Don't forget the famous memory bug (0 byte)
When I will sell my K800 I don't want people arguing that it's a dead internal memory!

Just upgraded FOTA from R1G... to R1JC002. Doesn't wipe the memory like WotanServer. Took about 5 mins to download (3G) and 10 mins install. And in the UK

I'm from Malaysia. I noticed R1JC002 still has a couple of bugs but no big deal. Quite happy with it.

You mentioned that you are in the UK, what network are you on and is the phone branded?

Posted by MnM
Brady,

With O2. Phone was (slightly) branded but went through the WotanServer to RG... so effectively recognised as non-branded.

Posted by Horonaim
so.. is APAC R1JC available in SEUS or FOTA now?

Posted by andre_cool
ill wait fot it on seus

Your on 02 ?
How have you got the FOTA working ?
I'm on 02 and have been trying to update via FOTA for a while but it just keeps saying I have the latest software.
I've tried it using my 02 branded K800 and also my unbranded K800 but get the same each time.

I never got the FOTA to work in the past either when I was using my W810, W550, W850. All were sim free and no branding.

EDIT

He's right. Just tried it via SEUS and got R1G. Then tried using the FOTA and it worked for the very first time for me on 02. File size is 2962kb. Takes a while to download though.

A little help please!

I have a k800i with "O2 Postpaid DE" R1ED001. I think it is a firmware for Genrmany by O2.

The italian language is supported.

But, I'm italian and i want a full italian k800i.

Can i use Wotan to update firware (the latest release) with an "Generic Italy" Firmware?

Thanks!

Posted by DCUK7
@ simbus82

If you use Wotan the firmware CDA you want is Generic Europe 5. That is the Italian firmware.

I just tried to update my UK branded O2 K800i using SEUS and it still says i have the latest version R1ED.

How did you manage to get yours to update?

One of my K800's are still branded with 02 firmware and still says its got the latest software which is R1D

My other K800 was 02 branded but I debranded it via Wotan a while ago when R1D was first released.

When R1G was released (Wotan and SEUS) The debranded K800 still wouldn't update via FOTA but has now been able to update to R1J using FOTA.

Posted by thegunners
have anyone manage update to R1J APAC version via SEUS / FOTA ?

both method never work for me... it says already the latest firmware

Posted by Dovern
what is the full URL for FOTA? cos i keep seeing this word recently... thanks!

Just go to phone settings and update service then check update. You need to set up gprs first though.

My k800i doesn't have FOTA option in the menu. How can it be possible?

Yours must be a branded one. Or you forgot to enable FOTA when unbranding it.
Other explanation MIGHT be that your customization does not have FOTA because the network does not allow it.

It's the same for me. FOTA says it detects a newer version than R1GB001. However SEUS says there isn't.

Posted by Horonaim
i hope they release R1J APAC for FOTA coz im really interested in trying to update via FOTA

Posted by aremaboy
I just tried SEUS and negative. So, wait until March 05, 2007. According to EMMA website, they will release a new client at that time. Who knows that SEUS will be updated too and we all get R1JC002 for K800i, for all region.....just speculation. I just guess...don't blame me if it isn't proven correct. FOTA isn't available in Indonesia (APAC customization).

Anyway, still no reply from Wotan support about 99E0W string. It's been two days. Hello, Wotan Server? You said the support is 24/7....

I doubt you will get satisfying answer from wotan. Their policy seems that if they have not experience themselves then the problem did not exist. I think you will get the same answer (flash with M2). Most you can expect is they will give you back the credit and ask you to try again.

We've heard too much about Wotan and K800i. What about Davinci Team, SE-tool and Cruizer? They are indeed the pioneers of SE flashing right? Any experience? It seems Davinci and SE-tool have better supporting forums compared to Wotan.

I JUST GOT IT

only difference i've noticed so far is that the sony ericsson font for the startup animation is bolder

I'm pretty sure that's what my phone detected on FOTA in my last post too. Good that you confirmed it though. I think I will wait for the SEUS release as the FOTA is quite costly (compared to free ). If they release a new version of the SEUS client tomorrow as predicted they will most likely release the new firmware too.

