Right, I just got a new harddisc, it just came back from the manufacture (it was faulty, i duno if they tried to fix it or replace it) anyway basically when I put it in my external housing it doesnt work, the disc spins and gets hot etc, but it doesnt appear on the pc (tested on mac and windows).
The housing works as I just tested it on a 2.5" hd with an adapter, and the hd enclosure is a lacie and firewire.
Can somone give me some advice as I could do with figuring this one out asap so I can do a back up
Cheers, Luke

yep the housing works, worked fine when I took the hdd out, and just tried with a 40gb 2.5" hd using an adapter, and it was 100% perfect no probs at all, but it just doesnt pick up this hdd

the hdd sounds dead still try it on ATA/SATA like stated and post resluts just try the CMOS (del key setup) and see if ur BIOS finds the drive if no the heads or the HDD MB or CPU are dead send it back stating the problem (eg. disk undetectable) and keep on there case

I only own a laptop, and a mac at that, the hdd spins and gets hot (like alsmot burns)
I really dont wana send it off again (cost me 9 quid first time) and now it will become uneconomical

Dead HDD controller mate, send it back.
Not something you can fix yourself unless you have an identical hard drive with a dead arm / platter but OK controller, a micro soldering iron and a ton of patience
EDIT:
Didn't read the getting hot bit

where abouts in ireland?
ryanair do some cheap flights.
make a holiday of it and go and hand deliver it to them..
nothing is more trackable then it being with you until you give it to them.
