just saw in wotanserver that post that wotan for ASIAN FTP is down (supposedly posted 12/28).... hmmm that's wierd coz i've been asking their support this january and they kept on saying that their site and connection are all okay. .... hmmmm now the've posted someting "12/28" to answer that.... i wish i could refund the 2 wotan units i bought

I got the same problem as you. I got 2 wotan credit as well, and could not connect to them. The first time you run wotan client, it search the european FTP site for update. I guess because of the current Internet problem (Taiwan quake) it is not stable. I can only run the client twice (out of maybe 20 tries). The problem is that the european FTP answer but when it transfer a bit the connection is lost then the client will crash. I also can not download firmware file from the european FTP (eagle.wotanserver.com). One time it run until 27% before it stop transfering for hours so I have to cancel it. Once the client running I change to Asian FTP but this one is not available at all (100% dead). Well at least I know I am not alone. Their support is also not good and seems to be denying all the problems. I still have a good faith on them and blame it on the current internet connection as I am from Asia. Well let's just see until the end of the month when the internet recover.
Kulan kendi on the other hand can run and download. However I also got some problem with them because they took a credit but failed to upgrade my firmware. I choose R1EJ HGK for my wife Z610 but after taking the credit my wife Z610 still have R1ED APAC.

Interesting finding here. I play around with Setting - Connectivity - Mobile Network - Search for Network. Well here I choose my provider with the 3g icon (meaning force to choose 3g signal of my provider). Well the 3g signal appear again for few seconds before disappeared again (because I choose automatic in search mode). That prove that 3g signal exist in my home but not very strong.
Well I am not sure it is good or not for the batt consumption. The 3g signal is just 1-2 bar (when it appear) as opposed to 2g signal which is full strenght. Seems that R1GB is putting a minimum threshold when choosing the signal type (2g or 3g).
The question is when (lets say for example in certain area 3g signal is 4 bars while 2g signal is 5 bars) will R1GB still choose 2g over 3g (because 2g signal is stronger)? At what point the 3g will be choosen over 2g? Anybody got the answer. BTW, when I got the 3g icon at the CBD, the signal is full (5 bars). I am afraid that R1GB choose whichever signal is stronger unless it is on par then, at that time only, it will choose 3g. The older firmware maybe choose 3g over 2g in all condition as long as it still get the 3g signal.
This has significant impact on how we call because when 2g signal is stronger than 3g we might have to force (manual) selection for 3g before we can do video call. This is not very convenient at all. Off course this will not affect ppl in good 3g coverage especially in small and advance country like singapore.
Well, enough rant from me, what do you all think?

Well, tonight my wife was driving so I can monitor the k800 signal. My conclusion is that it will choose 3g (ahead of 2g) if 3g signal strength is 3 bars or more.
If however, you are already browsing the wap/net/video-call using 3g, the phone will try to keep 3g as long as it can (1-2 bars still OK) and only switch to 2g when the signal is completely lost.
Well it is not as bad as I first think, and indeed navigation seems a tad faster in R1GB! Cheers!

Other finding on R1GB001:
Very very occassionaly the phone is unable to display the 'green balls of volume' when you press the volume key on the right side of the phone. When you are playing music via Media Player or File Manager, then trying to turn up or down the volume, the phone works normal as intended, BUT very very occassionally fails to display the volume status. It has happened twice on my phone. The only solution to get it back is by restarting the phone. I still don't know how to reproduce this malfunction intentionally, as it is highly intermittent. For most days, this never happens at all.
And about the 'R26:5432' bug or the like seems gone already. It's been 5 days and I didn't encounter it even once.
EDIT: I was wrong. The Rxx:xxxx bug is NOT gone. I just encountered it just now...
Next finding:
The phone has a bug in relation to theme. The phone is now unable to display color correctly, especially in Pop Up image. If you make a theme, and you DON'T insert any image to Pop Up element--it means that you just use the color Theme Creator offers--you will not get the color you want. The color displayed on your phone IS ALWAYS the same as the color on Background part of the Theme Creator. If say, e.g, you put green as Background, then on Pop Up you put yellow, then it's OK on the preview of Theme Creator. BUT, on your phone, you will have green pop up color instead of yellow. This bug doesn't occur if you INSERT an image in it. Believe me, it's NOT the bug of the latest Theme Creator 3.06. My old themes suffering from this bug were even created months ago by using older version of Theme Creator, and they DID display normally on previous firmware. I'll learn this more and post the sample theme later as I'm on Opera Mini now. I invite expert theme makers to prove this. And, correct me if I'm wrong.

An issue I have is I cant send multiple texts on the O2 3G Pay & Go service. You can on contract but not on Pay & Go when using the network setting "3G & GSM" in networks under connectivity.
I think this is more of an O2 3G Pay & Go system issue though rather than a firmware issue.
A complete headache.

Well, I am beginning to think that this may be a combination of R3A011 EROM and firmware rather than just a firmware error. When I am on R3A016 I haven't encounter it after few days usage. Well I only on R1GB for 2 days so let's see what happen.
On my wife Z610 R1ED and R3A016 I encounter it once in three months. Seems that R3A011 is more prone to this error than R3A016. Well, that is just my thinking anyway. Problem with this error is it will be difficult to prove it to SE as this error happen once in a while.
But many ppl report this error already so we may write email to SE support.

