*sigh* i always wondered that too... i've never seen another forum that does that :/ maybe to stop the high posters from err.. showing off there stats? haha that made no logical sense... :/

It was apparently put in force to stop some members from 'posting for the sake of upping my post count'. There are quite a few theads lying around if you just search a bit. I remember reading that (before I joined) in the beginning of esato, people just rushed to get their post counts up and in the end, ended up with a lot of trashy posts everywhere.
Oh well, hope that answers it.

firstly, why do number of posts matter? as shown clearly in a few threads lately, people can post any old rubbish in threads but it doesn't add to their credibility, if thats what members are looking for in post count
secondly, why does seeing the exact number over 500 really matter?
lastly, if you really need to, you can see the exact count by clicking the members profile button at the bottom of each of their posts
edit: no, post count doesn't really mean alot

Laffen mentioned once, that its easier him to check a member if it is, the postcount reflects how active a member is. Btw u can check the real postcount of a member at the pm

well,a newbie would trust better when his/her reply is posted by a >500 er somehow and would be encouraged more for sure,to discuss more issues and post replies as well,being assured that there are no certain groups or something,that anyone from 4poster to >500 poster all are Easatoers (same for me myself months ago when i was counting my posts from 1 to 10
