HI I just joined ESATO...I have been reading through all the posts regularly. I have upgraded from a T610 to a K800i....been using it for a month now...Very happy....BUt then as they say pride goes before a fall!
I did the most stupid thing to upgrade the firmware of my phone K800i to R1ED001 060831 via SEUS.........All went well except now I have all the games and applications reinstalled and locked. I have 2 copies of all the applications/games and they dont start -> says operation failed. Neither can I remove them. Any help guys? Now I have the radio hiss also. Is there a way to go back to the older version? I feel pity on myself for f***in up my beautiful phone! AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaa! Please help me out here!

barring a reflash at a service centre, i'd say try reflashing your phone via wotanserver. it costs 1 euro but works quite well, plus up get the updated EROM too.

i dont know if anyone else has asked SE themselves but i did and i got this in reply:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Call Centre.

With regards to your enquiry, the new firmware version for the Sony Ericsson K800i is due to be released, however, we have no date yet as to when this will be available to UK users, however, the release date is imminenet.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again for further help and support.

so it will be released fairly soon, great news.

@redsheep: Silly question maybe, but did you install the USB drivers from the Wotan site?

Upgraded mine last week and very happy with my now unbranded software!

Exactly. A ref to the city in Japan. No Asian heritage but I liked the name. Good thing I did not use "IO" or "Phobos"?

Yes, this has always been the case.

When a bug gets fixed from a previous firmware I put it in the 'bug fixes' section. If it's not in there wither it hasn't been fixed or no-one has tested for a fix yet.

but it worked on the previous generation ala k750i and now doesn't work on k790/800 that's a SUPER BUG lol!!

another 2 things i've noticed.

sometimes the volume side keys don't work after a while..

and the phone goes into sleep mode for no apparent reason sometimes when i'm doing soemthing on the phone like sms

No. The city yes. The beer no.

I have strange names for my devices:

Mac = Beyond the Infinite
k800i= Calisto
M600i = Phobos
iPod = Red Shift

The list goes on. Anyway, she was named after the city.

is there any risk of having ED001 with the old EROM (R3A011) ? Should I use Wotan to update the EROM as well ?

Posted by senninha
there are many people who updated their firmware via SEUS, which does not update the EROM. many of them do not seem to be experiencing any serious problems as a result, so you should do just fine without the EROM update.

unless, of course, you encounter problems powering on the phone. that is what the EROM update addresses.

this one sounds like a hardware defect... does it freeze for no reason as well?

Posted by aremaboy
Don't worry about this EROM thing. SEUS is official, and it's a fact that such an EROM upgrade isn't needed ATM, so..why bothers? My K800i has this 'old' EROM and it works just perfectly...don't worry, mates! Anyway where is our fellow named 'darrengf'? He introduced us with this EROM stuff few pages back, didn't he? After R1ED001 is out, he never appeared..hm, how are you, friend?

I thought he'd said he would be on holiday for a few weeks so would help people as much as possible before he went (and presumably will continue when he ruturns). Can't find it though so might just be imagining it. Anyone else remember that?

yeah it does freeze at times... though its quite rare. maybe once in a while

I echo this. Funny thing was my phone never did it for it's first few months, now suddenly the screen will flash to stand-by without warning. Pressing a key resumes whatever I was up to.

Admittedly, I have not updated my firmware, so there is a likelyhood that it has been solved, but a problem shared is a problem halved!

On previous models, like k700, recommended a fully charged battery when updating fw from SEUS using the special table stand, but when you use the DCU-60 cable, I'm not quite sure it's necessary, since that cable normally also charges the phone. But to be on the safe side, I would still recommend to charge the phone before you make the update.

always have 80% or more

what the erom is from "the_laser" himself

q: what is "erom upgrade" for db2020 phones (k610/v630/k790/k800/w850) and how to use it?

a:
semc gone crazy with security in db2020 phones, so if anything secure damaged (as they thinks) - EROM not starts phone and phone is completely dead.

in early EROM releases (R3A011 versions) SEMCsec developer done some error, because of that EROM sometimes can't setup GDFS good.

we will see it as RED BLINK during phone power on. and as "gdfs startup error:29" when we trying to flash it.

SEMCsec released then EROM updater, which is upgrade known EROM to new version. that new version solves red blink error (of course, if security units intact). i decided that it is not fair to keep that loader only for emma, so it is embedded in setool2 from now on.

usage is very simple.
select correct db2020 model.
check "use server" in settings (credits will NOT be deducted)
connect phone to COM/UFS cable (USB will NOT work)
press RECOVERY

EROM will be upgraded and your problems CAN be solved.

sadly, SEMCsec not released anything to correct problem, when security units or gdfs totally damaged. they fear of illegal usage

BTW, I updated my K800 from within the phone update service. Whole download (via 3g) and update process took about 30 minutes. While I was driving home from the work. Software installation took most of the time - phone restarted twice. Now works as good as before. The only think I really wished to become better was mp3 palyback volume and it indeed became after update. In general usage I didn't experience any problems even before update. Of course You don' t need battery to be charged by 100%. By my experience 50% charged is far enough.

peace

Well Im back did any one miss me.

Dont all shout at once.

Oh and my holiday was Gr8.

SE are very very popular in Greece, infact very pop indeed

Any way I have been quickly going through the thread and noticed my name mention a couple of times. (bless me)

But to answer one of the questions i know that is being asked and thi is EROM.

