It'd be the rare bluetooth 2.0 dongle that doesn't support pan, most will.

Sorry if this seems ignorant, but can i ask what is the point? Why would you want to browse on your phone if your within reach of a broadband connection, and i assume, therefore a PC ?
I'm not being rude, i just cant see the point?!

Good question. I for one would like to use it with my WorldMate application. I have to switch out cards just to update it because my work SIM does not have any data services activated.

any info?
Posted by speedyandre
I've tried to find out more about 'bluetooth internet' under bluetooth settings and this is what the info label says:
'Use this function to connect your computer to the internet via your phone, using the bluetooth Personal Area Networking function.'
This means that you can't connect your phone with PAN to make use of your pc's broadband connection, it works the other way
The white paper of the K800 lets me think it could also work the other way but that seems not to be the intention of PAN.
Another test proves to me that PAN is meant to connect your pc to the internet using your phone:
I disconnected the LAN on my pc so it can't connect to my broadband modem.
Then I make a PAN connection to my phone.
When I refresh IE on my pc the globe on my K800 appears an it tries to connect to gprs!
I can disconnect the PAN when I go the connection settings and then to data communication, here I can choose disconnect.
Of course you can disconnect PAN on the pc's bluetooth settings or on the new 3Mb network icon in the tray

I hope everybody sees this entry. I can see that last activity was more than 2 months ago and there is almost a conclusion that you can use PAN only to access internet from your PC through your mobile. Of course you can do that, but you can also use it to access internet from your mobile through your PC. I have just managed to complete this connection with my k800i and it works beautifully. This seems to be inactive for a while, so, I will not write the exact steps to make the connection unless I see at least someone interested.

Hey wakeelm i'm interested lol... been reading this post and trying to figure it out. Driving me nuts! lol Can you please lay out the steps =) thanks !

here is a link that should help you with your question

There you go:
First, setup Bluetooth to work with your phone. You should be using Broadcom (formally Widcomm) software rather than microsoft. Broadcom software is supplied with almost every bluetooth dongle and laptops with built in bluetooth. In my case, I'm using IBM laptop T43 and wedcom 5.0.1 that was preloaded. From "my bluetooth places" add your K800i the normal way. You will find one of the services named "PAN Network Access Point". This you can use to access Internet from your laptop through the mobile internet profile defined in the "Bluetooth Internet" setting under Blue tooth.
This is the first part where you can access Internet from your PC through your phone. Using this service will create the data account that you will need later to access internet the opposite way; from your phone through your PC.
Take a note of the data account created (probably with the name of your computer) that has the bluetooth icon next to it.
Now create an internet profile on you phone using the data account created above. Add here the proxy, user id, and password that are required to access the internet from your PC (if any). Make this profile the default internet profile. Don't forget to make the default for Java as well.
That's all on the phone side. Now go to your PC and open "My bluetooth places". Choose "My bluetooth services" from the bluetooth tasks" menu. You should see now the bluetooth services the PC is offering. Now open the properties for "My network access" service.
Now change the type of service offered to remote devices to "Allow other devices to access the internet/LAN via this computer.
Last step. Configure your computer to allow sharing the internet. You can use the MS wizard to create a home/office network or manually from your internet network connection whether it is Lan or Wifi and allow the newly created "Bluetooth Network" connection to share the internet.
That's all. Now you should enjoy internet on your phone without the extra cost of your mobile operator.
Please let me know if this was helpful or if more details are needed.

i hit a wall lol when you said it'll create a data account... cause on my phone it ask Me to set it up and i have no clue what's the APN/Username/password =___=

hmm... i tried using the Widcomm drivers (5.0.1.802 and 5.1.0.1700) won't recognize my device. So i had to end up using back the program that came with my bluetooth dongle. Kinamax BT-USB using IVT Corporation BlueSoleil. Man.... I'm tempted to just get another usb dongle....... any recommendations.. anyone..... one that supports widcomm drivers right? stupid thing wasted my whole day...

got it to work... with a kingston bluetooth 2.0... not sure how i did it... lol but ya... um...just can't keep a steady connection but i got it to work so it's all good!

