Just a little freeze when highlighting a video I did with the phone

How did you do that? Isn't SEUS would say you have latest firmware already?

I upgraded via SEUS and video preview of my QVGA high quality 3gp video almost crash the phone. It plays OK though and I change it to List to avoid video preview.

May be none of you notice on previous FW (Before R1GB001) that 'stereo widening' only works with first played file in the playlist.

But now it FIXED... IM SO HAPPY!!!
I love this feature.

And for those who want the bass effect. Why not attach the cover bud to the earphone. Works great for me

Surely SEUS says that you have the latest f/w and update is not needed. But, just click Continue anyway option. Who knows what Rookwise told us is true. I just re-updated mine via SEUS to R1GB but can't tell the video fix true or not as I simply don't have any BIG video file on my K800i at all. Why don't you try?

I updated my K800i (UK on O2) via the SEUS which brought me up to R1ED001

I noticed that R1ED001 make a fix to the "browse internet" button on the phone that when pressed opens the browser. Previously i only needed to brush this button and a browser would load up, not good for the phone bill!! with the FW update the button needed to be held in for a few seconds before the browser was started.

I then updated to R1GB001 using the wotan server and it seems that they have reverted the browser internet button back to its previous settings which aint good! im thinking of droppping back down to R1ED001

Sorry not possible to downgrade firmware to CID49 level (R1ED) unless you use R1GB CID49! The R1GB from SEUS will behave the same as R1ED in this internet button. You may try to flash again with SEUS.

Well, I don't see continue anyway option. SEUS has updated the client to 2.7.1.12 so maybe they don't allow it anymore.

When I updated to R1ED via Wotan. The Continue Anyway option on SEUS wouldn't appear and it just said I already have the latest software installed.
However. When I updated via Wotan to R1GB I had the video preview crash on everything saved on my MSM but the default video's on the phone worked with no problems.

I checked SEUS to see if my K800 would work with it properly again and it recognised the phone. Said I already had the latest software installed and also the Continue Anyway option appeared. I selected the Continue Anyway option and SEUS updated the phone.

Since doing so. I've noticed the following (as previously stated):

All video's saved onto the MSM work fine in 3x3 thumbnail view and 5x5 thumbnail view except for when just one video is highlighted. The video is 20 mins long as was taken with the phone using R1ED firmware. The pause was not enough to restart the phone and it would move onto the next one about 5 seconds after pressing the joystick. (This did not happen when updating to R1GB via Wotan)

Animated themes are no longer smoothly animated. Seems like the framerate has slowed slightly.

Phone seems slower overall with a slight delay between button presses.

And for the disbelievers. A video (Taken with a W810i) of proof to back up what I've already said. All videos were installed on the MSM before the R1GB update.
Video also shows what software I have.

@hanugro:
It's weird that SEUS has no Continue Anyway option to re-update to R1GB001. I'll check later when I have my PC with me. I'm still on Opera Mini now. I do always have the Continue Anyway option in the history of my updating via SEUS.

So whether it appear or not depends on the phone firmware?

Hm if your video is taken with K800 then it is not QVGA (240x320) but QCIF. It is dissapointing to see even video preview would slow down on it. I encoded the QVGA 3gp myself using an option that said High Quality QVGA stereo 3gp. The encoder uses Xvid but I don't know exactly the bitrate (cause it is one click option). It does not crash the phone but it is obvious the phone is strugling to video preview it. (I got 9 videos each around 40MB (12mins). When I try to cancel it, it took the phone almost 10 mins to recover.

Hope SE fix this in the next firmware.

Sorry I have no idea whether it appear with my K800 as I am quite sattisfied with my k800 performance. It is the Z610 that also don't have this option. I change it from APAC R1ED to TAIWAN R1EJ CDA with Kulan and tried to see whether SEUS has already got R1GB. It just simply said I have the latest firmware.

@hanugro:
I just managed to try the latest version of SEUS 5 minutes ago with my K800i. After releasing C button and phase of phone detection, SEUS says :
Update not needed. Latest software already installed.
Continue anyway?
Back to Start.

Yes, I updated my K800i to R1GB001 via SEUS with EROM R3A011. SEUS has the Continue Anyway option. It means that my EROM is intact, of original SE. Hm, I don't know why SEUS has no such a Continue anyway option on your phone...is it because of Kulan Kendi 'intervention'?

Just to confirm the message from earlier.
3UK - 3 branded K800i has updates on SEUS

Firmware is now reported as: R1EJ001

I just updated to R1GB001 and I too notice how the previewing of large video files hangs the phone for a little while. The small ones preinstalled on the phone works great though (but I have no use for them ). Btw. What effect does the CID change have? I've heard about it when talking about W800i and such but why was there any need to change it? Also, the EROM version on the phone didn't change.