Btw. palex, could you check if it doesn't hang when trying to preview large high quality mp4 files in the file manager? That would be a really great fix.

Posted by A L 3 X
well if someone can give me a high quality mp4 ill check it, im on voda but unbranded, one question tho while using FOTA after it had done updating i got a white screen and holding the power button wouldnt turn it off, i took out and replaced battery and ti was fine, is this whats meant to happen and will it be ok or will the firmware be damaged, it seems fine but i just want to make sure

Posted by aremaboy
Remember, March 05, 2007 is just a BLIND GUESS..once again, it's just my guess after reading EMMA website. I can be totally WRONG.
Anyway, after FOTA update, it's normal to have White Screen. Just wait until it recovers itself. Don't do anything. That what a friend with successful FOTA did. I never had it work at all.

Posted by A L 3 X
well when i got white screen i replaced battery, and it seems fine, so im guessing its ok, right?

Posted by hanugro
Well, I think this is many ppl reaction after flashing firmware. Many said it crashed while you simply need to give it some time. It can took up to half to one minute before it restart after installing the firmware. Well considering you took the batt out after (not during) flashing firmware then it should be all right. You will know in few days anyway
BTW, it is a custom in my country (service centre) to say that taking out the batt while the phone is on should be minimized. Don't think it matter but I can't say for sure as I don't really know how mobile software really works.

sorry ...but what represent EMMA ??

Sorry, guys..although SEUS is updated to ver.2.7.3.9 today, NO R1JC002 is uploaded for K800i. So a new client version doesn't always mean a new firmware release then..Keep waiting...

BTW, just got a reply from Wotan saying that they are still investigating the 99E0W string found on K800i. They don't know what it is as they don't have the K800i with them atm...

This are the changelog for the new SEUS.

from the beginning.

- Corrected problem with the script list being sorted when
changing column size.

Yes, R1JC002 is the best firmware for K800i. I didn't found major bugs.

I updated via FOTA from R1GB001. Previously I had R1ED001 and I updated it to R1GB via SEUS.

I have the Mediterr version. The file for OTA is 2964 KB big.

Does updating Master reset??

Posted by maldus
yes updating does master reset...

all content on the phone memory is lost so its better to take a back-up before doing so

Posted by DCUK7
Updating via seus does not erase your content. Updating using third party services such as wotan will erase everything.

Posted by Cirieno
Hi all. I used WotanClient to flash my K800i to the latest firmware last night, and I've had no problems (didn't realise it would perform a master reset, but I didn't lose anything vital).

I would like to ask some questions and make some suggestions though:

1. The client should inform people that it will erase EVERYTHING and that people should backup before continuing. I know it should be obvious, but it caught me out and I'm reasonably tech-savvy.

2. Each firmware revision changes certain things. Is it possible to *turn off* some of the changes. For example, after flashing, my menu icons "bounce" large to small and back again. I didn't really want that, I prefer no icon animation -- so is there a way to undo or unset an option (and if not, can that flexibility be programed in?)

3. The backlight issue has to be one of the most frustrating things about this otherwise brilliant phone! The backlight will turn off after 10 seconds which sometimes isn't even long enough to think while composing a text sometimes. Can there be an option to extend the backlight time?

If not, can some enterprising soul write a Java app that could run in the background to manage the backlight, maybe dimming it after 30 seconds or so?

4. On my T610 moving the joystick would bring the phone out of standby. This doesn't happen on the K800i. Could that be an added option?

5. This phone doesn't have a very advanced contact manager -- that is, all contacts are in a long list with no grouping. However, you can set up groups if you go down a long menu path (I think the groups are for texting). As a workaround, I would like to make a shortcut to the groups menu, but can't as the GUI stands. Would it be possible to make the shortcut system more flexible and go to sub, or subsub menus?

6. Is it possible to put the "new contact" button at the bottom of the list or off the list altogether? How often does one really add a new contact?..

I know this are a lot of requests here. As a web designer/developer I do a lot of GUI and interaction testing and have ideas to offer, I just don't know if a) the ideas are possible to implement and b) if the Wotan guys will take suggestions on board? I'm really impressed that they can do what they do though, and I hope they're good guys who listen to what average users suggest?

Thanks everyone.
