wow i recently tried mysh's app and i can say only :
GREAT JOB MAN!!!

Posted by blunden
The people who hasn't tried out M3 yet because you are certain the commercial apps are better, think again.

I compared the results of a south park clip. The programms I used to convert it to mp4 was WinAVI and M3 0.856 at High Quality (there is a Very High Quality setting). I would gladly post screenshots but I they just turn up green. Though if people want I can upload the two clips.

What I can honestly say is that the difference will blow you away. It's much sharper and the colors are better. Also the WinAvi clip has some compression artefacts in some places. And the best part is that the M3 clip is more than 600Kb smaller (the bigger file being a total of 2,76 MB). Just wanted to let you know.

Ran into some problems with M3 0.852. At first when I start the program I get a notice that an update is available, I choose to upgrade but nothing happens, the program just shuts down. Anyway, I tried to convert an avi (don't know which codecs it contains), the progress bar goes up to 105% and then the whole program hangs and shuts down. Any way to solve it?

finally got M3 working yesterday. Works a treat.....thanks mysh.....

Posted by blunden
Lleoman: Try the latest version, because there are quite some fixes in there. One of them is the auto update. Now you can convert directly from DVD.

convert directly from DVD now using M3... Great feature to add

Here are the pictures for my comparison.

WinAVI

M3 0.856

Posted by mysh
Thanks for all the encouragement everyone.

and nice comparison! Never used winAVI, but it doesn't look too clever.

Oh, new version of M3 will be out later today, with quite a lot of new features implemented.

Until mysh adds support for the RealMedia formats you can rename the rm-file to avi and install this codec for it to work in M3.

http://www.free-codecs.com/Real_Alternative_download.htm

The lite-version is good.

Posted by blunden
masterv: The temp folder doesn't happen to be your output folder does it? If it is you can try opening the temp.avs file in there in media player to get some info about the error.

Posted by mysh
Thanks for reminding me about realmedia support, i'd forgotten, i'll try to get it into the next version.

masterv:

can you play this xvid avi in windows media player? You might need to install a codec to play it.

m3 will never open your temp folder, only the output folder. To get to the temp.avs blunden mentioned, you need to browse to c:\documents and settings\your user name\local settings\temp\m3 . Playing temp.avs in WMP will tell you what the error is.

M3 currently doesn't work properly with accented or non-english characters in filenames and paths, that might be the problem for you. Try renaming to english-only filenames/folders for now.

You have M3 installed in a folder with international symbols. Install M3 somewhere else and try again.

Cool its workin thanks @ blunden and all others

Hey mysh .. great app

I instaled it and avisynth also .. but i get something weird.
When i try to convert a avi or mpeg2 and press convert it takes like 2secs and then pops up the output folder, and it doesn't convert anything.

The files play ok in media player.

Any ideia what can it be?
Thanks

EDIT: Solved, didn't have the vbasic runtimes installed

see the post above yours.

m3 currently chokes if the file you convert or the path for the output and temp folders use any international characters. You need to keep to english characters only for files and folder paths, until i sort it out.

remember, m3 is still alpha! that basically means there are big bugs and limitations, and that it's nowhere near finished.

I converted my movie and have a new problem if I play this converted movie on my PC, all is okay. But, if I play it on my w800i, I get sound laggs.
I converted the file with all on Very High Quality and mode W800/K750, any help ?

Thanks

Posted by mysh
Use high quality instead, very high can cause problems on some movies.

Posted by masterv
I installed the newest M3 v0.860 via auto update. Thats very cool.

But I'm not able to change the codec from XVID mpeg4 into x286 or something like that, is this a bug ?

Posted by mysh
you can only use x264 on the k610, k790, and k800. If your phone doesn't support it, you can't use it, because it wouldn't play on your phone.

[ This Message was edited by: mysh on 2006-08-09 15:31 ]

Posted by blunden
Does the x264 codec give better quality or does it decrease filesizes? Should us K800 users use that instead?

Also, I can't click the browse button to browse for the subtitle to include. Why is this? Just noticed the "problem" is still there in the 0.862 version.

Btw. what is fixed in 0.862? The changelog wasn't change so...

Posted by mysh
0.86.2 included a missing file for GPU filtering, and fixed a small problem with vob files. But i still wouldn't recommend using M3 for vobs yet.

x264 should only really be used if you want to save space. It's limited to 176x144 resolution, and is only for the k800/k790/k610, so it won't provide as much detail as xvid. That's because the phones can't play 320x240 h.264 video.

The subtitle button is greyed out because you haven't selected a file from the list. You can't add the same subtitle to all files, you have to select the file you want the subtitles for.

After you select a file in the list, tick the "Add Subtitles" box, and then browse button will enable. Then point it to your sub/srt file for that video.

A new problem

If I convert a file with the GPU dx9 filter I get in the upper right corner some lines, looks like artefacts or something like that. I have a X850XT-PE gfx.
Is the quality better with the GPU Filtering ?

Posted by Lleoman
Thanks for a great program mysh! The problems I had before are gone in the newest version. Three small questions though:

Can you make the program to keep the previously set output folder after an update? I don't want to use "my mobile media" and now I have to set the folder after every update.

