Touch sensitve buttons work by having the sensor stuck to the plastic behind the cover. At least thats what ipods do, so if you removed the sensor, theoretically you could reattatch it to a new piece of plastic and use it again.

Actually, I think the 'touch sensitive buttons' are actually physical buttons, as in they are physicall 'clicked' like normal ones. I remember reading on mobile-review that the buttons are covered by a sort of rubbery material, giving them the seamless effect. If you get what I mean.
