I assume this vertical icon strip is something orange add to their windows mobile devices?

The vertical icon strip is that of one of the symptons of the infection that orange give all there phones I really hate the orange homescreen

They are available in some Orange business stores or via the Orange site

seems like a real waste to me, but really do't like orange branding or windows mobiles so its really a no win situation

@massuer

the TyTN is available on expansys now, have you got yours yet?

the only thing i hate about the TyTN is the 65k screen and the external analogue sound like speakers.

Posted by masseur
yes, of course I have mine

I rarely use the external speaker except for the occasional hands free call and the number of screen colours has never worried me as its never been an issue, even watching ripped DVD's using TCPMP

I live in a small block of flats but cannot get regular GSM reception on Orange or T-Mobile, but do on O2 and Vodafone. The reason I understand is due to signal penetration of the networks, due to the frequency at which they operate. Same reason why Orange and T-Mobile are less likely to work underground in a bar etc. Is 3G reception better and does it benefit from better signal penetration? This phone and the right answer might mean I leave O2 for Orange

Looking forward to a full review from you as you seem to be our resident pocket pc expert. I also find your views to be unbiased, you mention the good and the bad.

Orange SPV M3100 on Racoon £35 - 550 min cross network, 200 texts and unlimited land line calls.

I am really impressed with this PDA/Phone. Prior to getting this, I had a go on my friends O2 XDA Mini and this blows it out of the water. Quick, it's lightning compared to my old HP HX4700 (upgraded to WM5).

The screen is extremely vivid and sharp, pre-recorded video playback is excellent thru TCPMP thought the recorded video on the phone itself is not too hot.

When opening the keyboard, the screen snaps round to the left, practically instant. The keys are large enough for me and I even typed up a document which is something I would never of done with my old PDA.

The only niggle I have with this is that when you link up on USB to snyc, it seems to take quite a while before it actually does anything. I am currently using Activesync 4.2 (build 4876) but previously on v4.0 with my old hx4700, it take have as long.

Overall though, I am pretty impressed, even the orange branded software works well and I am not missing my today screen as much as I thought I would.

Just installed Tomtom tonight, works perfectly, had a quick drive round the block and the response was wonderful. I am so glad that I didn't get the P990i I had previously had my eye on for the past 8 months. Well worth the wait.

If this is the way we are heading with the new pda/phone style smartphones, I am all in favour.

If only they would bring back the Psion Series 5 design but with all the new hardware inside, camera on the back, colour screen and WiFi/Bluetooth, I would die a happy man.

Nice mini review borg, going to pick mine up in the next few days hopefully. Where did you get your MicroSD card to put TomTom on?

Posted by borg975
Hi Wam7

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I have been away from my computer.

I bought the Micro SD card from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/First2Save

Got it within two days.

Hope this helps.
