As I had predicted... Continuos delays in the release of the P800 opened the way to competitors. Take a look at this. It might not be an exceptional phone, but will take market share away from
http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/smartphone/hardware/default.asp
The screen in pretty interesting and the phone has SD memory slot... And will actually be released before Christmas.
It might not look very beautiful, but the P800 isn't any better from that point of view.

I'm still going to buy a P800

i believe that spv will be a failure! p800 is much more above this phone!! i also believe that a phone today if it hasn't bluetooth is for rubish! p800 forever!
microsoft down
bill gates go home!

P800 for me still
Posted by [MDS]
this is a copy of sendo z100, not the P800 first of all, secondly the sendo was introduced in end of 2000, it never made it to production (yet) so this corresponds to appearence of this phone (sendo i mean) even before se was considering plans for a venture, so there definately was no plans for the p800 either
Finally, this phone is so much better... it has 65k screen to start with, it is smaller lighter, sd slot, ms platform to end with, and i know that you all will say it sucks, but look in front of you, i bet 95% is using windows to get to this forum... you can't deny the fact that ms soft is the most customizible with the most apps availible, such phone will become a hit for sure, and i would buy one over a p800 without even looking at p800 first, name one thing that sendo particulary (or even the orange) do not have compared to p800. xcept bt... it has more sophisticated java, web browsing and it has a freaking packet video service for comparison sakes, p800 sucks big time compared to this.. i wish i could get one of these now, just to have it, even a freaking alpha version, but they will get to the stores soon enough to wait..

its a nice phone n'all but if it works like this computer does then i cant imagine how many times we'll all be getting the "view critical update now"box, and what choice do we have when microsoft is the mass market producer of computers(u know what i mean).I'll be surfing this site through linux on my ps2 next year so up urs to bill gate's smashing windows,oh,and it still aint nowhere near as nice looking as the t68/i,whichever colour t68 u choose!!!!!!!!!!!t68i rules!!!!!!!!!!!

fcuk the P800....yeah i said it.
i havent come this far in using mobile phones to start buying bricks again....T68, 8850, T28, 8210, this is the list of handsets i've used recently and im not putting no more slabs in my pocket or round my neck...."but its not that big"....compared to what?...there's definitely a bulge in your pocket.
its already taken more than too long to come to market and wouldve been better if it was just kept secret...but no, they gotta talk about it like its something special....fcuk them and they're non existent phone and serve them right when it fails...too much time and effort on a product thats not even mass market and they wonder why they're losing market share?
2 words for the P800 = "anti-climax"
2 words for SE = "failure inevitable"
only good thing to be said about Ericsson is they were on to a good thing in the form of the T68 just before they joined Sony, hence it was repackaged (T68i) to represent the new joint venture...now its nothing but downhill i'm afraid....i see no lights at the end of this tunnel...i dont even see a decent replacement for my T68 with all the same functions and then some.
Posted by [MDS]
way to go Decoy... i support you completely... t68i still is awesome though.
as for the issue with windows based platforms crashing constantly, it is okay, cause you can deal with that, i mean it is easy to fix, if my windows crash i get it up and running back in an hour, so here with the phone i assume it will be same, i guess there will be no need to go to the sp, it will be more like grab a recovery cd and repair it yourself, i can live with that, and also please keep in mind that mobile os is way less complicated than windows, so it should not crash as often, i mean think about it what would actually crash? www browser? outlook or java, i don't think so, so it is pretty much self explanatory
it all depends on what you want, Symbian ( i never used it so i have no idea if its good or not ) or MS, which i trust and like, Linux is a pain in an ass with its not so user friendly interface and the lack of apps supported, so i guess everyone choses his own path, i am sticking with ms, if the chance is given....

You're willing to have a mobile that crashes often and takes an hour to reboot??? Yes, a mobile device is less complicated... but compare the reliability of PocketPC vs Palm or Symbian... Windows is Windows. Easy to use, not reliable... that's how MS makes money..not from the sale of Windows, they make money from after sales support packages that they sell to organizations.
I'm sticking with Symbian or Palm on my mobile device... eats a lot less battery and needs less processing power to run. And besides, I don't want to HAVE to pay MS for extra apps. At least Palm and Symbian have 3rd party devs that give out free apps as well as the paid ones.

