K800 Firmware Overview

I have added the MP3 play issue to the first post. I have, however, included Jangler, Alien Noise and Pulse MP3s, but I notice that many people are suggesting just two of these do not work. As I haven't got this firmweare at the moment if someone could let me know I would be most grateful.

@pmk

@PMK

There is nothing wrong with your phone.

It just means E-Plus has yet to approve of th new update.

Even though your phone is unlocked and allows other networks it still has the E-Plus Software on.

Hope this helps

@mwarner:
One of my 'hobbys' is collecting almost all SE official content. Whenever compatible to my K800i, I just put them. The 3rd tone, Pulse, is there in my Music folder--I made a subfolder 'Alert tones' along with the other two, Alien Noise and Jangler, which are K800i official tones. When I posted before, I didn't remember for sure from which phone Pulse officially belongs to, so I only posted the link to Alien Noise and Jangler. You know, many files are accumulated there in my sub-folder, and the fact that I'm using Opera Mini at that time and ATM makes me hard to even upload them to, say, rapidshare or megaupload. Then I just 'typed' the link I remembered..Anyway, I have edited my post.

The most crucial thing is that IMHO these 3 alert tones are just samples, which I ACCIDENTALLY found out. I'm just 'lucky' to come across such files. However, there hasn't been any generalisation about which MP3 files suffers from this 'encoding failure' as I'm blank in this audio stuff. I call for experts here to analyse this phenomenon. E.g. in which bitrate does it occur? In which setting? etc. It may lead to 'bigger' issue about audio setting. I'm currently on my holiday during Eid-al fitr, and the real internet connection is beyond my reach. I'll be happier if someone else can post the direct links to the 3 samples of troublesome mp3 so that less 'painful' effort can be done. And please, experts, help us analyse these. It's not a matter that I like these 3 tones, not--it's not, but I begin to think something 'fishy' in the audio setting in R1ED001. I simply could just delete these 3 tones and my phone works OK, but it's not the case. It's a matter of my curiosity and demand a logical answer of why such a thing occurs but it simply DID NOT before. Is this an improvement or even a drawback? Please understand, and help. Thanks.

Just to check, there a FW available yet for T-Mobile UK? I'd do it but not at home at the moment, haven't got the cable =/

Thanks in advance.

I do not understand this... In R1ED001 and R1CB001 the bookmarks in the bookmarks submenu first, but after the first use it is under the Internet section directly. It was the same in every version, it is not a new improvement...

yeah this is also the case for me.. didn't notice that before.. but if you look in the bookmarks submenu do you also find your bookmarks there?

It looks like recent used bookmarks in top level, all bookmarks in submenu.

A couple of things I've noticed on R1EG001 are:

When a reminded goes of... eg. someones birthday, you have to press ok twice.

The shortcut bug where when you switch the phone off it goes back to the music player still hasnt been fixed.

I updated with Wotan, I'm not sure if this makes any difference.

Even though my skills in spanish is limited to "una cerveza grande, por favor" and a few other phrases, I think @jucame and I was saying about the same thing, "isn't this forum supposed to be in english?" with the meaning that not all other people understand our native languages, so please, stick to english. (@jucame: I apoligize if it isn't spanish)

Added a functionality change section to R1ED001 in the first post.

Posted by tomchadwin
Minor change in R1ED (just upgraded on O2 UK via SEUS): video now pauses and blanks out when you change it from portrait to landscape.

Apologies for asking this here, but I couldn't find the best place for information. My handset's earpiece speaker has suddenly stopped working. Handsfree is still fine, and the external speaker seems fine. This happened before I upgraded, and is still not working on R1ED. I know some others have experienced this, but has anyone found a solution?

I also saw a red LED flash in the infrared briefly yesterday, in amongst all my testing to try to get things to work again. Did I read somewhere that this can indicate the EROM problem? I have seen no other symptoms of this (no WSOD etc).

Can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks

Tom

Posted by Xugaa
Ok thanks, looks like I'll upgrade the firmware via SEUS soon.

Does anyone know how I can get get my phone back to O2 branding? Can I do this via Da Vinci?

A SEUS update, which you may only be able to do when the next firmware is released, should revert it back to O2 branding if the CDA hasn't been changed.