Haven't enmcountered this error since I got on R1GB001 last January 3, 2007. Also, my battery life seemed to improve. I used to charge every 2 1/2 days and it has been 4 1/2 days since my last charge but I am still at 43%. Hooray!

Hi all, I just want to ask whether 3gp high quality qualify as high quality mpeg4 that can introduce delay in R1GB? I put few hundred MBs of highq quality 3gp and my phone crawl as soon as I enter the folder. It took 10 mins before my phone can recover and back at standby! I am force to format the M2 card at this moment!

What seems quite comic to me is the fact that I have k800i T-Mobile branded, bought in Czech rep. It has R1CB001 (with that lovely radio whistling), and now, 8.1.2007, SEUS says its most recent version of FW. It seems that only way to go for me is Wotan, but i dont want to lose warranty... is there any way to get branded FW back to the phone later?

I bet SE will 'dismiss' the preview thumbnail feature in the (maybe) upcoming firmware update. It takes too much RAM, (what's the term? The internal memory system) just to preview the megabytes of video. Hm, why didn't they check this before? So, let's not put megabytes video. Just put short video clips under megabytes maybe..

I still got 61MB free phone memory and each video is just around 40MB. I did put around 8-9 of those videos in one folder. Wow, R1GB just huff and puff trying to do video preview or whatever it tries to do. The clock in my phone stop for 4 min. I am tempted to took the batt out but I am afraid of WSOD (even though I got R3A016). FYI, I don't put any video files on the phone. I just love my K800i mostly for camera shots, creating themes and internet, via Netfront or Opera Mini, so I just don't suffer from this bug that seriously. Yeach, hanugro, you should try that--having the movie in each separate folder and post your findings.
Anyway, about the theme bug, I just renewed my themes to compensate for the flaw of R1GB001. I imported images to the Pop Up element and my problem is gone. However, it's a pity that SE has again fixed bugs but created others. Anyway, as long as bugs were minor and can be easily 'endured', it's not the end of the world.

The Sony gallery try to take advantage of the shortage and price the 512MB around 440k. I don't know what make them think they can get away with it because Sony Indonesia clearly said 385k in its web site for 512MB. Funny thing is that there is NO single SE exclusive shop (the one who got authorised SE service centre as well) has ANY stock of M2 card in any capacity.
I got mine not from Sandisk Indonesia (imported by KM) but this is BM import for 500k and 1 yr warranty (like all BM do). I checked the packaging and the prints in the M2 card and it looks good. So far so good and it come with MS duo adapter. Speed wise seems comparable to Sony 64MB M2 card that come with the phone. I think every brand may have fake but usually they fake the premium brand to get better profit (Sony, Sandisk Ultra, Lexar Pro). The Sandisk one is plain one (not ultra class)
As for video file I use List so I could get around the bug. It plays just fine. I couldn't stand the quality of normal 3gp video!

What I know PS is Packet Service, meaning GPRS, which charges you for each kilobyte you use, while CS is Circuit Switched, meaning it charges for how long you use internet. PS is using IP address while CS dial up number. PS is faster than CS and in some cases is cheaper. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Update on R1GB 3g signal. Today I saw 3g signal with 2 bars. Seems that it needs 3 bar to switch from 2g to 3g and then after that it will try to maintain 3g until the signal is too low/lost. Up to now R1GB still decide that 3g signal in my house is too low for it to switch from 2g
@Indo esato member. www.sony.co.id has the price list for 512MB m2 which is 385k and 1GB M2 which is 550k (as of few days ago when I checked it). This is indeed the price that is used by all Sony and SE showroom when stock is plenty. Few weeks before christmas all M2 card seems to dissapear (as SE also start bundling 256MB M2 with k800) and few places that has stock of 512MB M2 quote the price for 440k (sableng) One shop at Tmn Anggrek quote 320k for 256MB M2. This is for genuine and Sony Indo warranty M2 card. Well I think you can expect differences between 10-15% less price (from Sony Indo price) for BM/PI stuff as they seldom pay tax. But if you got more than 20% less than Sony Indo price list then you must be carefull. Anyway as some said in this forum, I also don't mind fake as long as it has same quality and lower price
. Because sometime we also pay for the brand if we buy Sony (not only for the cost of manufacture+profit).

R1GB001 is available for o2 as well now I see.
There certainly is an issue with freezing when trying to play a high quality encoded video - it wont play and virtually crashes you're K800i into an inoperable state. The K800i seems to go back to normal after approx 15 seconds, if you leave it.

O2 (UK) Firmware is not available for my CDA102511/41 phone - R1ED001 is still the latest.
Could O2 UK users who have sucesfully updated their phones let me know what their CDAs are. I am finding it strange that a couple of people have claimed a succesful update with an O2 UK phone, which should be CDA102511/41. CDA information can be retrieved from the Service Menu - see the first post for details.