Any update for T-Mobile UK yet?

Is Macedonian one of the included languages in the firmwares for the K800i? I flashed my phone with the firmware from wotanserver.com , with the Greece/Bulgaria/Balkan R1GB001 which was supposed to have Macedonian, but it doesn't. Very frustrating. If anyone can tell me if it is included in any earlier version firmware???

DO NOT upgrade to the new firm ware..its crap..full of bugs n freeezes your phone every 5 mins. Bluetooth is messed up aswell

and the major downside is that you cant downgrade once you upgrade, so your stuck with a very buggy phone

Just to note that 3 Australia branded K800i can now _finally_ be updated via SEUS:

Seems that you may not upgrade your firmware cleanly. Other than the video preview bug, everything else looks good here. Navigation is faster, bluetooth works OK. Try to reflash again with SEUS. This time took your M2 card out as well (if you have one). I am not sure whether it matter but other third party update recommend it.

Agree, this R1GB001 is a great update made by SE. If still some flaws are found here and there, that's so 'humane'. As long as it can be used to call, text, browse, upload, download, play games and music, run applications, shoot images and communicate via Bluetooth or irDa, and many more it's said as the specifications, all is just wonderful. It's really the time to enjoy the phone's fabulous features rather than get dizzy thinking how to get rid of the bugs here and there. Sure, my phone isn't perfect. I have e.g, flaws in theme performance and risky old EROM, but what can I do? These can be overcome by precautionary measures such as always keeping my phone adequately-charged and revising the theme. IMHO, we will suddenly be shocked as the new successor of K800i is coming and just realise that we have been skipping so many great moments we should have had with the phone. It's time to take a lot of pictures of this Cyber-shot phone and enjoy how excellent the captured moments are. When a new update comes, that's our luck then. If not, that's just fine. Thanks God we still have this phone to play with. OK, it's my holiday here..wanna travel far..

Well hello everyone! Just got aboard! I have a K800i which I upgraded with the R1GB a couple of weeks ago using SEUS. The procedure went fine. Far from those known bugs, I had the folowing problem: some of the java games installed in the phone's memory (I have more than 100 installed I must say) were duplicated! When I deleted the second copy of them and restarted the phone there was no copy of them there. Anyway I reinstalled them except from one of them which was a preinstalled one, and couldn't delete it in the first place. The strange is that when I try to run that game it says that there is not enough memory and that I should delete some file, though all other games can be played and the available memory is more than 20MB. So now I have 2 copies of that which can both not be played! Is there a way to delete them?
And something else concerning my wife's Z610i. I upgraded that to R1GB using SEUS. The procedure went fine, but after that the only available menu language is English (not Greek, Romanian etc like before). I reSEUSed it but that didn't fix the problem. Can anyone please help? Thanx a lot!
And something more that's been mentioned before: although in the K800 white-paper is mentioned that wmv videos are supported it seems that their not (at least in my device), and where is that "mega bass" feature that is mentioned? Is it always "on" with no option to select or is it fake? That's all for the time (I hope!)

let me qualify this a bit: yes bluetooth/IR is usable in flight mode now, but only if you turn on (IR doesnt need to be pre-activated) before trying to send anything. i can't remember the exact details on pre-R1GB001 firmware, but when you try to send a file via more > send > via bluetooth, it goes to tell you "function not available in flight mode". now it just doesnt do anything when you try to send without turning on first. oh well at least we get in flight mode now.

two things i'd like to see in the next fw upgrade (if they do come out with one): (1) say "function not available in flight mode" when sending via without pre-activating; (2) an option to turn off icon animations in the main menu. really gets to me watching the things pulsating like crazy

Salaams,

I thought I posted this but it did not seem to appear.

If you are near Kuwait City, go to the main Barak SE service center. Ask for Wilson Beraga. Tell him Don sent you. He may fix it for free. Do not use WOTAN before you go there. Hope this helps.

Why would you want to use BT on the plane when they all request that you do not use BT devices, mobile phones (some airlines allow this), radio transmitters, etc....?

Posted by jepherberich
i dont not think i used the word "plane" anywhere in that post. and a "plane" isnt the only place where flight mode can be used. i use it in my gym (where there is no signal) to conserve battery by preventing the phone from unnecessarily and perpetually searching for signal that's not there. anyways..

i'm guessing they added and IR support in R1GB because people have been ranting about it. i personally think it's better there as an option than not having it at all. i <3 options

One thing that bother's me & i'd like to see in the next firmware. When you use best pic it should have an option to save all. As i like to save the whole 9 images to view later on my pc then decide which ones i like to keep or not. Anyone else agree that this would be a useful feature?