Having said that I can't see why you would want an O2 branded phone above an unbranded phone. Admittedly O2's branding is very light (especially compared with companies like Vodafone), but a totally unbranded phone is better than having one with service provider customisation IMHO.

Hi.
Im trying to update to the latest with my Orange K800, as im having a few problems with the call lists. But its not letting me update.
Im currently on firmware R1CB001, but i know thats not the latest! So why cant i update?

Posted by mwarner
Look at the first post. Apart from Voda and O2 no UK mobile updates to R1ED yet.

Posted by boomam
Thats a shame.
Is there any ETA for Orange firmware availability?

Posted by presto
Checked 26/10/2006 for T-Mobile UK update. Result: NO UPDATE

Posted by darrengf
@boomam and presto

T-Mobile and Orange are the slowest of all the networks to auth the software to be updated.

Im sorry to sy that you could both be waiting another month and then again the networks don't even have to approve the firmware any way.

It will also be no good ringing the networks because they havnt got a clue what you will be talking about and then blame SE like they always do.

The only thing i can say is either debrand the phone or just keep trying to update.

I know this is not what you want to hear but its the only answer currenlty there is.

I Luv the Orange network, but hate there branding this is why i would rather pay for a sim free model

Posted by Red_Rach
@ mwarner

The only reason I ask about getting the O2 firmware back is because I'm considering sending my phone back as the joystick problem I am having is becoming annoying. I'm worried they'll refuse it if I send it back as it is.

Posted by farkasg
Have anyone of you in the UK ever tried to take your phone with T-Mobile branding to a SE Service Center? The SEUS and Wotan isn't the only solution, but definitely the most convenient.
I don't live in UK, but Hungary and I've got T-Mobile phone. Last week I've updated my phone to R1ED001 in a SC, but on SEUS still no T-Mobile branded R1ED001. So I don't think T-Mobile haven't accepted the R1ED001, but SE didn't put on their SEUS server.

Posted by sapporobaby
@farkasg,

Wotan or DaVinci are the only options to un-brand your phone if this is what you mean. A certified dealer or svc point will not do it. They are legally bound to leave the branding in place.

I know that de-branding isn't done in Service Centers..

I've reflected to this quoted post and previous ones about that R1ED001 isn't available on SEUS for T-Mobile and other branded phones..

@farkasg,

My bad, Did not know you were pointing to another post.

As far as I am aware there are no longer any service centres in the UK - at least that was what my local Service Centre (which was in Coventry) told me when it stopped providing shop-level support for firmware updates.
I would be interested to hear if this is indeed the case. The Coventry branch shut down roughly when I got my K700 - i.e. 2.5 years ago.

CPW are service centers for sony eriscsson and still update the SE Firmwares for you.

Hope this helps

Yes, this was probably not the best place. Try the general section next time, or perhaps the technical section.

About the handsfree, the problem can simply be that it's broken. Check that the cable is intact, for example. I hardly think it's firmware related anyway. Have you tried it with another phone? Have you tried another handsfree on your phone?

About the red LED, I haven't noticed that on my K800i yet, but on many other models, there is a red LED in the IR port that starts glowing/blinking on low battery level, my K700i did that, for example. Earlier Ericsson models had a green LED that was blinking when the network was available, and it turned red on low battery level.

Posted by tomchadwin
@altemyr

Thanks for the reply. I posted it here because I had a suspicion it might be relating to the EROM issue, as I had seen mention of the red LED in conjunction with that problem. Anyway, thanks for the info about the LED probably indicating low battery, which probably rules it out as an EROM bug. Warranty repair, methinks.

Hy, for everyone who wants to know. I just updated my vodafone branded k800i with SEUS. I'm from holland. So its finally there.

O, I forgot to say its on R1ED001 now

Has anyone with a UK Vodafone branded k800 successfully upgraded to R1ED001?

Posted by frakker
@freestyle

Yup, done it via Wotanserver when it first became available. Also update the EROM as well on my Vodafone branded K800i.

does anyone have any picture corruption when transferring pictures from the phone to the PC. Like when I view the picture in my phone it looks fine but when I transfer the picture it becomes misplaced, sort of like a jigsaw puzzle. This only happens with some pictures but it's still annoying nonetheless.