This is my first post.
I read this thread over and over and I still can't get it to work. I am using a K800i with a Bluesoleil bluetooth dongle.
Then yesterday, I finally got it to work and it's easy.
All I did was...
- Connected to the Serial Port profile.
- Launched the SE PC Suite (I already prepped it to connect via bluetooth)
- Clicked on the Mobile Networking Wizard.
- Just waited for a few seconds to connect (no need to press any buttons).
- Launched the phone's Internet browser and I'm in...
Easy. Hope this helps.

Hi guys,
I have a k800 and I'm trying the tutorial to acess the pc internet on my cel, with a DCU-60
but I just can't get it work
i've followed all the steps, installed all software and etc
but when I start Opera Mini with device manager, it stuck at 50% in "testing connection"
tryed out other browsers with no luck... gives error message
everything is right, it even start opera trough device manager... but it doesn't connect
anyone have any ideas on what's wrong?
Shall I create a Data Acount with my computer's IP at?
Shall I create an Internet Profile and set to connect with these data account?
(I've tried with, and without the profile... with it loads till 50% and froze... without, it doesn't connect)
P.S
Yeah, I know I should buy a BT dongle and stop breaking my head ^^
Is it really possible to connect with the cable?
What in hell am I doing wrong?

What did you set up for your data connection and internet connection?
I have done what you have done above but when i open my phone's internet browser it asks to create these accounts.
I have tried a few combinations but unsuccessfully so far.
Thanks
Posted by speedyandre
@pedrops:
Opera-mini can't check connectivity using bluetooth, that's why it hangs.
Try to start it from your phone and let it check using gprs.
When the test is ok it also will work with bluetooth.
I've tried to setup PAN as Wakeelm did but there's a problem with my K800 because I earlier made a PAN connection to my pc.
At that moment on the K800 came a question wether it was a server or a client and I think I choose a server.
When connecting PAN to a laptop with Widcomm drivers it complains that both the laptop and the K800 can't be an accespoint.
An alternative way of bluetooth setup on the laptop is let it allow devices to make a virtual private connection but that's not working
PAN then can be connected but the K800 can't use it for internet.
I'm looking for a way to change how the K800 acts with its PAN, it should be a client and not a server.

You will get a new data account when you first make a PAN connection, when this has been done you can find your pc's name in the list of data accounts on your K800 and then you can choose it in the internet settings.
In the data account itself you don't have to change anything if your pc doesn't use a proxy server.
You may check in the PAN settings if dhcp is enabled, else it won't get a working IP and gateway.
The PAN settings can be found as network connection on your pc.

I'm posting my reply with my k800i and my dial up connection!! Thanks to all! K800i rules!

well here i am,reading this thread over and over for weeks and still no success...
people i'm asking you help, cause i don't have access to GPRS(that's not that i don't pay,the provider doesnt provide it at all),so i'm in a reall need to surf on my k800 through computer internet connection...
i'm using a dial-up connection and the software for my BT dongle is BluSoleil, computer connects to phone with bluetooth using COM9,connection is steady...
i click on Bluetooth PAN Service,on the phone a dialog appears saying : "to use your phone to access internet, you must have a valid internet profile that uses a Packed Switched data account..." and a dialog on pc says : Assigning IP address.
after minutes Blutooth PAN network is connected between phone and pc(with this PAN IP : 169.254.78.20 and 1 Mbps speed)
i hit OK on phone, and create a new account for BT data accounts.with PS data type, naming it A and now save.(and APN,Username,Password leaving blank)
but a problem here,no PC named data account with a BT icon beside it is created(this account was created once by sudden before, but now,it doesnt exist)
in BT PAN status, the Default Gateway is blank.
and here i'm stucked, don't know what to do now...i've created serial port connection and BT PAN connection between pc and phone, but what now??????????
what should i do with phone settings?
any replies would be greatly appreciated ... thanks