MDS, your right on all accounts. But the phone is 2 tall 4 my tastes. Love the P800! If u didnt notice, MS has a habit of abandoning products if less than 95% of the world is using them. Proof? PPC, after making StrongArm cpu's mandatory, Xscale isnt fully supported so its phones now!
Posted by hyperken
i will go for p800 for sure !!!!!
if it arrive in malaysia i will get it !!!!
Posted by caff
Nah.......not a competitor to P800, its not a full PDA phone actually,,,,,,besides it battery life crap!!!!! Still, P800 would be the all-in-one phone that many people dreaming of !!!!!
Posted by Prom1
What is taking Ericsson so long 2 release the P800? Hope that it isnt 2 big. Still think SD should have been the expansion medium used.
Posted by [MDS]
okay i agree with all of you, good points, however, first lets say that mobile device, if it crashes is not going to take an hour to repair, but i see your point, i would not like that kind of crap from my phone, but i don't think it will happen that badly and often... so, we should wait and see, as far as microsoft goes.. it is reasonable to say that their competitive advantage is the fact that everybody is forced to use them, so i though what the hell, why not give in.. but most importantly i like what the phone will make possible, stuff like outlook and ie on my mobile with media player, sounds intriguing to me.
as for the height of the phone and its size, i can say that it is not much different from the p800, but it is thiner and sleekier... and lighter, and please all keep in mind that i am talking about sendo not this orange thing... additionally, i don't think this kind of phone is intended as a pda per se. i think it is all about multimedia, interactive gui, and stuff like sounds, web and custumization... so imagine how nice it would be to plug in a 128mb sd and watch a half hour movie on this thing... anyway my point remains.
as for the p800 being the ultimate package, that is actually the reason i don't like it to begin with... all those features add up to the brickness of the phone. i mean you got a camera, but it is no where near any low range digicam! than the pda, if i needed that i would get a clie nx70v and a t68i with that and get way better blend than a p800, so i think it does have it all, but all is at low range level... while sendo z100, is a tft 65k color display, all that polyphony and video support and all those javas and html viewers (all thanx to ms) and they are way more advanced than the p800's soft. so it is directed appliance concentrated towards multimedia, and i know if i had one of those i would have much more phone with a phone that is more compact, has higher memory extension possibilities and lets me watch movies on it, than with the phone that has it all, but has it bad. i mean 4k lcd, will become a discrace by the time p800 shows up in your pocket, they will have the 3g handsets at affordable prices by then...
so this phone (sendo) is the one for me, i am drooling, trying to get the early adopter's beta version, and that is okay, i know it is buggy but i just want to have it and anyway i will keep using my t68i the best phone ever...
Posted by gsmwraith
does it come with ctrl-alt-dlt keys for when it locks up ?
Posted by [MDS]
i hope it does, that would help a lot.
but what i know is that sendo comes with a usb port built in, now imagine the connectivity and wide range of accessories that should be released... and the games, the games are awesome... check the real life pictures here:
http://www.sendo.com/news/lifestyle.asp
i just love this phone....
Posted by gsmwraith
Yes this does look like a decent phonebut it is still MS, they will have constant upgrades, security patches etc., can you imagine someone sendig a virus to your phone!!!!!
and wiping it clean?? im sure it can be done just give it time, im waiting for hackers to pick apart the PocketPC phones.....
Posted by Rolud
I totally agree with Decoy7 ! Using mobile phone since more than 12 years… what I need today is something to replace my Clié and my T68m(i)… but definitely not bigger than the T68…!!!
A pretty good replacement will probably be the new Siemens S55…
Posted by [MDS]
still this is DA PHONE, in other words i simply love it and i want to get it, so now does anyone know where to buy the beta at least and how much, on their website they say 750, but they only sell it to the soft developers, so what do you think, where can i get one...
Posted by [MDS]
by the way, i am using a computer for around 10 years and i never had a virus....

Would you really like to have:
A phone that takes 30sec to startup and 30s to turn itself up. And when the phone has crashed and reboots it will complain that you didn't turn it off correctly.
A phone that will have a few security updates every week.
A phone that after 2-3 days use suddenly can't start programs because of some unkown reason, and you will have to reboot. Or suddenly you can't dial a number or answer a call..
A phone with an OS that will slow down after a few days of use. And the only cure is to reboot.
A phone that have lousy standby and talktimes. And not only that suddenly a program will hang and it will use 100% of the cpu, and suddenly you have a standby time of 3 hours without you noticing it until it's too late.
A phone that suddenly runs out of memory, and crashes.
If this is what you want from a phone then by all means go for M$.
I'm sadly using Windows on my computer right now, and I don't like it at all I'm forced to use it because the programs that I use are only available on the Windows platform. Sadly there are no alternatives because of M$ dominance in the market. I have other OS's as well that I would like to use all the time but as I said the important software is only available for Windows, which is really bad. I really really hope that M$ will never get that kind of market dominance on mobile phones. It's sad that people are more or less forced to use M$ products.

