Hello!
Has anyone managed to configure the email client in the K800i to work with a Telia (Sweden) SMTP server? I copied all settings from my old K700i and I can read the amils, but when I try to send a mail, I get the error message "invalid username or password". I have tried to contact both SonyEricsson's Support and Telia's support, and both say that it's the other one I should contact. At SonyEricsson's Support, they say that Telia does not support the K800i, which is strange, since both SonyEricsson and Telia have the K800i in the pulldown list on their respecive pages for downloading configuration settings.

Hi,
I have the same issue with K800 & O2 in the UK. Was just about to post a question asking if the setup needs to be changed as it's on 3G. I get the message even though the profile/password is def correct. The settings are the same as from my S700 and I also had them re-sent to phone from their WEB site. Anyone know a solution?
Cheers

I also tried configuring a gmail account but then it complained about an illegal certificate when I tried to send.

Me or my partner can't get it working either.
I've tried everything in the settings including using the O2 email account but I just get invalid username or password.
A bug?

When I contacted SE helpdesk, they said that the phone is not supported by my operator. Strange, considering that the phone is sold by the representatives for the very same operator (Telia Sweden). I'm almost starting to consider to replace the K800 with a No*a N80 ;-(

Still looking for help on this one. O2 just keep directing me to putting smtp.o2.co.uk like I'm a bloody idiot or something.
This smells like the same security certificate issue that O2 had with the t68 way back. They released the phone and forgot to update their servers to let the phone send out mail.

It's definitely an operator dependant problem. The email client in the K800 seems to send username and password to the SMTP server regardless of whether there is a username and password filled in or not, and there is no way of telling the client not to send username and password. The smtp server I'm told to connect to, does not want the user validation and obviously, its response is interpreted by the K800 as "Invalid username or password".
A workaround is to choose another email provider, I found one which is free of charge and who has an SMTP server that does require user validation, and using that server, I can send emails with the K800. The only problem with that server is that it's very slow, it can take up to 24 hours for an email to reach its recipient.

I have got my Gmail account setup. I just used the settings found on Howard forum: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=647094&page=1&pp=15
I changed the encryption to SSL for both in and out. Seems to work perfectly now. Oh yeh and for connect using I just used the "o2 MobileWeb" profile.

I had the same problem, untill I set it to SSL, and used O2 MobileWeb profile.
Now is working just fine, but for some reason it wouldn`t work with wap profile

Configured a new data account for Gmail, but when I try to send a mail I get the message "TLS/SSL server certificate not authorized by known authority. Contact your mail provider"???
Lee
Update : I got a certificate to get over that first problem. Nwo it's complaining about the outgoing server name!

go back into the settings for your gmail account, click advanced settings -> Encryption -> Incoming Server -> and select SSL
that should fix you up
edit: btw, you will get a message saying certificate is not valid (or something similar) so just accept that and it will conect fine

Yes, for incoming mail (read from the POP server) it works, even though it complains about the unsigned certificate, but at that point, there is a "continue anyway" option.
The real problem comes when you try to send a mail using smtp.gmail.com:465 using SSL/TLS encryption and user validation with username@gmail.com. Then I get an error message too, saying that the certificate is invalid, and at this point there is no "continue anyway" option, thus, I'm unable to send emails using my gmail account on the K800.
I have had some further contact with my internet provider, and now it seems like they think that there is some kind of problem on their side of the fence after all, it's either a problem with their smtp server, or some kind of problem with the SIM card in combination with the firmware in the K800. We'll just have to wait and see.

I have excatly the same problem with my account at Telia in Sweden. It works just fine on my old Samsung D500, but not on my K800. I have tried all possible settings, but it wonīt work when sending E-mails (receiving is OK). Itīs very frustrating! I donīt think Telia supports SSL on their SMTP, at least I havenīt found any information about it.
Called SE in Sweden and they knew about the problem (I guess a lot have called!), but they asked me to contact the service provider Telia. No luck there...
Something must have changed in K800 compared to all other phones since it works on other phones. The problem seems to apply to certain service providers in different countries. Perhaps some security feature that these service providers implemented, which kicks in on the K800?
If someone finds out how to fix this, please post it! Thanks!

