did you know the k800i can hold close to 1000 texts

Posted by neo2600
The K800i is compatible with the CAR-100. You can add the car as you normally would with any bluetooth device. Once the car is connected you do not get a prompt or an interface. Instead, in the mainscreen, you can use the keypad to control the car as you would with any non-fastport handset. All the controls are there. Charging the car however is another story...

I noticed that there is a little red led inside the IR port. I noticed that it flashes when the phone is completely out of battery. Say for eg. i used my phone until it had no juice left and just died, now when i press the power button to try and turn it on the led would flash a few times but the phone would remain off.

I also noticed it was on when my phone wouldn't turn on for some unknown reason. I plugged it into the charger and the little led was on.

I'm not sure what its for.. maybe to show no battery?

/edit I found out what the red LED inside the IR port was for. It flashes when there is low battery. So i guess it tells u when u got low battery...

If you place the phone horizontally on its left side, the protruding backside (that holds the camera module) acts as a deskstand. This allows the phone to stand on its own with a slight upwards tilt. Perfect for watching videos.

Posted by Daisun
Wow neo your right!!! i wonder if SE intended for that or not.. hm... LoL

The red LED thsat flashes on low battery exists on other models too, loke on the K700i for example. Ericsson has had a tradition that goes a long way back in time having a green LED that flashes with a very low frequency when there is reception. In many models, that green LED turned red on low battery on some models, like on SH888, T39, T68 and others. Essentially, the green LED disappeared after the join with Sony.

It exists on my SE P990i, flashes red when battery is about to die and flashes green if i have any missed calls or waiting texts/emails.

No, Its done in the firmware. There are operator branded versions that have one of the buttons (right one) assigned to the operator's wap portal or something similar.

Just wanting to know if there's a way to use the flash of the camera as a flash light?

Thanks

Posted by soane28
Another way of starting the camera without sliding the cover or going to cyber-shot in the menu is when you have your k800 on standby, press the camera button right down and the camera automatically starts

Posted by zkool448
Since my CDS-60 desk stand did not come with the clear plastic support, I found that works well is to place a standard AA battery in the slot the plastic guide is supposed to be. Dock your phone and notice the AA battery acts as the support guide and holds my K800 phone steadily -- takes the stress away from the fastport prongs due to weight of the k800.

can you paste in applications?

YES! Everywhere where there is a text input. Some weird java apps that handle their own input, like many games, may not have the copy/paste function though, but anytime when there is a "normal" text entry, you can use the three functions copy all / mark and copy / paste (Oe whatever they are called in english)

Id have to minimise the app and then go to smses to copy and paste right?

Posted by altemyr
Yes, if you already have started writing the sms. Otherewise, you can do the copy stuff in advance, before you start writing the sms. The copy buffer remains until you turn the phone off or copy something else. I miss the possibility to copy the contents of a plain web page though.

what do you mean by the arrows? do we press the keypad? i tried it but it didnt work on my K800i

This works on all Ericsson and SonyEricsson phones

> press the joystick to the right
* press '*' button
< press the joystick to the left
< press the joystick to the left again
* press the '*' key
< press the joystick to the left
* press the '*'

Don't bother about what menus are displayed during the sequence, and don't wait for them to display on slow phone models, just go on with the entire sequence.

On older Ericsson phones, there was no joystick. Those had two buttons, one labelled YES and one labelled NO. The YES key was the one to the left. On those phones, the code was the same as above:
right-star-left-left-star-left-star

can someone try this?
if u place your thumb on 147* keys and pres them all at the same time. it openes the status menu. the same if u would pres volume buton.
and on the screen apears 6147*. although u never pressed a 6 buton.

and if u press 369# at the same time. it openes a home page and on screen apears 6934# and u never tuched a 4 key.

and if u pres 2580 it openes a my pictures and ask u if u want to delete the last taken photo...

is this just mine phone?

i've got cxc1250210 r1cb001 060608

works for me aswell..nice find, however i wouldn't see myself pressing those buttons at the same time.

Posted by sim0n_
i know. it's useless. but strange. i just accidently pressed it. and played around a bit. it seems to do more stuf if u simultaniously pres a combination of any 3 keys.

like 32 then 1 is the same as left key for selecting. and 98 than 7 is a return key. also 25 and slight pres on camera key openes camera. 36 and camera key. openes media player. 9# and camera key, acts like more key-right select key.
and if u hold key2 and pres a turn off key. it turns on silent. the same with 3 key and turn off. it locks keypad. and if you press and hold a # then hit any key, and relese the both keys it shows a screensaver and keypad doesnt lock after that.

@ranoa

not the flash light, but the orange focus light can be used as a torch. see:

http://torchk800.matlista.se/

@neo2600

that is really a nice postion to watch video

@sim0n_

wow. these are really interesting and creative findings, and they probably work on all k800/790 phones.

any idea when the new FW will come out?

Posted by bee87
It works on my k700, but I'm not sure if it works on the k800.

