I would love for someone in the UK planning to buy SPV to post a review here. I am in the US and will be flying back home in December. Orange might plan a release in Switzerland too. So I would like to know how the phone is...
These are the things that make Esato relly great. You get first hand information by people who something

duh, clancy23
i did not say that p800 could not play and use different media as a ringtone, i was talking solely about spv, underlining that it can use various sound formats,.... don't confuse.

Talk time sucks!!! 2.5hrs only. I'd need at least 2 extra batteries to get through a weekend
Posted by [MDS]
yeah, i agree about the battery, but that is the price you have to pay for the 65ktft and constant msn connection... anyway it is still better than p800....
Posted by marknicholls
Imagine.....with a 128mn Memory card, you could watch an episode of buffy or a good 1hour of anything on the move! AMAZING!!
Posted by MrSavoy
I also want to get the SPV when it comes out here for TM March 1. The reason it has such shitty talk time and stand by time is not only because of the TFT sscreen. Its because it uses a LIT ION battery and Lit Polmer like the T68 and P800. But i'm willing to bet you can buy a lit polmer battery for it. Also MS released a BT add on recently for this phone. Yes it has Poly tones as well. Awesome phone. I will be getting it. Unless by Mrach 1 SE has a T68 replacement that beats this phone out.
Posted by [MDS]
hold on, what is the difference between li-ion and the polymer, i thought it was just the fact that same capacity of li-polymer takes less physical space than the same li-ion, so with the polymer battery you would just have a either smaller baterry (physically) or a higher capacity in the same casing, it would not make that much difference, imo. and one more thing, who told you that TM will ever carry it, especially march 1st? where is it coming from???
Posted by marknicholls
i thought nov 11th?
Posted by wapchimp
@marknicholls - thats UK release date - there are refering to US release date - SPV is Orange product only (handset was named code-named stinger) so I'm sure the smartform platform will be used by other manufacturers aswell
Posted by marknicholls
There are rumours that if u buy the SPV on orange that u will have the option of 10mb for just £6 a month.....if its true then thats a bargain...
U heard anyting orangeman?
Posted by MrSavoy
Its coming to TM USA March 1. Its not the same exact looking phone as the orange one, but it will have the same hardware.
Posted by [MDS]
okay, you are talking about sendo z100 then, it will be in the us earlier than march... confirmed. i emailed sendo people, they said november for europe and january in the us... it is larger than the spv though, and the major flaw in it (for my taste) is the battery cover has a plastic clip to hold it in place, just like a regular remote control, there is no locking mechanism at all... it will wear off in a month or so... so it brings me the feeling of cheap a$$ craftsmanship... oh, well, spv is the way to go for me...
Posted by ojsph
hey MDS, you're very much excited about the spv phone! im just a little bit curious what are the advantages between chosing a phone from a computer giant and a phone made by phone network supplier? is it the internet content delivery or any? phone base vs pc base?
Posted by marknicholls
I agree with MDS.....It has outlook, MSN and I.E.! Real web pages on a phone that is a great size, not a brick
Posted by LiquidSnake
Does anyone have the excact zize and battery time for the P800?

The handset software is made by microsft (code name stinger as you all know) the handset is made by the people who make the ipac for compaq - Orange don't make them.

Is there light at the end of the tuneel for the P800???
Posted by decoy7
there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but due to bragging and boasting it will now have to share the limelight with some uninvited guests who want to crash the party...and they all know what it'll be wearing when it arrives.
Posted by MrSavoy
MDS please tell me how you are going to go about getting an spv from Orange. I would like to get one also but I need to knwo how much in US dollars? The special features like orange backup we will loose with TM USA right? What else will be different for us here?

[...] outlook, MSN and I.E.! |
At least 2 good reasons not to get one
Outlook?! Again, microsoft can't even make outlook work well remotely, so on a mobile phone its gonna be even worse. E.g. if you access your exchange server through your VPN... it sucks big big time today. For instance using your laptop away from the office without synchronizing your mailbox, but getting new emails... It must be made by people who haven't actually used it!
No, I much prefer an email client that is anything but Outlook. I've used a proprietary email client on my 9110i and it was just working fine. The speed was that of a mobile network, but nothing unexpected happened, like waiting for ages without knowing what's going on...
And internet explorer.... Opera is much better. It's faster. And it doesn't crash as much as my internet explorer which collapses something like every 3rd time for unknown reason! And there are many small java web browsers around.
I'm talking about my own experience on my laptop, and I obviously don't have any good expectations if brought on a mobile phone where resources are much more stringent.

