Hi Guys & Girls.
I've purchased a SE K800i and have upgraded my sim and account to 3G with Telstra. The phone is working fine on there 3G network except this one problem. With all the correct settings on my side and on Telstra's side every time I try to access WAP it loads up the old 2.5G portal instead of the 3G portal (Bigpond Mobile Internet)
As Telstra don't currently have the K800i it's hard to get too much support form them. Has anyone here got a K800i on Telstra and is able to access the 3G portal?
I've tried my sim in my friends phone (Moto V3x) and the 3G portal loads fine, so I'm left to believe that it's not my account with Telstra stopping me. Looks like either there is something I'm missing or Telstra's 3G portal doesn't detect the K800i as 3G and redirects to the 2.5G.
Cheers,
rEEzA

Sounds like there special 3G portal has a IMEI recognition system running-meaning if you phone's IMEI range isn't on there database, you don't get access!

Fingers crossed when the phone is officaly supported this issue clears itself up.
This will be my exact phone+network combo in the coming weeks so I'm behind you all the way!
How did you end up getting the phone?
Currently only 3 and Voda have their crap branded versions. Crazy John's & Telstra keep giving me the run-around saying 'only one more week.'
In the end I called the Crazy John's warehouse direct (last week) who said the phone had been ordered by Telstra and would give it only a few more days to arrive.

I got an HK import at a local shop in Melbourne. So it's unbranded and generic firmware and a hell of a lot cheaper then Telstra would do it for (just guessing based on past Telstra sales)
The phone is fantastic and works well with Telstra, it's just the internet browsing portal problem. I guess it's not a problem if you don't want the Telstra streaming media stuff and normal surfing is at top speed for anything else.
But I'll keep trying to work out why it's not working.

Hi all,
a little bit off topic but I was in the market for a K800 but after a lot of fobbing off by the Telstra shops saying real soon now I went for the W810 thinking taht maybe Telstra if they are selling an EDGE phone would somehow put in an EDGE network as well???!!!! But I'm not disappointed if they dont the 810 is great. And it is set up perfectly the Bigpond works fairly well for me so I dont have any real complaints
cheers

Have you tried askin your friend if the home page web address is the same on his phone as you've inputted on your phone? On T-Mobile in the uk it's different for the web and wap browser!

the phone is on the telstra website, no pics though, just specs. I too got mine from hk, ebay though, unbranded. I have telstra also, my internet is working fine, but i dont have 3g sim. as someone said above, once the phone is actually released, it should work.
Though as jasond said its being delivered in a few days, then they would have done all of their network tests etc so dont see why it shouldnt be working. Or maybe it could be a firmware prob, as you have china firmware telstras may only work properly (3g) on aust firmware, i dont know though............

Does is have a flush Quickshare logo, or a Quickshare sticker?
HK build quality ok? And how do you go with warranty and service?
Apologies if off topic, but this may well be a solution to my Crazy John's problems.
PS: You're right, the K800 on Telstra (Crazy John's) is $AU879. I would expect direct from a Telstra shop to be even more inflated.

i got mine from ebay, hk seller, for $730 including 1gb m2 stick.
I didnt get a manufacturers warranty, i doubt reeza would have, as its a hk version, warranty wouldnt be valid here any way. and i assume its probably cybershot logo, as both of ours are hk versions, build quality is great, same as every where else.....but just wait for reeza to confirm this for you

Thanks ads, that's a good price to include M2.
RE: Cybershot, I was more referring to the two different facias of the K800 (one with an actual sticker of Cybershot (as per your avatar), and one with the logo seemlessly part of the screen border (seen on the SE website main page, I think).

I got the phone from "Trendy Trade" Port Phillip Arcade Melbourne CBD. It's has a flush Quick share logo and the build quality is fantastic, I’ve played with my mates “3” one it is the same. Except unbranded and generic firmware and Quick share logo, so it’s even better
The store will give me warranty through them for 12 months and that’s fine by me.
They also have an Ebay store too. Same phones and prices in most cases.
Heres the phone (and store) here
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BRAND-[....]129694QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
Check all addresses and it’s correct on both phones. Also the firmware you wouldn’t think would be a problem as its the generic. Anyway we will see when Telstra release the phone (for $900
But in the end of the day $555 after trade in, it was to good a deal to pass.
Cheers.

hey ads1107, got the M2 512MB from them also $75, I think there are some cheaper around the net, but after delivery fee and waiting it was easy just to walk out of the store with it.
No luck yet with Telstra 3G at this point... still searching for info.