I have contacted SE helpdesk several times, and they swear themselves free everytime, it's not their fault, blame Telia... IMHO that is a little strange point of view, since exactly the same settings work fine on many other phone models, SE models too. My old K700i can send emails without any problems with exactly the same settings, for example, so therehas to be something special with this particular model.

Have the same problem...
I think the problem is that the Certificate provider used by Gmail isn't listed in the phone.
Maybe it's possible to add providers to the list?
It's in Settings->"Common?"->Security->Certificate->Trusted certificates
Got a swedish phone btw so the above may differ... I just translated straight from swedish to english.
-e- Trying with the Google helpdesk now too but usually they're kinda slow...

I tried setting username=abc.def@serviceprovider.com as username. It works receiving but not sending E-mail. I donīt think it is the settings in the E-mail client (I have tried them all!), seems more to be a specific SMTP server config at some service providers, combined with perhaps the trusted certificates in the phone? Anyhow, the problem exists in different countries so there must be some work around.
Is there anyone who can compare the security certificates on K800 with the ones on K700 or K750 and see if there is something that differs? I have only my old D500 where it works fine...
I have tried to find info on how to include new certificates in K800 but havenīt found any...

Had the same problems with Telia. It works great on my K750 to send thru Telia server but not on K800i so I changed it to Tele2 which is my broadband supplier and now it works OK both to send and recieve e-mails.

Hi again.
I tried saving the gmail certificate and then both sending it via bluetooth and putting it in the "licensetransfer" folder but neither worked.
When sending it via bluetooth I got "Invalid certificate" and putting it in the above folder and then starting up the phone it just seemed to disappear.
I might be way off here but perhaps something like this could work?

The problem seems to be DNS related. When using IP-address instead of DNS name for the outgoing server it works fine with Telia.
You donīt need to set any user+pwd under advanced settings either (the outgoing username and password both blank).
For those in Sweden using telia.com as E-mail provider the outgoing POP/IMAP server (mailout.telia.com) has the IP-address 81.228.11.34. Try this and it works - at least it did for me!

Hi all .. I have the fix on 02 mobile web on the k800I
simply create a free o2 mobile webmail account on http://www.o2.co.uk.
keep the log in details as in user name and password for the email account handy.
Now after you have set up all your email settings on the k800i, go down to advanced on the phone and click to display the new menue. here you will find a section called user name and password. in the user name it will be ie bla@o2.co.uk and the next entry is the password you have set up. save these settings, come out and you can send email from any account. My email server is ntl, but iv tested this on wanadoo and im now happily sending email from all these accounts using the smtp.o2.co.uk and mobile web settings. worked it out today after being told by o2 there wasnt a problem and carphone warehouse that said o2 had a problem for over 5 days
any questions ask, but im sure you can all work it out from here..uk people.. just set up a free o2 email account. other countries set up a free email account with your service provider to get the user and password details. No more incorrect password and user name on sending mail.

I haved tested my K800 in this way (Rev R1CB001)
1. Create an empty e-mail account.
2. Only configure it for outgoing mail (with no SSL/TSL)
I configered to my own ADSL line (there is an SMTP server there) and used port 587 as my provider (Telia) stops port 25.
3. Create an e-mail and send it and all works out fine (Simple SMTP)
4. Now I configure for gmail from their home page. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287
5. It was possible to receive emails (just make continue at certificate question)
6. Now I tried to create another email and send it.
This time it failed with the message: (translated from Swedish)
Servercertificate for TLS/SSL is not created by wellknown user. Please contact your email provider
So why has the outgoing mail execution changed when I'm ONLY configure incoming mail ??

I have to add that if you are using telenor (in sweden) you have to add smtp.euromail.se as the outgoing server.
I actually called support... And what do you know! They could help! Sometimes they suprises me!
Often you have to use your mobile-providers smtp-server for outgoing mail and not your mail-provider.
