First of all, you dont to do the settings manually. If you have the PC suite for K750, it can set the connection up automatically. I have used mobilink on my desktop with K750 and i got 4.5kb/sec.

I heard a very pious friend of mine say: Cursing mobilink is Ja'iz. My sincere prayer: May God make mobilink people close shop and haul away.

I'll be going to Pakistan for the first time this summer..

A few questions!

Whats the best network in terms of network coverage and gprs
and the cost of gprs, which I believe i'll be using alot!

Are there 3g cards in pakistan for wireless Internet that I can use on my laptop? If not then what are the alternatives other than dialup??

In terms of coverage, its Mobilink, in terms of service, its Warid, in terms of both, its Telenor. We have no 3G, but mobilink and telenor provides EDGE service.
You can get wireless broadband internet service, but not sure who provides it.

I am on a Mobilink Postpaid connection. The cost of GPRS is Rs 500 per month fixed.

When I am in an area of Edge coverage I get a speed of 15 KiloBytes / Second with occassional bursts of 25 Kilobytes / second.

For areas where Edge is still not active I get speeds of around 3 to 5 kilobytes / second.

Mobilink GPRS coverage is quite good. The entire M1 motorway is covered. I occassionally go to a city called Khewra this is also covered. Recently I went to Hyderabad and could get GPRS over there as well.

Regards

I have been using ML GPRS for 4 months in Abbottabad. Its pretty good. Average DL speed is 3 Kbps. Browsing on my i-mate Jamin is also good. Surprisingly, recently I drove to Nathiagali & Ayubia and ML with GPRS Coverage was present till Ayubia except for about total 20 min patch before & after Bagnotar. Warid coverage was only present in Ayubia, Ufone also had poor coverage. A few months back, i visited Thandiani and ML coverage was present there 2....wow ML coverage is great...

This may help for configuring ML indigo GPRS
In most mobiles u only need to put in APN which is connect.mobilinkworld.com

On your PC after installing appropriate modem (Bluetooth or Cable), make a new connection that uses aforementioned modems and just putin the Dial number *99# and leave username and password fields blank, and click to connect. No need for extra initialization commands, at least for Sony ericsson phones and i-mate JAM, Jamin, PDA2k, Qtek 2020, O2 etc

Posted by shuak
ok sorry for the late reply.
In PC Suit when it ask for Access Point just put connect.mobilinkworld.com and leave User Name and Password blank.

Nokia fones needs to put the extra Intializing String in modem settings. Sometimes there is problem in mobilink network (as usaul) thats why u recieve PPP errror or simply no communication after connecting it is normal.

I live in Islamabad thats why every service is good, so usaully gets downloading speed of 4-5 KB/s. cant say about other cities. currently using ML GPRS at the time of posting. i can easily open all the site.

Hello guys,

I need some info on the Ufone Public demand package, if you please could answer the following:

* Is international sms the same price as that on normal Ufone prepaid package: Rs 1.5 + tax?

* Is international calling also the same price as normal Ufone prepaid?

* What is the recharge validity of credit? 1 year for Rs 500 and above?

* Is SMS bundle offer available for Public demand users like normal Ufone prepaid?

Thanks a bunch, in advance!

Posted by shuak
As far as i know Public demand have all the features of a normal prepay package. except for the night rate 1.50rs after 10:00 pm.

when u top tup is available who cares about validity. 10rs gives 15 days validity. (It is only my opinion)

Posted by dolph
Thanks Shuak. Well, in my case, Im only in PK a couple of weeks a year so keeping my no. till my next trip is rather convenient, thats why the validity query.

Its weird, on the Ufone website, they dont mention any relevant info on the Public Demand package except the 99p / 30s flat rate for all.

For me, Ufone is the better bet as they have the amazing SMS bundle deal, along with the hundreds of international sms's I send out for Rs. 2 each, on my E61.. gets very tempting.

Posted by shuak
yeah i dont know why they have just scan their paper add and uploaded on the site.

oh than u should recharge ur account for 500rs or above beacuase this will give validity for 1 year.

yes u fone is very good for users like u who sends int'l msgs.

and yeah there is another way to keep ur connection active ask ufone to block ur account and when u visit PK again unblock it again they will do this free of cost. give it a try too.

Posted by dolph
Blocking is one option, but then you need to call or goto their office to unblock it and then thats a hassle more than its worth.. 500 every trip is a good deal for me..I just bombard all my friends with msgs..

