Good news. At least a new f/w is on the way to SEUS..It's time to save bandwidth for next week, guys..this 'sensation' is just like when I updated my old K750 a year ago..curiosity of the new changes here and there..hmm..good!

I was going to try to upgrade using Wotan here at work, good internet connection, but it seems that the site is down.

Does anyone know if it is possible to run Wotan's client on Win 2k? The site says XP only, but I do not understand why this should be mandatory. Has anyone tried?

At work I have W2k and nice stable internet connection, at home I only have internet through phone (old modem, or through 3G on the phone) but I use Win XP (and it worked fine last time I ran Wotan's client for debranding). Since my best internet connection at home is through cell phone, I will have to connect through my old phone, Samsung Z500, and for some reason (I think their software on PC) I do not get as good speeds as with my K800i, but the latter one needs to be de-SIM:ed for flashing.

Another thing: I noticed something strange in my phone today, after debranding the icons changed back to SE default, with "Play now" (or whatever) in the upper left corner of the main menu, and d/l links to Fun & Download in the different file manager menus/lists. Today the icon previously known as "Play now" is different (a paper with text and a small logo in front of it) and it links to my operators home page (the one I set in the internet settings), and the d/l links have changed (and are actually broken). The link in the Games menu is now called "9df4af.b", the others are unnamed, and they contain invalid links (can not connect).

The only "messing around" I have done lately, yesterday, was setting the System folder on the M2 card as not hidden (using MobyExplorer), and exploring the contents, copying jad/jar files for AlienScum and WayFinder to Other folder.

Have not tried resetting phone (what is a "master reset" really, and how do I do it?), nor simply shutting down and removing battery. Might help...

Please donīt expect to much from this upgrade ......

If anybody of you remember the "may-june 2002 fever" on this forum , when SE going to upgrade our T68 to T68i(with first camera support).....that was something big....LOL

just called sonyericsson in Kuwait, they told me that they have the new firmware (R1ED001), could it be that theyre using wotan instead of sonyericsson? and the funny thing is there charging around 5KD which is 20 us dollars for the update, what a ripoff! so does anyone have an official date as to when this update will be released? thanx

every now and then the firmware is released earlier in some countries and some get it later. This can be due to specific fixes for a country/provider or just to spread the relase so not all will update at the same time.
20USD for an update is quite cheap paying for an update (out of warranty since it's free when you have warranty) in Sweden can cost from 25USD to 60USD depending on where you go

Well I just tried SEUS and it does work, here in Netherlands, no problem at all. But it says that I already have the latest firmware on my phone.
At the moment I have R1CB001, so I guess its not out yet.

By the way, does anyone know when to expect davinci to be able to unlock the K800?!

I got a bug that like everyone to try it out.. (Version R1CF001)

Goto a New Message..

Type out a sentence e.g.
I have a bug to test it out.

Bring the cursor to the 'to' like this:
I have a bug to| test it out.

Press '#" to add in a space.
You will see 'faded' test next to the cursor.

*in case you don't see the faded 'test', exit out and goto a New Message again*

Now, press Continue assuming you want to send the sms.
Press BACK and you will see words after test are deleted.

Same thing happen when you press the centre of jogstick.

Anyone pls verify..

@wakk0

yeh i know wat u mean ive got R1CBb001 and it works. its not a bug at all. if u look in yr manual it will explane but if u cant find it ill do it now.

its called "next word prodiction" just another fantastic creation SE have introduced to the k800. its been round for ages for example in the "orange spv" to be honist i think is quite handy, saves u messing around.

If its not working u may have to turn it on. to do so fallow these steps: messaging > write new > text message > more > writing options > next word pred. > on/off and yr done.

Mike

Can you note the loss of Games and Apps folders in 1st post please - seems mine is not the first time this has happened and I was surprised when O2 straight away offered a replacement. I doubt a re-flash will fix it as the software doesn't overwrite this area of RAM.

cheers

Just flashed my K800i with the new firmware on Wotanserver.com. Everything went well, and im bloody happy with the new firmware.

*camera does actually seem to take clearer pictures with less noise, although i didn't think to take a photo before i flashed to verify this. The pictures i did take before seemed a bit 'fuzzy' - the photos taken with my old nokia n90 were better by an order of magnitude, but the new software seems to have cleared this up.

*noticed a few subtle changes like the joystick no longer waking the phone up from screensaver, only the back key or the soft keys do. (which is handy cause the joystick is damn sensitive )

*Menus seem ALOT faster to load an navigate through. Im serious, i don't know if it was my phone or the file system in general, but it took 3 or 4 seconds for my file manger to display the contents of any folder (phone or card), now its almost instant.

*Prior to upgrade, i had experienced the keypad locking up a fair bit in java apps (in both games and opera mini browser) which has yet to repeat since.

*Music playback volume seems about the same, music player is identical

*Read/Write permissions for apps are still locked down, you can only set it to 'always ask' or 'no'

Thats about all ive noticed so far, im still playing with it.

<3 the k800i. <3 it hard

[EDIT]
Just plugged phone into PC; theres now a "Print" option along with the file transfer and phone mode options on the connect as menu

Thanks for this tip. I have to agree on the usefulness of 'next word pred'. I use it for my sms. I usually like to edit my sms before i sent it out. Problem is i add in a word, the faded word is out. I pressed continue and my friend reply my sms by saying ' what are you talking about!!'. haa

I hate that the joystick no longer wakes up the screen, I have always been using the joystick, and only the joystick, for this. Now I have to press different keys, trying to remember what app/menu is up and hoping that nothing harmful will happen when pressing key.

