first on mobile phones, and I do hope it will keep its strength. The 5 largest mobile phone manufacturers are Symbian licensees, so I believe and hope the war will be easy.

Windows is too greedy in resources. And judging from the battery consumption problem related to these Stinger phones, I believe they've done the very same wrong things there.

yes, it's a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 and it's supposed to be 'Designed for Windows XP', it even had a sticker with that printed on it.

and how could I send the error report to M$ if the only option is to reset my laptop?

Posted by decoy7
stickers mean nothing, you failed to list the software and spec of the machine....do you want to try resolving the problems or you happy with them?

you can pm me and i'll try to diagnose as i said before.

Quote - Blue Screen

Have u ever used windowx XP?......I have never once had a "blue screen" and it has never once crashed on me. it is the most stable O/S i have used.

I dont understand why the whole world must contunially slag of microsoft. If it was not for them, computing would be a whole lot harder.....

Posted by [MDS]
XP is extremely stable, so will the ms mobile platform... don't even go there arguing that it will crash, it might have some bugs, pretty much like any other phone (t68 for instance) but it will not be crashing or giving blue screens, trust me...

Posted by sg-fr
For win xp just unplug a usb device like an adsl modem u ll see a beautiful blue screen and a reboot ... I ll never buy micsoft device ;)

Posted by marknicholls
but before u unplug a USB device.....tell it u are going to unplug it. Its like anything, if i misuse it it wont work correctly.

Posted by sg-fr
Why tellin xp we re gonna unplug it ... It s gotta be automatic i had on trouble under 98 and i have now on troubles under my little debian ;) if u have to warn the phone before plugin it onto the charger it s gonna be fun ;) sorry for my bad english i am french ;p

Posted by marknicholls
Well no phone u buy is gonna be 100% prefect....T68i cerainly wasnt.... i just think people slag of microsoft to quickly. The phone os bloody wicked!!

Posted by sg-fr

Posted by sg-fr
Well u know if i don't like them it s just because of shitty things they produce with the resources they have ... And i don't like the paladium project ... So seeing something like it in my phone on way...

Posted by marknicholls
I one of thje best thjings about gettin this phone is that orange will give u 10mb for only £6 a month.....and an MSN conersation is gonanbe hardly any data

Posted by [MDS]
i have just unpluged, my cable modem, my zip drive, my infrared, my smart card reader, all at once and without telling anything to windows, Hey watch me keep writing this message, but where is blue screen... nah the only thing i saw was in my task bar, saying safely remove your hardware.... nothing happened.. so beat it, there are no blue screens in xp.. ms rulez... i am sick of this opposition, don't like it don't use it, no one bashes se here, i just want to spend my money where i get the most valuable product, not just some crap because it is SE or whatever the fcuk... By the way, people who are getting blue screens my advice to you, double check if you know how to use a computer on at least knowledgeble level...
argh, so frustrated...

Posted by sg-fr
Well i don't have anymore any ms product (only an old joystick that i like ;) ) and if u have on blue screen i m happy for u we don't need the same thing from an os i think ;) and if i wanna tell xp is unstable coz i tested it and i prefere a debian it s my right ... U probably never used an unix os or are a gamer ... I don't trust msoft that 's my opinion man...

Posted by doubleduh
decoy7, I've sent you a pm with more details...

and I once had a Philips Nino with Windows CE on it, and I just couldn't go anywhere without some sharp thing to push the reset-button...

Posted by swazi
I wouldnt buy the first show at it, as they are still not as clued up SE if you know what i mean

Posted by MacF
No. I don't want to buy that phone :-(

XP sucks

Yes i used other os, not unix, but linux.. i did not like the gui, and there is nothing that is compatible with that, and as far as unix goes, i am not sure but don't you have to configure some sort of a core there, and it is a pain... but once its set it is very stable and spotless? i am not sure, but one thing is true, i do play a lot of games and run a lot of apps that are ms exclusive, so there is no other way for me to go... and i trully like it as well...

Posted by jcpsad
looks like despite of its looks... nobody wants this phone

Posted by Deltayoda
I'd buy a Linux phone, but it has to be included with a GUI or keyboard at least, lol

And Windows was not here first, I believe Xerox was the first (GUI wise), then we had GEOS (For those who remeber that, hehe)

Posted by jcpsad
maybe in the future all phones are powered by different OS... what do you think?

Posted by sg-fr
MDS the power of linux which is a unix like os is that if u don't like the gui then u change for an other ;) and lot's of app have their free clone under linux which is a lot of time better ... The only lack is games ... Believe me when u switched to a powerful linux like debian or slackware and that u felt the power inside u can't go back to a system like xp ... If there 's a phone running under a small linux i'll buy for sure coz i know bugs will be eradicated fastly and there'll be great things underit

Posted by marknicholls
Im very excited about being about to use a windows based phone. Synch-ing everything would be even easier than it is now, tere would be no compatibility issues. I cant wait

Posted by Crippsy
only if it was compatible with OS X (yes i know that'll never happen) and had a half decent battery llife (unlike aything else that runs windows)

If only apple would release an i-phone, mmmmm

apple rules!

Posted by tao980
I would surely buy one!

Posted by amagab
I would not buy a Microsoft phone considering their OS always crashes, freezes, hangups etc. To me the best cell phone OS out there right now is the Symbian that is found in the SE P800.

Posted by amagab
To add my earlier post I am really excited about SE and Apple joining hands for future projects. Wouldn't it be great to see SE develop phones with OS from Apple?