before u all make comments on P800 & SPV I suggest you try both handsets first - SPV will be released very soon in UK - P800 who knows??.........
Posted by lingart
Im with orangeman on this one...
I dont care if is M$ or not - if it work and is good then Im getting it - certainly at £180 I think its cheap at the price - esp if P800 is going to cost over £300 and SE have just hyped it up too much - SPV was officially anounced yesterday and should be available to the public NOV only two weeks to build it up... SE have had over 6 months and still havent produced the goods... need I say more?
If I wanted a palm I would have bought a palm..... As long as it does what it says on the packet I'll be happy.

Isn't it bad enough that Microsoft dominates the PC arena? They also want the console segment (X-BOX) , and now the mobile phone market ? MAN, how much does Bill Gates want ? ( his name even appears on T9 !! )

>>A phone that takes 30sec to startup...
T68 takes about this time, and longer to get to the phone book.
>>Or suddenly you can't dial a number or answer a call..
My T68 does this
>>A phone with an OS that will slow down after a few days of use. >>And the only cure is to reboot.
Can you get slower than a T68...
And rebooting doesn't make it faster
>>A phone that have lousy standby and talktimes.
My T68 is down to a day and a bit after 10 months.
OK, OK, the T68 is still a great phone, but it could be better. At the same time, you're comparing this phone to a >80Mb operating system, which is ridiculous. It may have the odd bug (name me a phone that doesn't) but it's hardly going to behave like Windows XP is it.
Personal opinion is that this phone's pig-ugly anyway!

ok few questons
1. is this stinger or smartphone os?
2. what is the diffrence?
3. the spv was on the news this morning and it crashed could it be that the os will be unstable for a while because its so new?
4. isnt it better to have an os made by mobile specialists?
5. does the spv have bluetooth built in?
6. is the add on camera big?

SPV has no

what about the other answers
any ideas?
Posted by jnonhoffzieg
@gadgetboytom:
1, 2: stinger was the code-name for Smartphone 2002 in development
3: It will probably have bugs but it will be easily upgradeable and the bugs will probably get taken care of quickly
4: Who cares as long as it's good?
5: No, this is tragic IMO
6: I don't think anyone has seen it yet...

thanks think i will wait for a while
maybe something really good will come out soon with:
built in camera
well known reliable os
bluetooth built in
big screen
handwriting recognition
polyphonic ringtones
wap 2.0 support
decent design

Well.. I guess we will have to see when the phone is available. But my guess is that the things I stated earlier will be true on an M$ phone. Just look how the M$ based PDA's behaves.
With the later software's the T68 isn't slow. And my T68 hasn't crashed once since I got the my last sw upgrade. It works perfectly, and I uses the phone heavily...
Posted by gadgetboytom
it may be good but it still lacks loads of real world features
no bluetooth (no support either)
its massive too put the camera on it as well and sh*t whats the point.
and wap 1.2.1? what? maybe that was good last year but now?
html support maybe cool but data speeds arent high enough to cope with real sites, why have cut down html when wap 2 contains the same info?
what can it do that the p800 cant do?

adamrj thanks for the link. So which design looks better to y'all, SPV or Z100? Not sure I really love either all that much but at least they aren't ugly...
I still think my T68m is about the best-looking phone I've ever seen.
Posted by lingart
Im guessing here but seeing as the SPV has an SD card slot you can easily buy a bluetooth module for it as one is being developed for the Z100 ... if that makes any difference?
TBH what do you want a camera for the phone for anyways... its nice to get wallpapers etc but for real pics - get a real digital camera.
Apart from that I cant see any overriding issues.

http://spv.orange-today.co.uk/
is the protal for SPV users
dont tell me Orange havent got it right - they have everything in place then announce the handset... what more do you want... Not like 6+ months and still counting for the P800
also if you want to watch the Orange presentation - Im in the office now so havent seen it - got to http://www.firsttimetogether.com/
any more damning verdicts...
Im sorry to say this but this looks like its going to be a winner -
THERE ARE RUMOURS: suggesting unlimited GPRS access for a set fee of about £6 per month for an initial promo - if this is true then it will do very well!!
Well done Orange!!
Posted by wapchimp
you are right - there is an SPV bundle at £6 month which comes with the handset (along side a normal tariff) gives U GPRS & access to an online back-up site to transfer names/numbers etc
It beats the T-mobile branded handset anyday - better features actual MMS etc etc - it's way better
