Hi,
I've had my K800i replaced, the previous one refused to start up and had a distinct smell of burning in the battery compartment (!).
I've a couple of quick questions with the new one, hope someone can help.
- How do I reassign the 'world' key (the small one just between the 'back' button and the left select button), I recall on my old phone I stopped it launching the browser, but can't find out how I did it. It's not an option in the 'shortcuts' menu any longer that I can see.
- When I connect my phone to my PC, I get the 'File' and 'PC Connection' icons to select from but I also get something about printing. I don't remember this before??

The key calls the page specified as start page in your web browser. You can either assign another page from the bookmarks menu, or go options/communication/internet/internet profiles/, select your profile and Menu/advanced/change start page

That is a new feature that was introduced in one of the newest firmware versions. Your new phone probably has a newer firmware version than your old one had. The option is for printouts directly from the phone to a printer that supports this feature (PictBridge)

I've found that in a german site:
R1EG001 changelog for k800i:
* Storage of photos takes place faster
* New: Installationswizard for Internet settings
* Internet key starts adjusted homepage
* Phone Book ADDRESS of profiles (PBAP) v1.0 implemented
* performance improves
* caller identification bug fixed
I can't verify that, because I have R1ED001...
I've also read that the newest version is R1EL002.. no changelog for that..

OK Thanks but it's gonna be released is the most important question now?

damn you and your updates. I'm still on the original firmware. 3 Australia isn't allowing updates of their phone's yet. Their official response to me was 'We aren't allowed to release any information on this topic'.
So feel lucky that you were able to update the firmware on your phone...

Hey, is that via SEUS, Wotan, or service centre that you get R1GB? Tell us.
Posted by twwong
I think the R1GB improve / fix the USB. When with R1EJ when connect to USB when choose file, the phone will restart and choose again.
I notice the R1GB:
- Photo key: when press first time, it doesn't switch mode. it's stay at the last selected.
- Speed dial appear at Settings, Call
- Memory status: Games & Programs fix
- Contacts search fix
Posted by aremaboy
Well, nobody is willing to share whether R1GB001 is acquired via SEUS, Wotan, Davinci, service centre or it's preloaded in new batch K800i..
Posted by andre_cool
is seus releasing new firmwares aside from the R1ED?
Posted by Rookwise
Have just tried my unbranded K800 with SEUS but it says no new firmware available so I guess its still R1ED001
Very tempted to use Wotan again but would prefer to use SEUS myself for the next update
Posted by jepherberich
@sleby: can you post the complete information (key sequence is: > * < < * < * and then go to Service info > Software info) and list down everything, like what jkbcheng did
I won't be updating until there's improvements on the camera software. I'm still at R1ED001 and cam version 2.5
It noticed that while ive been getting white screens + restarts with R1ED001, it still feel more responsive than R1J

This has been mentioned before, but SEUS is not offering this update yet, so the first page is correct.
I will check my wife's K800 on 3-UK later to see if this update is available yet, it has been for the K610 on 3-UK for a long, long time now.

@axilom
where did you upgrade phone? from seus server?
Posted by twwong
i think R1GE is not release yet. Service Centre do not have it.
Posted by andre_cool
ah ic ic...cant wait to upgrade the firmware
Posted by jepherberich
@andre_cool
My silver K800 came with the R1J, but I wanted to get rid of the James Bond content and reflashed via davinciteam. The latest that they have is R1E so I settled with that. I'm only interested in the camera improvements, so if it's not broken, don't fix it.

i got my phone upgraded on service, because seus said i had the latest version (r1cb001).
software info:

and yes.. phone still restarts when you select file transfer mode:-|

Please note: If you remove 3's branding some services will not work as you will no longer have their certificates in the phone. I believe the free MSN messenger client on 3-UK for example will not run on an unbranded phone.

Aha, I see now. R1EJ, R1EG, R1GB...For K800i, SE releases so many variations. We won't never know which firmware will be finally out on SEUS server. Seeing the improvements, it's likely that R1GB001 is the one. But Wotan doesn't have it yet..or it does now? It means, it's another long wait then..usually SEUS update comes months after Wotan release. Hm, I don't know their thought pattern anyway...

what are the comments on the R1GB?

Hey Aremaboy. I can understand your annoyance but the fact is, the k800i in phone years is a bit old. SE is probably, and rightfully so, concerned not with an old phone but with the new models and the with the competition. With the coming release of the Apple iPhone (name not official yet), SE will have a real competitor on its hand. We may see one more F/W release for the k800i but I would not bet on it. This is standard fair. 3 or 4 F/W releases and then move on. Sorry my friend but the k800i is old news. I am unloading mine as soon as the iPhone comes out.
Posted by hanugro
I don't mind no more firmware as long as it is 99.99% bugfree. There are still some issues with R1ED so I hope SEUS will not stop there!

Added R1GB001 to the first post
Posted by bronxdude
i found bug for R1ED
after i have deleted the "greeting" tone in the music player then i close it. but once i opened it again, its there

wondering when will wotan release the new FW
Posted by sapporobaby
Did you know the first post of this thread was on: 06-24-2006? That makes the k800i almost 6 months old, and as I stated earlier this is ancient in phone years. The k800i is old, old, old. SE does not have the resources or time to continue with upgrades to old products. Personally, I hope they don't issue anymore and they simply let the k800i move into the land of obscurity. As harsh as it may sound, those that can purchase the newer devices will and those that can't will have to live with what they have. In its day, the k800i was the phone to have but now it is just another great but outdated phone. The iPhone, if it arrives, will surely outperform the k800i (unless they do not put a camera on it, and most people do not use the camera anyway), as will the newer offerings from Nokia, Samsung and the rest.
RIP k800i

In its days? Outdated?
You're a funny little fellow, aren't you
Posted by sapporobaby
I cordially invite you to prove me incorrect. The k800i is more than 6 months old. This is an eternity in phone years. As I stated, in its day, the k800i was unbeatable, but the constant wanting of more and more f/w upgrades is a waste of SE's time. They will really have to compete once the iPhone hits the market as this will spur competitors to be more and more innovative. If SE is smart, and I am not sure that they are, they will cease with the k800i upgrades and look towards the future. The k800i had its day. It is an old phone, that was at the top of the game when it came out but now it is just an also ran.
If you call 6'3", 220 little then I guess you are correct.

How on earth do you know that the iPhone will be great at all? It's not announced and unless your a big fan of Apple I don't see how you can make bold claims that it will dent Sony Ericsson's sales and force them to get "better". The iPhone doesn't excist so stop comparing things to it!
Posted by sapporobaby
@escobar,
Well, I will stop right away because you told me to do so. I will follow all of your directions.
Fact: If the iPhone has just half the uptake as the iPod did, does, and continues to do, it will make a market impact that SE has never achieved.
Fact: If the iPhone, like the iPod provides its users with a great interface and the ability to load and unload songs as simply as the iPod does, SE will have a big problem on its hands because the bundles software is nothing less than crap.
Fact: How many iPods out there and how many SE phones? Go do the math Einstein.
Nothing you said or probably will say will be of any consequence so please disappear back into obscurity and venture out only when you have something of value to say.
The fact remains that the k800i was a great phone, but it is now an old phone and SE will stop supporting it soon. This is inevitable. Circle of life and all that.
@Aremaboy: Sorry but that is the way it is. Either purchase the hot next thing or live with the old. Product cycle dude.
