This "bug" is well known by now. It happened before to a lot of K750i users and it will probably happen again.
The English language file seems to be on the phone, no matter what software you use. Somehow it seems to be a "backup language", so that even if everything having to do with language files fails, you still can use the phone.
The only thing that might help is to do a master reset and then redo the SEUS update, at least as far as i know.
It might even be that you have to do this 10+ times...
Last time it happened to me i had to reset and update (SEUS) it 8 times until i had my original languages back.
But you should know that some of the preinstalled items will be lost after a master reset, some will remain...

Don't ask me WHY this happens from time to time when updating via SEUS. I absolutely don't know. I just know that it happens for sure.

BTW: There is no way he could have flashed his phone via WOTAN or davinci without getting an error and ended up with only english language.
Unless there was an error during the flashing process.

is it true that i need to do the master resit and redo the SEUS update services to get that other languages back?

one more thing, i checked the software info, only the first 3 lines changed. All the EROM, LCD SWversion, Camera SW versions, etc, is the same as before. Even the CDA is still R1CB001. Any ideas why?

Posted by chadiwrx
Ok i found another change after flashing from R1CB001 to R1ED001.
On the R1CB001 i could set images that are larger than 1mb as a wallpaper or screensaver. Now with R1ED001 the image files have to be less than 1mb. This really sucks as i have some animated images that i liked using as my screensaver.

Hello To All

Can anyone tell me please that how the k790 mp3 player is.Is it loud thru the external speaker and yes ofcourse how is the quality with the headphones .

My k750 is dead and i am planning to buy a new k750.Should i go for it or else buy k790i.

I take many of photographs and listen to music very much .My k750 was a great mp3 player and a camera as I applied patches thru far manager.I know far manager is not supported by k790.

But any comparison how does the mp3 sounds on a k790.Is it good than k750.

Cheers

Posted by baste07
i'm guessing that the quality of k790 is same with k800 (as a music player)

if so then i have no complaints of the quality of the k800 as a music players compared with the k750 (which was my earlier phone).

although it doesn't have megabass which the k750 has. but not really an issue for me

After updating to R1ED, the "internet button" don't work!!
Is there an option for itt??
or does anyone else got this problem?

Posted by ghostfreak
Hold the button down for a few seconds and it should be fine

Posted by baste07
yeah. with the new fw you have to hold the button a bit longer then usual (older fw)

Well, after having som problems with my java programs I used the Wotan firm. First of all it delete everything on my phone. Contacts and picstures. I dont know if this is normal. But I took a copy of the phonebook for 3 days ago and saved it on the memory stick. Talk about luck!!!

But there is a big diffrents in the sound on SEUS and Wotan. Wotan is still as bad as in the old firmware. So I "upgraded" again to the SEUS firmware.

Now its normal again. But I dont have to hold the internet button for 2 sec to open.

Argh..

Firmware: R1ED001
EROM: R3A016

Posted by baste07
how bad is the sound difference is with the FW from wotan vs seus?

Posted by Vercetti
Hmm I'm wondering when R1EG001 wil be online at SEUS hope soon.. damn SE fix the low volume sound that's all i'm asking you.

Upgrading to new firmware will totally wipe your phone of everything that has been saved on it.
Backing up on the memory card is the safest route

i usually back my files ni MPE. pretty convenient. although sometimes the FW upgrade doesn't wipe out he phone (for my k750 it didn't delete my phone files) but in my k800 it did.

Posted by obentou
MPE doesn't even work for my K790i. I can never get it to work.. Only some functions of it "work". Most of the time, the syncing (ie. backing up contacts, SMS, etc.) gives me some OBEX interface error. And I was using the correct COM port too.

I dont think Wotan have upgraded the sound in the new firmware release. But that is just my (and my ears) appionen

Posted by baste07
yeah, haven't really notice any difference.. or anything wrong for that matter with the sound. but maybe its jsut me, not really an officianado on sound but i am contented with ti right now

i can't remember for sure but i think this happened to me too. try uninstalling MPE and installing it again. also try transfering to another usb port might work for you

@o166

From what Snickersz says, you may have to flash again and again until you get it straight. It was my understanding from SE that their software SEUS only reads the CDA and determines the language pack to send down to the phone. I would guess that there was a flashing error with the phone. I checked this from my friends at the SE svc ctr and they said anything is possible but highly unlikely. They also said that the SEUS might not let you flash again because it will see that you have the latest software. In the end you might need to go to Wotan and flash through them.

Posted by sapporobaby
@radiomanic,

In regards to the sound. Officially SE says nothing, but unofficially they are taking preemptive action. If you remember a few months ago, Apple got sued because several iPod users were a bit too dumb to turn down the volume in their iPods. Sooo Apple issued a firmware upgrade that limited the volume and they issued instructions on how to properly listen to music. SE is doing the same thing but without the lawsuit. After reading several posts here from certain individuals, it is obvious that limiting the volume was a smart decision as some people are "challenged" by their phones. Don't look for a volume increase any time soon.