Posted by usmjan
as regards ML GPRS PPP Error, same experience twice in last 2 weeks. On PC the error "PPP Link was terminated" occurred & first time took 3 days 2 be resolved by ML GPRS team. They said that there was error in their system, although GPRS signal remained present while I was unable 2 connect. Second time they were able 2 fix the error in few hours.

Posted by usmjan

Posted by QVGA
its the same GPRS on both postpaid and prepaid. i get good speed on my phone.

Posted by usmjan
thx 4 comments, QVGA. converting pre-paid 2 post-paid with unlimited GPRS would be feasible. this is possible now after MNP

INSTA is also launching 3G

Posted by usmjan
INSTA--3G meaning CDMA 2000 type technology ?

yep

A good news:

Telenor has launched EDGE countrywide!

@usmjan: Ufone has (I hope temporarily) stopped giving out new Umail registration requests. This has now, for the time being, ended the possibility of unlimited GPRS on its postpaid.

I used mobilink unlimited gprs for 4 months experiance was pleasent.smooth speed. no dc . 4kb/sec downloads

what do u mean by countrywide? u mean that where Telenor has coverage or in some specific cities? bcoz on their site they have not meantion it any where even a tower a few meters away from me doesnot have EDGE!!! (i live in Islamabad). plz explain.

I think although warid has not announced edge but i find its edge at many places at lahore.any explanation for that

what do u mean u find its edge?

Posted by usmjan
though telenor is offering EDGE, its not useful if u are heavy net user, unless u have unlimited connection like indigo or warid. News in previous post regarding UMAIL appears 2 be true bc a friend of mine recently got it activated--was functioning in Pindi but not here in Abbottabad, though his ufone GPRS is still functioning. Regarding warid zoom service, WEB SMS from PC might be a good possibility.

Posted by umerhayat
@QVGA I mean WARID EDGE is working at many places in lhr DHA KALMA CHOCK LIBERY etc

because i use SE W810 . so i can see that where is gprs and where is edge coverage

@umerhayat how much downloading speed u get when u r in edge coverd area of warid in lahore. And also tel me about the normally downloading speed u get.

Posted by umerhayat
@shauk.hi brother.download speed is 5kb/sec usually.but let me say warid gprs is not as stable as is of mobilink.warid has slightly high speed than mobilink but get dc and get slow time to time but mobilink has constant speed and donot dc for days.on other hand telenor has strange technique of resetting their gprs about 8 times a day.so i donot like telenor at all

This message was posted from a P900

ln edge enabled area i did not checked the warid download speed yet.

post by umerhayat regarding ML GPRS speed is true. Fortunately, I was able 2 connect GPRS with linux--ubuntu, in which connection showed graphically downloading & uploading speed, which was consistent at 2.9 Kbps & no DC. Browsing speed was better with ubuntu --firefox. I left ubuntu bc I could not find any way of connecting my vwireless dowtel CDMA 2000 via serial cable.

Does any one know a sofware for mobile which can resume the downlods after dc.As we use download accelarator for pc.if yes please give me directions towards site

hi every one.one of my buddies study in pu lahore and using 6630 with warid net work told me that this monday night near 11 to 12 his gprs got dc and there appeared the 3G sign beneath the signal sign on his 6630 and gprs was not working at all for one hour and then after an hour every thing returns to normal.so , is warid testing 3G in lahore

cool, i hope they bring it

Posted by umerhayat
Hi.But if they bring then will we have to subscribe for it or it will work in provided areas on old settings and packages.l mean as in the case of edge.we do not need separate package or settings

there are no settings for 3G, the phone automatically converts to 3G mode whenever its available

Posted by shuak
ask ur friend that when it was happend, he was recieving full signals or there are no bars but only 3G sign? in my opinion sometimes when there is a problem in network and they stop there service or like when ur in a place when there is no coverage , 3G fones like 6630, 6680 N70 and so on, first looks for normal signals if it doesnot find any thing then it start looking for 3G and shows 3G sign.

and if he really recieving 3G with signal bars then, i read somewhere that 3G requirs a 3G USIM to work properly it will not work on normal sims.

Posted by QVGA
3G doesnt come when its searching for 3G, only when you're connected to 3G

Posted by umerhayat
hi.i asked my friend and he says that signals were ok and there was a tiny 3G written right under the signal bar.gprs was not working for him in that time period and after an hour or so.3G sign disappeared and gprs started working.so every thing back to normal.today i called help line and asked about edge coverage and they say our edge is not official yet.so we cannot provide any information on coverage area