Permissions for (Java/J2ME) apps/midlets: That is expected behaviour for non signed apps. Signed apps can be granted all access that they ask for in the JAD file (correct me if I am wrong, have never programmed in Java, nor for mobile devices).

i almost encountered my 2nd WSOD for my k800i. My first was replaced since it never woke up from its deep sleep. I sold that replacement k800 which i never reaelly had a problem with. Eventually, i found a 2nd hand k800 which was in mint condition also at a very low price so i got it immediately. Just today after switching my sim card from my m600i, i actually felt the grief that i felt(WSOD) almost two months ago. i immediately took of the sim and connected the phone to the charger. it eventually booted up to the charging screen in which my first k800 never woke to. after charging for at least 15mins, i placed my sim card again and turned on the phone. Luckily it turned on and i again connected it to the main charger. i guess the WSOD is the worst fault/bug i have encountered with phones. i hope the next firmware would resolve this.

I got sick of wating for SEUS to provide the new firmware, so I upgraded to R1ED001 Europe 4 (generic Nordic) yesterday evening, connected to internet through my (now unlocked and debranded) old Samsung Z500 on my new 3 SIM.

No problems flashing, took 23 minutes (slower connection through the Samsung, probably old/bad drivers). Felt like it took forever to get the phone started first time after flashing, several minutes before anything happened, but I did not want to try to turn it off.

Noticed a funny thing when restoring text messages using My Phone Explorer, for each message that the phone received, the date and time in standby mode changed to the date and time of the message. Cute!

Addition: Just sent my first text message since reflashing, and delivery reports work for me, on my K800i R1ED001 on Swedish 3.

I doubt this is an issue with the firmware itself - it sounds like a problem with the flashing tool you used. Unless something is widely reproducable and a problem with the firmware itself i'll not add this to the first post - sorry!

Added the joystick not waking the phone from standby to the first post.

sorry just have to repeat my question.. is there no night mode in our phone?

Posted by admad
There is twilight landscape mode and twilight portrait for night shots.

mwarner:

I've got exactly the same problem missing files under Games and Apps after a master reset, and as I've already written too.

So i think there is a hardly reproducable but very serious file corruption bug with the phone.... (r1cb001)

Posted by O2 K800i
@farkasg

No arguement with O2 when I phoned - I had expected there to be - came off phone, checked this forum and lo and behold - guess O2 know about it.

@MWarner - second this bug though it seems to be rare thankfully.

Just had my first reboot on the new firmware. Reading email, following a link to a rather big web page, reading, closing browser, screen goes black, short burst of white, black, after a while back to standby screen, searching for network.

So, they did not fix that one, I guess...

ok, one pic taken in natural light

Free Image Hosting at <!-- BBCode auto-link start --><a href=www.ImageShack.us" />

next shot taken with incandescent lighting at night

Free Image Hosting at <!-- BBCode auto-link start --><a href=www.ImageShack.us" />

last shot taken in a pitch black room

Free Image Hosting at <!-- BBCode auto-link start --><a href=www.ImageShack.us" />

To be honest, once i uploaded them and saw them on a monitor im less impressed. Theyre definetly better than they were pre-flash, but still leave alot to be desired for a 3.2mp camera...

Can you note please on the front page that if you are listening to the radio with the new firmware and Remove the headphones it leaves the application open so when you plug your headphones back in it restarts. It did not do this in previous versions off the firmware

Without flaming, can you answer if this is really a major issue? Why not put the headphones that you want to use from the start? Am I missing something here?

Posted by drich290195
Because say you were listening to radio and browsing wap you get a call they cant here you properly you pull the headset out once the call is finished its just hassle opening the app again. also it just shows how they are improving the multi tasking in newer versions which is significant

Okay. Do you consider this a bug or flaw or more of a wish, because surly you can agree that this is not a flaw in the functionality of the phone and radio.

Interesting. Thanks for the responses. In my opinion, I would consider this a frill more than anything else and not a show stopper. I could see this as a "wish list" item but nothing that I would go out of my way to spend much time coding for if I were an SE developer. However, it is the small things that sometimes matter.

It just shows to me how they are developing the multi tasking capabilites off their non symbian phones which i see as a step in the right direction

The phone already multi-tasks quite well. I do not know where you have the idea that it doesn't. Adding one more open application really does not prove this. I use my phone when I go running. I have the media player open, along with the time, I can stop and take picture, and do all of this while listening to music via BT(-970) headset. So multi-tasking has been covered quite well I would think.

I'd say that should be listed under the improvements section in the first post as its the closest thing to a changelog we have (and if we did have a changelog that would probably be listed).

Is anyone having problems using contact ringtones saved on any of your contact list with the new firmware R1ED001? Even if saved on the contact, the phone still plays the default ringtone. It used to work on the older firmware R1CF001 I used to have and just noticed this 2 days ago. Either a bug or just on my phone....

Sorry but I do not see it happening. I plugged in the original headphones that came with it and the HPM-70. For the test I turned the speaker on. I disconnected the headset/antenna and after 10 seconds the radio icon disappeared and the radio had to be started manually. Soooooooo, I do not see you having some super software. Maybe it could be but I do not think so. However, Masseur had a problem with his HBH-DS970 not showing the songs while mine does.

Hey Mike, I would not add the radio as an improvement as it has failed on my phone and that of a friend. I would suggest that you remove it or place it as an intermittent or non-permanent feature that only appears on some phones. I would rather see this verified by more users to see if this is fact or fiction.

I updated via Wotan Server yesterday to the latest firmware. It's a small niggle, but the large clock isn't higher up the screen as expected.

I did a full reset to see if this affected anything, but no joy.

Just read the FIRST PAGE with the changelog. I had my tie set to 24 hour format, not AM/PM. Sorted now!
