Sending a Flash Text Message

Posted by Sooteee
I just posted this in the K800 tips and tricks but it may work for others, give it a go and post here if it does.

____________________________________________________________

Don't know if this works on all networks but it does on my T-mobile Flext sim.

Start a message with > !! then type message e.g.

!!Hello you.

Send it and the message gets sent as a flash text message not standard.

i.e. the message appears on the receiving mobile, already opened and they can read it on the screen but cant save it, edit it, move it to inbox, nothing!
Once you hit OK to say you've read it it's gone forever, no proof you ever sent it in the first place!

Have fun if it works for you.

I recieved a "please registrer your phone" message from SE in this format. Thought it was spam since it showed up on the main screen.
Anyways, doesen't work with Tele2/Telenor in Norway (sending that is)

It worked. I sent from t-mobile to Orange and a anonymous message arrived and disappeared after it was read. Brilliant! Hours of fun... :-)

Posted by goldenface
Ha ha. Just sent a flash message to my mates sister just saying "rotten bitch" and she texted back saying she thinks she's been "bluetoothed" :-)

Posted by jcwhite_uk
Didnt work for me on o2

Posted by DCUK7
Quit making me jealous goldenface ;-p

I would love to be able to do this though!

I am on TMob USA and it did not work.

Posted by Sooteee
Looks like it's a T-Mob UK thing then. At least we can have fun with it. :

The rest of you are stuffed!

I can't wait to be in the pub tonight... theres no end to the possibilities

Its even easier and better than bluejacking.

@DC-UK

You don't know what you're missing he he he

Posted by Sooteee
@Goldenface

Be careful with this on M8, I've not tested it by sending one to some older phones, they may not be able to handle this type of thing.

You could end up in all sorts of poo if they can't!

Tried on o2 to orange and no luck, damn!

Posted by goldenface
@whistla

I'll practice in the pub on some of my closer mates first while they near me and if its still anonymous then woe-betide them

I'll send anonymous messages telling them they have an admirer, or

"nice Shirt" messages

I'll sent two of my mates a "meet me outside in 5 minutes but don't tell anyone" message

Use MyPhone Explorer and u have this option when sending a message from the PC no matter on what network u are. I was able to send flash message from Orange to Orange. From the phone I can't do that.

Posted by whistla
Thanks, ill give it a try.... as soon as i can fix a problem with my usb :S

@ goldenface or Sootee

Try sending a flash message and enclose part of it in < > for example:

hello

That should make sir blink off and on.

Posted by goldenface
You mean like....

< !!hello > ?

Edit: no, didn't work I tried it with and without the spaces.

Edit: Also tried !! with hello enclosed and that didn't work either.

Try it like:

!! hello

See what happens. Most people say only Nokia really supports this but you never know.

Posted by goldenface
@DC:UK

The flash message arrived but sir wasn't flashing.

Posted by DCUK7
Looks like that is a Nokia-only feature then!

Still trying to find the O2 way of doing this. No one (other than XDA developers) seem to know how to do it!

Posted by jingboyx
By using my phone explorer, flash texting always works regardless of the network. So i think there is a standardized way for flash texting. Maybe a java program could do it. . .

You can programmatically set a message to be class 0, but finding out how is quite difficult!

Posted by goldenface
Well, thats the last time I send a flash message!!

There was no end of trouble last night!

Apparently, they're not anonymous on the O2 network!

Posted by Sooteee
Oh bugger, don't say I didn't warn you earlier in the thread!!

it is also possible using floats mobile agent

Posted by DCUK7
Lol, what did you do goldenface?

@DC:UK

heh, I'm gonna steer clear of flash messaging I think, too much chance for bad things to happen!

Posted by goldenface
Yeah, I think it depends what network and what phone.

I flashed a message to my S700i which had an Orange sim in it and it worked perfectly. O2 network might not work because its the old genie network or something.

I'll just have to make sure next time.

@DC:UK, she was fine with me, she seen the funny side in the end

if its a T-mobile thing UK should it work on Virgin UK? (no cred atm) as they are both the same company

Posted by DCUK7
Flash messaging does work on the O2 network, but triggering it is different than the T-Mobile way (i.e. putting !! before the message).

Each operator would probably have their own way of setting the message flag to 0, some may not allow it at all. Those damn XDA developers know how, one of them created an application which allows you to send flash messages, but they won't say how to set the flag to 0 on the phone itself!

@ goldenface

Next time, maybe use someone else's phone?

Posted by glennhwth
just tried it from vodafone to t-mobile UK
didn't seem to work

Posted by whistla
How do you send a flash sms using myphonexplorer?? Thanks,

Posted by jingboyx
Just toggle the Button (with flash icon) in the message compose window

Posted by slayerule
cant get it to work on orange any ideas?

Posted by happykhan
There is an option in MyPhoneExplorer with which you can send flash messages.(V. 1.4.5)

Posted by aberudder
I have tried to send myself: !!Hello you. and i am on virgin using a k750i and it has worked exactly as described
so it cant be only t-mobile

Posted by baste07
this doesn't work

Posted by tk338
Anyone know how to do it on O2 yet?

Posted by Coxy
I sent myself a message using MyPhoneExplorer and it showed my number. (O2 contract, K810)

Posted by gtreds
U guys having fun huh! By sending dis mess u mean the sender remains anonymous, that'l b cool.

Posted by Targett
It works on MyPhoneExplorer on O2UK but the recipient gets a message saying who it's from...

I'm liking this though )

Posted by SE4NICK
Ill have to try this........

Posted by SE4NICK
Z550 with dodo dosn work to moto L6 with telstra and vice versa........

Posted by damo55
Virgin is a partner network of t mobile, so it'll work.Anyway on a different note you don't need to prat about doing this on a s60 symbian as there are a few apps that do this regardless of network.I use sms1 ..Works everytime.

This message was posted from a WAP device

Posted by BOSSHOGG
Didn't work on o2, but my phone explorer does, it shows the number though.

Is there a java flash message app?

Posted by SE4NICK
How does MPE do it ?

If we could find out the "coding" i guess that my phone explorer uses we could do it ourselves.

Ill hav a look to see if theres an app

Posted by BOSSHOGG
I had a look for a java app, found about 3 that might be what's needed. But none ran on my k750, i think they were Siemens only, they mainly showed up on Siemens sites.

Not a clue how MPE does it, but the fact it does must mean it's possible.

I've tried the !! method using a T Mobile Samsung and it worked, but the number shows. Also, you can't save the message on SE phones......but you can on Samsungs!