Im on 3UK, if i install the debrand will i be able to turn off the 3g capability and use a gsmonly option like i could on my nokias? thanks, martin

What I get on my K800i is:
- GSM and 3G
- GSM only
So, you can choose GSM only all the time. BTW, welcome to Esato.

Can you not do that on 3UK anyway? My K800i on Orange UK was rubbish with regard to signal strength when 3g was on. Since I selected GSM only it's now excellent.

Just used SEUS to update to R1GB001 and it's finally stopped me accidentally connecting to the internet by putting a delay on the button. Really pleased with this phone now, much better than my K750. Can even record voice tags through the BT headset. Never could get that to work with the 750.

i have uploaded R1GB into my K800i n i'm very pleased with it as it solves the phonebook search problem i had earlier.
I have installed more than 100 java games on my phone n one fine day ive decided to delee some of it n a very peculiar problem arises.

I have duplicates of java games on my phone now n i find that very annoying !
whenever i highlight one for deletion i always get the same error message - Operation failed !

please help

Posted by aremaboy
Was the update via SEUS or Wotan? Just like EROM damage bug, Operation failed bug happens only to few users. Try to re-update or reflash the phone.

Posted by mart1711
oh right thanks nice to see it will be on the menu. 3UK ALWAYS remove the gsm only option from their fones. mainly because they have no sm masts at all and its only gonna cost them more when you can only reach a gsm signal!!

CID = This "number" defines the version of SE's protection present in the phone.New CIDs are deployed from time to time, for the sole reason of preventing them from beeing unlocked/flashed/tampered with by non-SE service tools. Current CIDs in use by SE are 29/36/37/49. SE-based LG/Sharp phones use the same system (but different versions). The OTP (One Time Programmable memory) and EROM of a phone might be protected by different CIDs, usually the case in newer K600s/K608s.

CDA = This "number" defines which variant of a specific firmware a phone is supposed to have.It lets among others SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) know which language-pack/branding/bandlocks a phone is to be flashed with. A generic (unbranded) K750 for use in Scandinavia will be CDA102337/12, whilst a Telenor-branded K750 will be CDA102338/62. Both will be flashed with the same languages/dictionaries, but the latter will be flashed with Telenor-branded firmware.

BLUE/BROWN/RED:This "color" defines what kind of phone we are dealing with.BLUE phones has been assembled at the factory, but never been programmed with software/GDFS/IMEI (remember kids: the IMEI is stored in the OTP (One Time Programmable memory))BROWN phones are "developer phones", for testing. Less restrictions are present, as these are used for "debugging/beta" purposes. As of CID36, a phone has to be converted to BROWN to unlock it.RED phones are your typical retail ones.

GDFS:This is the phones "stash", where all settings and calibration data is stored (this also goes for the firmwares IMEI-resource as well as the SIMlocks). Similar to other brands use of NVRAM (Non-Viotile Random Access Memory).

IMEI = International Mobile Equipment Identity.A 15-digit number which includes information on the origin, model, and serial number of the device. The model and origin comprise the initial 8-digit portion of the IMEI, known as the "Type Allocation Code/TAC". The remainder of the IMEI is manufacturer-defined, with a "Luhn check digit" at the end (which is never transmitted). The "Luhn check digit" is calculated from the rest of the IMEI.
It should be noted that in SE-based phones, the IMEI is stored in two places, the OTP (One Time Programmable memory) and GDFS. The GDFS IMEI is normally read from the OTP, but this can be circumvented by SETool function to "change" the IMEI. This patches the firmware into allowing different OTP/GDFS IMEIs. It is the GDFS IMEI that is reported to the network, so changing this will "de-bar" blocked phones. SEUS is not fooled by this, on the other hand, and it should also be noted that doing this is illegal in most countries.

EMMA = Service software/solution by SE themselves. Protected by the EMMA smartcard to prevent non-licensed usage. Current version is EMMA3, though EMMA2 is still alive (but kinda useless on newer phones). The EMMA smartcard contains an algorithm that allows EMMA to communicate directly to/with the phones CID, so performing operations the way they were intended. The smartcard and its algorithm has not been cracked. Adding to above post (from Davinci Team forum):

EROM: Extended ROM. This is the base part of the software which isn't flashed in normal update operations. It controls the flashing interface, the boot loader, etc.

Firmware has two parts:
1. FS: It contains languages, images, sounds, animations, settings, etc. Anything that isn't pure software.
2. Main: It contain the software.

And basically SE 'hates' it so much as 3rd party flashers out there do better job than SEUS or SESC. That's why they improve the security to CID 51 but they sell the firmwares to Wotan? Aargh..

I have found a new bug in R1GB001:
If I try to open a link to an RSS feed, either nothing happens, or I gt an error message aying that the file type is not supported by the phone. There is no possibility to copy the URL into the RSS input window. The only way I have found is to write the address down on a paper first.