What about 2-pass video? Does it make the quality much better at the same bitrate, just longer conversion?

What's the difference between the audio codecs?

Posted by mysh
hi,

masterv, there's a bug in the GPU filter for ATi cards, a fixed version will be in the next version of M3 though.

lleoman, i'll look into restoring previous preferences after an update.

2-pass can save you some file size, maybe 10 to 30% depending on the kind of video, and the max % setting. if max is 100% you'll save a lot, but video will look worse. 115% will save you some file size, and look about as good as 1-pass. 130% will save you a tiny amount of file size, but it'll look at least as good as 1-pass.

i'm not going to explain the differences between audio codecs again. You can find information in the last few pages of this thread...

http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=37

or you can search for each codec at www.wikipedia.org

Once i write the help files for M3, there'll be a full description of the codecs included with the program. Right now i'm still adding features though.

thanks and great work

thanks thanks thanks

cheers! and you're welcome.

just to update everyone, m3 version 0.86.3 that i released today supports international characters (letters) in file and folder names, even right-to-left languages.

WOW!!! What a nice software!!! you really are some kind of genius man. thank you so much! Keep it up!

Posted by iori57
apparently i didn't read the entire topic, i found the solution to my problem now...
in case someone has the same problem as me, make sure that:

1. Download and Install Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 (dotnetfx.exe)
http://www.microsoft.com/down[....]DD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
2. Install M3
3. go to this page and click "i agree" to download the codec...
http://www.nero.com/nerodigital/eng/down-ndaudio.php
Unzip and put neroaacenc.exe in c:program filesm3bin

one more thing, i tried converting some files with chinese characters but failed i can just rename them to english then convert so no problem here just to notify you about possible improvement

This is how thread's should be...problem's resolved through helping each other..

I would still follow another members recommendation of setting up a donation service in recognition of mysh's hard work on this program...

Posted by jj03
btw..a quick q for mysh...have you thought about writing a quick guide with your next update of the program with regard's to video and audio container's so people pose less q's for yourself ?

Posted by mysh
Hey, thanks.

I will be adding a donation button, around version 0.90. M3 is currently just an alpha version, and not everything works properly, so it's a bit cheeky expecting donations for something that's broken in places.

sometime before version 0.90 i'll also be adding a full manual. So that'll include a quickstart guide, and a full description of every option in M3. It'll also include some troubleshooting tips, for when things don't work as you'd expect them to.

Like i said though, M3 is currently alpha, and not intended for widespread use. Anyone using it currently is just helping to test it out really, even if they're not aware of that.

excellent...well, as the last of the esato owner's to try your program, ive just quickly downloaded it, and set pirates of the carribean: dead mans chest to be converted from avi..two minutes to go...

Posted by jj03
mysh, can your program convert a film from a regular (bought) dvd?

Posted by mysh
That's what i'm working on now, version 0.87 will have DVD Title conversion. Expect it in a day or two.

Basically you put the DVD in the drive, select the title to convert (like the main movie, or an episode if it's a TV series dvd), and M3 will convert it.

You can also select the audio language to use, and optionally to select the subtitle language to include too.

very simple to use, but rather difficult to code it all, believe me! I can see why nobody else has made a DVD-to-mobile converter, it's rather complicated.

Posted by jj03
okey dokey..i gave it ago this afternoon, (dvd copying) using m3, and it gave me a list of video ts files....it will be an excellent addition..

Posted by SyntheticSoul
Hey mysh just wanted to thank you for creating this amazing software, at first I didnt believe it but now I truly think its the best encoding program, Are you going to include .vob support?

Posted by mysh
cheers syntheticsoul

vob support is the same as DVD support isn't it? i mean DVD's are just a bunch of vob files.

To get a bit technical, perhaps you mean converting vob files that have no IFO file with them? That kind of works, but you lose things like program chain selection, audio language selection, and subtitle selection.

To put it another way, if you want to convert vob files with version 0.87, the vob files need a matching IFO file too. Perhaps in later version i'll look at re-indexing (recreating IFO) for orphaned vob files.

keep getting this after i instal and try to open the program ??

c:\\WINDOWS\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v2.0.5072\\mscorwks.dll could not be found

Posted by jj03
go back to page 8 and click the link to microsoft.net

Posted by jj03
mysh, just to let you know, i'm having difficulty changing the video resolution...the vid i'm trying to convert (v for vendetta) is a dvd rip and is 532x222...i can't change the resolution to 320x240..it just gives me a question mark in the "240" box..

Posted by mysh
you need to go to the video tab, and change

"widescreen video:"

to "crop 16:9 sides to 4:3"

and it'll make your (532x222) widescreen video show as fullscreen on the phone.

Posted by >500
m3 is updated automatically to the newest version isnt it Mysh?
When you release the version with dvd support it will ask me to update right?

Posted by mysh
that's right.

Posted by iori57
Thanks for creating such a nice piece of software mysh.

Does M3 has an official website? Where we can check updates and latest news. Thanks.

Posted by jj03
There is a guide page that comes with the program..before you launch it, look for the home page among the options...