Comparing your PC experience with the mobile MS OS experience are two different things. Secondly I dont know what ver of MS OS your running but I havent had a prob in years like what you mentioned about IE crashing???? What are you using ver 3.0?? I run XP PRO and latest updates and its flawless. Anyone comparing a mobile phone os to a real compuer os is not making a fait assesment.
Posted by marknicholls
MrSavoy - I COMPLETELY agree
Posted by pinolo77
What I need is a PDA phone... SPV will not do the job I want my phone to do. But, as I said it is a really good follower of the t68i.
All I want is a SPV with touchscreen and advanced PDA function or a P800 with 65k screen and more developers ready to invest in programs for it.
MS has a huge advantage because they can punt Word, Excel, PowerPoint and so on on a phone.
only can put a viewer for those documents (I haven't read anything about editing those filetypes on the instruction that are somewhere else in the forum).
SPV is really an impressive phone!!!
But it is not what I am looking for. Of course if you prefer phone and Pda separate you could put a

No one can beat the features and functions of the P800 at the moment. Still sticking to it!

And here we go... Because MS is from US, the patriotic feeling wakes up
I'm running Win2000, Office 2000 and the latest version of IE... I've got 256Mo of RAM, and yet it can't handle it properly even with sufficient backup on my hard-disk. I get these error messages regularly (using nothing extraordinary: MS Word, Outlook, and I.E.) saying that the system is running short of memory resources and it cannot close that window!!! I.E. simply turns up these error messages all the time, leaving you no choice but to close it. This is purely ridiculous!
The worst is obviously that people usually experience different things from one PC to another using the very same OS... How consistent is that really?? It's undoubtedly that there is something wrong whether it be the PC (but here I fail to understand why, since PC is standard) or the OS which is unpredictable.
Again these guys have messed things up, and once more let me say that I really don't have any good expectations of what they could come up with on mobile phones, but surely they'll have a very hard time convincing me.

did you upgrade your ie to service pack 1 ???????
it will not crash !!!!!
i am using it about 3 months already and dont have any problem !!!
Posted by marknicholls
I LOVE XP! It has never crashed.....ive been using it for almost a year!
Posted by MrSavoy
Try doing a fresh install of Xp, if you installed XP over a previous install of another MS OS that might be your problem. Althought i Hve and have installed XP on about 10 different machines (including 2 lap tops) and never had any problems. All of these install except for 1 were upgrades not even fresh installs. But I have heard from other people sometimes XP runs better on a fresh install.

the SPV pack
"The purchase of the SPV phone is subject to connection to the SPV promotional pack. It provides unlimited web browsing, email and access to a great range of information and entertainment services (terms and conditions apply) and costs £6 per month on top of your existing Service Plan. The pack can be purchased until 31st March 2003 and runs until 30th April 2003. At the end of the promotional period you will automatically be changed onto an equal or lower priced GPRS bundle with a megabyte cap."
So after that if u want 10mb.....u have to pay £25!!!
The ORANGE SPV suddenly seems less attractive
Posted by wapchimp
not quite right mate - u can get a wap bundle for 4quid a mionth that gives 10mb of data - you can have this when the spv talkplan ends in feb03 - if it IS with
Posted by Versyl
Microsoft sucks...
Posted by wapchimp
- drawn - the spv bundle may stay for good - it is still very good value compared to other networks with gprs
Posted by wapchimp
and this damn emulator only gives me 160 spaces of text - bugger - i want my T68 back
Posted by marknicholls
orangeman@ That 10mb for £4 is great.....but why are there the other much more expensive GPRS for much less data options on orange?
Posted by wapchimp
the 4quid option is for access via wap only - the other bundles are fr downloading data - emails etc
Posted by marknicholls
how do they recogoise what is wap and what is email? The SPV will be much more than a wap device, it will eat lots of data, with email HTML and MSN
Posted by wapchimp
the system will recognise which gateway u connect through & charge u for that - gprs is expensive - html browsing is gonna kill me on gprs
Posted by bluefossil
Gee! As if P800 will be a hit one? Duh?
Posted by marknicholls
orangeman@ i know ur da orange maa and all, but i thikn i know the best tarrif in the UK for GPRS....is on o2
o2 300
300sms
300wap
300 x network mins
15M5 GPRS!!
£50 a month
Thats a great deal....just hope they bring out a microsoft powered phone
Posted by DmX
i think you people better wait for the P800 it is way better than the spv....
Posted by DmX
one question
is the spv going to be availble only for orange people which means only people in the UK can use it?
or can you buy it sim-free
Posted by marknicholls
orange only.....but im sure it could be unlocked
Posted by wapchimp
not just uk though - denmark & other orange networks - I was looking at the orange hong kong site the other day - they have got some wicked phones - check it out - very smart sanyo, NEC & siemens clam shells - http://www.orangehk.com/eng/eshop/
@marknicholls
that is pretty good value - closest orange version:
200 anytime - any net mins
10mb of wap gprs OR 200 wap mins
0.5mb of 'other' gprs
120 texts (cos that the biggest official bundle)
£46 - Not to bad - plus u can add MMS bundle aswell - T-mobile & O2 offer the best talkplans - but orange price match many talkplans anyway.