The IP you get means that something goes wrong, all 169.x IP's are useless.
The fact that your phone wants to setup a gprs connection is normal, because it's the first thing that should be working before you can succeed.
I think it won't work without valid gprs settings.
There's another way to get all this working:
This tutorial shows a way without the need of working gprs settings.
It's a tutorial translated to English and I wrote the original one in dutch

YES!
I have created the account including the connection with the symbol of the bluetooth.
Then on the PC, i have gone in "connections" and I have shared my dialup connection...
With the k800's integrated browser, I have started it and it is worked all!
With “Opera mini” I have do an automatic configuration, so Opera con take advantage of the new connenction to pc (it is not more “HTTP” but “Socket”).
And therefore I have answered on the forum! i'm sorry only about that Opera mini cannot be used in horizontal like the browser integrated on k800i!
PS: Excuse for my english!!!
Posted by speedyandre
Wow, so the built-in browser also can use bluetooth
I've got an older horizontal browser you can try

thanks for the link, but i'm wondering that was nothing to do with PAN...i've already browsed it,and the SE SDK here,it is 73 MB and i'm using a dial-up connection 5Kbps,you know how long it takes???:D
regular download work, but when i tried DAP,download fails...
hmm...can you help me how to have that data account on my phone with BT icon????
Posted by decay_zeit
i'm out, using ADSL connection to download SDK....yeah,now it must work, heading home to try it....but what about PAN?it is useless to me????i cant use without GPRS?
Posted by speedyandre
On my phone the bluetooth data account appeared after having used a gprs connection.
I don't know if it would work when you create fake gprs settings, I suppose you won't get a working IP in that case.
But why don't you try it, maybe you'll have some luck
Once it works making a connection is very easy
André
Posted by decay_zeit
certainly BT data account would have been automaticaly created with even fake gprs setting, because i managed to do that by sudden(can't remember how,but a data account with PC name and a BT icon was created, ofcourse it was locked and couldnt be edited,do you have any ideas on this account being locked?)
the thing important for me here, while creating a fake gprs account,is settings in details, for example PS ro CS,values,addresses...
uuhhhhh,i'm dying

If the new data account did appear you maybe still can use it by choosing it as default data account.
On your pc you can check the PAN network settings for a valid IP, ie not 169.x.x.x.
Your pc will be the one to give the bluetooth an IP so check if in the PAN network connection dhcp is checked.
If all this doesn't work you can try someone elses sim in your phone if it has grprs

Posted by decay_zeit
came to write a post and here you are, thanks for such quick replies....
wanted to say,i managed to start PAN connection again, though it is so unsteady and hard to connect,1 in 1000000 tries...but when i uncheck DHCP Server under PAN tab,it connects rather perfect, and the ip address is now 192.168.0.1 .i hope it is not useless huh???
but here you mentioned DHCP checked.oh something wrong again?you know, with DHCP checked, connection is so hard to be established,a dialog box keeps saying : "a network cabe is unplugged".......now that PAN connection is gained, should i establish a bridge connection between PAN connection and my dial-up connection?
uh damn,you know something
you know another thing???:P (this is not related to topic, but really dissapointing)....here in country, there is just ONE provider which is totally poor:D,we didnt have even SMS service few years ago.a completeley primary gsm network....gprs?maybe next years.3G?i would be 90 years old video calling with my k800
i must admit that another service provider is setting up recently which offers gprs, but not still popular...

I thought dhcp maybe could help but it doesn't
Your 192.x IP is a valid IP, it's meant for home networking and that's what we do here.
XP suggests to choose this IP when you enable connection sharing so it should be a good thing
I hope your pc's connection will show up again
André
Posted by decay_zeit
i'm out again, downloading Java Development Kit required for running SDK....
so DHCP is not neccessarily checked???i mean i can continue having it unchecked right??
alright, then here i'm successfull on having a PAN connection,i also shared my dial-up connection...and one good news, last night in my bed just wanted to check things again, and guess what i saw,a data account with my computer name and BT icon:>....
this time also i have no idea what i've done to get this thing show up,by sudden again, but one question : now what should i do with these connections and account, though pc named data account doesnt appear in BT data Accounts under bluetooth menu,it's just shown in Data Communication menu, and again,it's Locked
i'd be so thankfull having a reply soon again my friend, cheers