Press any number(s) and then press # - the phone will go to the number that you pressed in the Sim card in the "Call from Sim" menu.

For example, if you press 25 followed by #, the phone will go to the 25th entry in your sim card.

mmm why would you want to do that exactly. u'll have to slide the camera cover down to take a pic anyways. y not just slide it down and let it start.

Posted by baste07
you have a point there

Posted by o166
i've just found out these, but not really useful though

press 3,6, 9, #, simultaneously from anywhere, will open the web browser. (new firmware will need to press them a bit longer)

press 1, 4, 7, *, simultaneously from the stand by menu, will open then the phone status.

press 2, 5, 8, 0, simultaneously from stand by, will open the camera album and delete to lastest picture.

Posted by Daisun
In standby press the right softkey and activity menu and 'C' at the sametime will activate the camera.

Posted by o166
another one, in the menu, press 2, 4, 8, 0, simultaneously, will open the media player

If you don't want to wait for the Flight mode/Normal mode options screen when switching on your phone,

after you've pressed the power button the Sony Ericsson logo pops up pause for a second then you can press (no need to hold the key, just press once)

key '1' to take you straight to 'Normal mode' or key '2' for 'Flight mode'

Hope this helps!

Edit: to say there's no need to hold either key down!

the buttons above the screen next to the earphone can be used to scroll up and down in the file manager

pretty handy if u dont want to use the joystick

Posted by Jacksonian
Is there a way to change to picture dimensions? The file size can be adjusted from VGA-1MB-2MB-3MB. No problem. But when I send a 3MB image to an email account, it arrives with 2048 x 1536 pixels. Any way around this?

Posted by sim0n_
u can send an mms to an email adress. it reduces picture size. but if i try to send a 3MP picture via email. it offers me to reduce size.

[ This Message was edited by: sim0n_ on 2006-10-27 07:14 ]

Posted by Jacksonian
Right. But an mms costs money. About 50 Eurocent with the plan I have. I have 30MB of data transfer a month, so an email attachment is cheaper and of much better quality.

If I reduce the "size" of the picture, it will lower the dimensions and the pixels, too.

I guess there's no way to compose a 3 megapixel photo @ i.e. 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768...

Posted by Daisun
i think if u use photo dj to open it and then just save it again it will be of a lower resolution

Posted by Hessel
Can you paste smileys which are located on the memory-card in to SMS messages? The SMS already has some standard smiley-puppets which you can use (Insert > Items > ) but I was woundering of there are more smileys for download or something u can use. in SMS.

The amount of megapixels in the phone does not relate to the quality of the image but it is infact the size of the image. A 1MP photo will have the same quality as a 3.2MP photo (possibly even better due to the lower resolution) however the 3.2MP will be a much higher resolution and therefore a greater file size. There is no such thing as a 3MP photo at 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768.

Posted by baste07
how can a 1mp camera be better vs a 3mp camera?

Posted by ants
Your mistaking megapixels for quality. Just say the K800i was 10MP. It would be no better in quality than a 1MP photo. 1MP means the photo is at 1280 x 960 pixels and 3MP means 2048 x 1536 pixels. That's it.

Posted by altemyr
It's not quite that simple. Normally, when you put the picture on paper, for example a 15x10 cm size, the picture quality is better if the source is from a 3.2 Mpixel photo than from a 1.0 Mpixel photo, since each pixel covers a smaller surface on the paper, and thus, there will be room for more details, which in a way can be interpreted as higher quality. However, the more pixels, the more room for noise and unwanted information, and that is equal to lower picture quality.

The way the picture is saved in the phone's memory is important too. Almost no picture will render a 3.2Mbyte image file, since the image data is compresed by using a JPEG algorithm, and the way the JPEG algorithm is implemented influences the picture quality too.

Also, if you use the digital zoom in the camera, only pixels from a part of the sensor are being saved. For example, if you zoom in 2x with the K800i, only the middle 1452 x 1086 pixels are being saved, and if you increase the zoom more, even fewer pixels are being used, and for each zoom level, you can see for yourself that the picture quality is decreased.

Hey all,

GREAT thread - love hearing about all of the tricks!!

I have 3 questions about my K800i that maybe someone can answer:

-can I use my k800 camera flash as a steady light? my old k750 had this and i really miss the feature.

-how can i create a shortcut to an app in the applications folder of the file manager? I want to shortcut to the awesome new Gmail java app

-i want to be able to send full size images over MMS or email. but, every time i try, the phone forces me to resize. is there any way around this??

thanks all!!

Posted by bee87
While you can't use the flash as a torch, you can use the AF Assist light (That red light) as a torch.

Simply download a java app and run it whenever you need the torch.

Here's a post that has a link to it.

Hello,

Does anybody know how I can change the alert sound for appointments in the calendar.

I standard alert sound is both short and low, so I often do not hear it and consequently miss appointments.

Besides this I really like my k790.

Posted by altemyr
I'm not sure if it works with k800 also, but if you turn the phone off before you connect it with the USB cable, it will automatically start in file transfer mode.