Now i have a done a little checking as ive only been back in the country a few hours, but the EROM still cant be performed through the SEUS. The EROM can still only be updated via the service centers or Wotan.

SEUS placed the update on so a few of the known faults would be fixed and resolve some of the peoples problems.

Regards the WSOD. The EROM is the fault and this would need to be updated.

Now please dont shout at me if this is not fully uptodate. But i will try and find out more when i know it.

When I got mine 2 months ago, R1BC001,surely I got frequent WSOD. But then I took off the battery for at least 1-6 hours. I did it on regular basis ONLY after mine is 100% fully-charged. Believe it or not, no WSOD happened afterwards. When SEUS released R1ED001, I noticed that WSOD never happened up to now although I don't do the battery 'out' the phone so often. Also, when turning off and on my K800i, I noticed NO MORE WSOD, the screen just displays the logo and then 'off'. Before, in R1BC, I always saw this white flash before the screen shuts down. During navigation, I've never got any single WS0D at all ever since my update to R1ED. So, in what occassion will this EROM affect the phone? During charging, USB plug-in, file transfer, or turning on-off, never do I got this WSOD or red-blinking at all. All just went OK. Or any combination action that could possibly lead to it?
And about many events of 'operation failed' when accessing Applications and Games folders, is it also EROM-related? The big issue is why didn't ALL people experience incidents with this EROM-related stuff? Some did, some didn't. I guess, there's an 'X' imfetus factor. May be those affected have charged the phone when it's almost 100% dried-up or might unplug the charger while opening Java apps? Or taking out the battery too immediately when facing 'frozen menu' or else.. and the fact that SE releases R1ED001 without EROM upgrade must be well-thought, and intended, right? SE won't harm its users in case this EROM stuff affect the life of the phone..
So, personally, the best way is: just enjoy this handsome phone! Why bothers as no top problems we have so far? This R1ED001 is just awesome...really great. Or Am I just lucky? Correct me if I'm wrong. Perhaps, a friend of mine was correct when he said 'buy the phone a year after the release as it is stable already'..
I'm sure the new owners of new-batch K800i will never be 'dizzier' about this EROM-GDFS 'conflict'..lol..

[ This Message was edited by: aremaboy on 2006-10-18 22:36 ]

Posted by darrengf
The WSOD is caused by a the GDFS (Phones own instructions)

When you plug the phone into the charger the GDFS tells the screen to come on, show chaging and do what it needs to. This is the same for everything and anything you plug in, Switch on / switch of etc.

However the GDFS and EROM seem not to like each other, or and not truely compatible. However from you removing the battery and doing what you have done, you may have saved your own phone.

Wha you hav been doing was issued to service centers as a Temp fix, before the EROM was issued.

Wow, still no update. Been away for a few days and was certain SEUS would have been updated by the time I'd got back. Obviously not. Oh well, what's a few more days, weeks, months!

Just upgraded from Orange firmware to R1EG001 via Wotan.

Previously, email couldn't be sent via Orange's smtp server with a non-Orange from address, apparently because the email client always wanted to authenticate with the server even though no username or password.

With this firmware, I can.

Also there were a few irritances with Opera Mini before which are gone now (always wanting to write in ALLCAPS and no Sentence Case; couldn't use Google search on homepage because softkey options to allow internet connections would be disabled).

Not if you don't want the vanilla SE firmware. I prefer the Voda branding and don't want to lose it. So I'll patiently wait for an update. As it is I don't have any problems that stop me using it on a daily basis so I'll just wait. No rush here...

This morning I have updated my phone to R1ED001 straight from my K800 and am now very sossry that I've done it since I cant make/answer calls anymore. When I try to make calls I can only hear the two tone sound which attributes to no network coverage. SMS may be send/received but sometimes an icon saying "no network connection, try again" pops-up when I try to send sms. When I receive calls I can her the ring and see who is calling me but when I press "answer" nothing happens, but when I press busy it sends busy signal. PLEASE HELP as I am really frustrated with this...

From R1C*, Orange version.

Possibly these issues were already fixed in R1ED but I've seen no specific mention of fixes to SMTP authentication or text input in Java apps.

Posted by mephisto2k
JAVA text input has been mentioned as fixed...

It's listed on the front page under bug fixes for R1ED001 :

- Java applications can now switch between Aa, A and a rather than just A and a.

HA!, I have a k790a with firmware R1EG001 and this bug hasn't been fixed, I'm thinking that the firmwares are not equivalent. Can anyone else confirm this? I tried it using Google local.

Wow! I have never met anyone who actually WANTS the vodafone branding before!?!? Are you sure you are feeling ok!? (just joking )

Posted by [CC]RebelsAd
I had the Vodafone branding and hated it so used Wotan to debrand. I didnt realise that Vodafone also added the Green and Red phone keys as part of the branding and losing this took a lot of getting used to. Those keys are all that i would have kept of the branding. If anybody knows of a way of restoring them without the rest of the rubbish let me know.

Just a quick question, I have SE K800 will updating my software via wotan invalidate my warranty? Or will it be same as if I'd updated using SEUS?

My understanding is that an update via Wotanserver would invalidate the warranty as it isn't an official SE service (whereas a SEUS one obviously wouldn't). Of course whether SE would be too strict in sticking to this if you had a problem with your phone is perhaps a different matter.