You can create a new internet profile where you can choose Connect to (pc name) and choose this profile.
André
Posted by decay_zeit
alright,i create a new profile and set it to PC.....and when i start browser nothing happens,it doesnt say Connection failure contact your operater or something, just nothing happens, tries to connect and goes back to standby....
i think its better i try SDK
Posted by decay_zeit
I GAVE UP...
even SDK failed to run,an error pops up about writing registery,i'm so tired of all this,so i gave-up..
maybe some help from you mates encourge me...
hmm:(
Posted by speedyandre
A writing registry error means something is wrong in XP, I don't know what's going on with your pc ....
Maybe some security settings in XP are to strict ?
André
Posted by decay_zeit
hmm,don't know...
just wondering,no k800 on SDK list...so it's useless?

Hello,
Is it possible to use the built in windows bluetooth drivers to get the pan thing working the way described with the broadcom drivers. If I install the broadcomm drivers it says it cannot see my bluetooth device even though it has to have seen it to install it, and the device is listed in its inf files. My device isnt actually compatible with the windows drivers, I forced them to work with it, however I can connect PAN to it.
When I do, it starts the gprs on my k800i, where should I go from there? No data accounts are created on my phone and I don't know if its possible to use internet connection sharing with the bluetooth network thing with the windows drivers.
Thanks for any help!!!
p.s. is there anywhere which gives information on how drivers are registered and assigned to devices in windows using inf files, I want to try and get the broadcom drivers working properly and I think messing round with the windows ones has messed up the drivers being assigned to the device.

Slightly off topic but hope somone can help,i've just bought a K800i and i setup a gprs connection fine using my XP laptop and the Ericcsson PC suite, problem is i also now need to setup a gprs connection on my other laptop which uses Windows ME and Sony's software doesn't support it.Does anyone know if there is anything else i can use to get a connection?
Posted by speedyandre
@ ziggyzaggy:
Maybe you can use system restore and reinstall the bluetooth drivers, Widcomm 5.x (patched) will do fine.
Maybe patching didn't work the way you did, try to do it when running in safe mode, then you can change things without drivers being loaded.
The pan connection you've got working is the first step, the k800 won't always show a BT data connection after this and I don't know why ....
If your phone has no provider- or simlock you should get a new data account (bluetooth pc connection) and be able to choose it instead of the gprs account.
Btw, I saw the new data account after flashing my K800 to R1JG001.

Eu tenho um k790i... esse tutorial funciona com meu celular também???

You can try it on a K790 too, it's almost the same for this type of connections.
I don't have a Mac so I don't know if the drivers will support PAN ....
Maybe you can check the bluetooth services of the K800/K790 on your Mac, if it shows PAN or some other network connection then it should be able to connect

Reply I was gonna post for : http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26857&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=150
I didn't on a M600.
Forget connection sharing. Bridge you bluetooth connection and the connection you use to connection to the internet.
Here are the easy steps
1. Setup a PAN account in yo phone. I assume that you now how to do that, pair your phone with yo PC etc.
Make sure that u add that account into the prefared group and it is the first one in that group.
2. On yo PC the network connections you need to bridge nust not be shared.
3. Select both network connections (bluetooth network & the other LAN connection) -> Right click and bridge connections.
4. On you bluetooth control panel enable the network acsess service / option.
Thats it.
If it all done correctly, if u go to yo phone and try to connection you might get a little popup from you pc asking to confirm the connection.
And thats it it should work
If uz not understanding what i'm saying please ask.
Posted by TeenInvader
Anybody tried this yet. Its the best thing that ever happened.
Posted by speedyandre
It works on my k800 by accident, lol
My laptop has Widcomm bluetooth drivers and I was able to share the wifi connection (bridge works too).
First the Widcomm drivers complained that my K800 is a personal access server and it didn't connect.
Now it just connects but only java applets have an internet connection.
The internal browser starts and stops at once ....
Probably the network lock still limits the ability to use bluetooth data connections