Update: Still no real luck, and Telstra still don't support K800i
...but if I surf to wap.telstra.com/am/bp/bp2 it brings up a different BigPond Menu, looks different and seem to be some different stuff on it.
Not sure what it is, but I may be getting closer.

reeza,
I ended up getting my K800 from the same place as you and think I may have a solution.
I have a similar problem - still using a 2G SIM Card, but have updated all the phone settings as well as having Telstra alter the settings at their end - however I can't send MMS.
I took the time and got through to Telstra tech support who indicated that Chinese firmwares are not 100% compatible with their network when it comes to data transfer.
So I'd suggest re-flashing the phone to EU firmware and see how that goes! I personally am going to wait until a new firmware is released before I re-flash to save paying twice, as the problem isn't dire for me.
Posted by >500
regarding the mms, i sent a couple to someone and they did not get them. Im on telstra, they are optus. They also sent me something, but i received something totally differnt! what firmware should i flash too for it to work properly jasond?
cheers

Hm, I forget whether it should be Europe_1 or Europe_3?
Both I'm sure would be fine, one of them is Australian (with mandatory shutter sound), the other English with suppressed shutter when in silent.
I know from experience that I changed my K750i over to the EU firmware and had no problems with MMS or otherwise on Telstra, but am unsure if this would still be the case with the K800.
I'm sure there would be others here able to be more definitive then I.
You could always try putting in a call to SE Australia and getting their thoughts on it? Just say you bought the K800 when you were over in Hong Kong, and want to know of any shortcomings when used on an Australian network? Maybe you can find out which Europe firmware to flash/not flash (for shutter sound reasons)

Hi Guys,
Besides the wrong portal for 3G MMS and every other feature is working 100% fine, every MMS has gone through with out a problem, also I've found some media streaming on Bigpond Wireless and even the streaming is working fine.
But the firmware update your talking about may help, I guess all we can do is just sit tight till the next firmware update and see.
What are your firmware versions just out of curiosity?
R1CB001
prgCXC1250214_CHINA_WI AR1CB001
I'm guessing the one your talking about has _EU rather then CHINA, is that correct? And would this be changed with the WOTANSERVER?
Posted by jasond
Yeah, Wotanserver or Da Vinci. I've only ever used Da Vinci so can't really comment on Wotanserver.
You don't have to wait for a new firmware to upgrade, but it does make sense in my mind if there could be one just around the corner. It'll save reloading all your settings all over again, as I mentioned in my PM to you, it will reset the phone, so make sure everything is backed up, and also take out the M2 before you do the update as well!
And yes, I would expect CHINA to be replaced with EU. It seems odd that we are each experiencing different problems, possibly to do with 3G vs 2G (my phone). Cheers.

i changed my w810i from hk firmware to eu2..... think everything worked well, though icant remember if the mms worked or not
Posted by jasond
Did you do that just recently? Or is this eomthing you did to your W810 a while back?
Just curious to know if someone mentioned this was the thing to do a while back, as it would confirm that it's exactly what needs to be done to the K800 - although I'm already pretty sure this is the case.
Posted by >500
did this probable bout 3months ago...maybe more...maybe less
Posted by reeza
Oh well, giving it a shot, running the K800 on Wotanserver now as we speak. Fingers crossed, will let you know how I go....
Geee, it takes a while for it to download from the server....
Posted by reeza
Done, but not done.
I've change the firmware using the Wotanserver server. It auto detected to use R1CF001 Generic Australia [Europe 2] which I used.
The update worked fine, and now reports R1CF001 prgCXC1250210_GENERIC_WI R1CF001
But Big Pond's 3G portal is still not redirecting me from the 2G portal, which was the purpose of the exercise. But I can access a little more content as it's detecting my phone as a K800i.
At this point I may ring Telstra again and see if they can help me try and work it out, but I believe it may be the case I may require a Telstra firmware, Like our "3" brothers who have the HUTCHINSON firmware.
Cheers,

I bought my k800i from ebay unbranded and can access three content with no problems. All i had to do was enter all the correct settings for MMS, Internet and Email and off i went. I did not need the three firmware. But maybe telstras different...
Posted by reeza
Thanks for the info Daisun.
I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I need this so called "Bigpond Menu" thingy installed?
Posted by Daisun
Well i just checked on the telstra website and it doesn't show that the k800i is out yet, but three on the other hand are selling this handset. My suggestion to u would be to either call telstra or just wait until it comes out and then find someone who has a k800i from telstra and compare the settings.
I really doubt that you need a specific firmware to access their 3G website it would seem to be too much of a hassle for telstra to do this when they can just simply do what three have done and just enter their settings.
Posted by reeza
I know Crazy Johns is selling them, and I believe Telstra Shops (not Telstra online) are also selling them, so I guess it's just a case of finding some one with one.
But I did visit the Telstra configure page for the settings, and the K800i is listed and it sent the settings to my phone.
http://configure.telstra.com.au/
I wonder if it's an account problem as I moved from a GSM account to a 3G account.
Posted by Daisun
Well if they sent u the settings it should all work then... I think its time to give telstra a call

UPDATE
Hi Guys,
Well after trying everything to get this to work including firmware update with no luck. IT'S WORKING!
For no reason at all, the 3G portal started working today. So must of been a Telstra issue with the K800i.
Anyway happy to report, that I now can't fault the K800i on the Telstra network
Cheers,