Another little change in R1ED001 firmware

When you mark a email to be deleted a small bin appears in the lower right corner of the envelope. In the former firmware an X appeared

Posted by blunden
I can't find any negative about the new firmware. I love the speed of the phone now. It was okay before but now it's very nice, feels like when you reformat and install a clean OS.

Posted by Red_Rach
The other day I updated my phone to R1EG001. However I've heard this isnt an update for the K800i but for the K750i? Is this true and will it make any difference?

Read the first post

I have, is it for both?!?

Posted by ghostfreak
If it was for the k750i, then it wouldn't go on a k790/k800i.

No, they have not. But they happen, just by a coincidence, to have the same revision state, i.e. version number.
The "name" is something like "Firmware for Wilma/K800i", the product number is CXC1250210 and the revision is Rxxxx (for the K800)

Exactly but I did not want to point this out because I would be accused of picking on the poor misguided chap.

Other findings on R1ED001:
Set an animated .gif wallpaper or a theme with animated standby. Set Applications as a shortcut in Activity Menu. Go to standby, press Activity Menu button, select Applications. Then, you have to wait for several seconds before it shows you the apps. It's not a bug, just how the system loads Java apps in 'longer time'. With still .jpg or .png non-animated wallpaper, the delay doesn't occur. It loads just a second..

EDIT: The delay is around 8-10 secs which I think depends on the size of the .gif file. The bigger the longer the delay is. Anyway, to avoid this prolonged loading, just press the Activity Menu button once again, and..wow...it suddenly shows you all apps saved in your folder without this 8-10 second delay anymore. Any opinion?

thanks mate.. sarpy baby is loving you =)

that gave me additional info. although for simple commoners like me the name is what we know. with that we are more knowledgeable.

so should we get this CX..... in the front page then? since its the complete firmware? or can we jsut live with what's currently there and assume when people ask they mean that?

thanks mate

@baste07

While your idea may have its merits, I think it would give too much info that would be something else to confuse a sometimes already confusing issue.

What might be a good idea is to have Aremaboy start a thread dealing with either bugs or improvements. This current thread is slowing becoming larger and larger and mwarner has to sift through the chaff to find the info that needs posting. Just a though. Maybe you could help Aremaboy as you seem to be a bug hunter and this is a useful talent.

Contrary to sapporobaby, who is getting to be polite with people, you are so annoying and rude with others!

Why don't you use PM to f.ck with others?

Actually I am not getting more polite, I am simply trying to help out as I see many are having problems here. I just tend to be very blunt. It is the engineer in me I guess. Luckily I have close SE friends that fix my screw ups so I don't have to ask for help generally. However, with our friend here, I decided I will not take his utterances, but will simply expose a lack of understanding. In most cases this would be enough but some people don't learn.

Anyway, glad you decided to hang around.

Hello

Would appreciate your help on this matter if possible, would really help me.

Right.. I bought the Sony Ericsson K800i the other day on contract with O2, I live in the UK and am having great difficulty. You all know the symptons, basically the bastard is doing my head in and I've been trying since half 3 to upgrade the firmware; but to no avail.

I've been using SEUS all day, keeps saying "You currently have the most updated firmware installed" - when I don't...

I want to get this fixed for tonight if possible, I hate the god damn noise when listening to the radio and its irritating.

Could someone please leave responces in helping me or please add me on msn and we can discuss/talk about it...

Would really appreciate your generous help.

Lots of love xx

Hi Stokes

SE haven't yet released either the generic or the branded updates for UK phones onto SEUS yet - that's why it's giving you the message about having the latest firmware.

If you can wait then I'd hope it was out in the next week or so. If you really want it urgently then you can use Wotan Server - it'll cost you €7 though to use their service.

Cheers

Alan

As you are new, I would like to be the first to welcome you. As you are new I would like to be the first to inform you that there is no need to curse. It will not get your problems solved any faster or make people pay attention. In my case I was inclined to go right by your post, however as you are new most things can be excused.

As for your problem. Your phone has the latest f/w as far as O2 is concerned. They have not released a branded update for your phone via SEUS. Your only option is to go to www.wotanserver.com and purchase a credit and update your phone yourself, or you can continue to wait.

Appreciate it for the help, been sitting here eager like a muppet. Cheers for the replies. Looks like I'll be sitting tight for a week.

how can i upgrade my erom
?

Posted by senninha
i had a rather annoying/disturbing experience yesterday. it happened twice actually.

the first time, i was in the middle of downloading stuff from the SE site when all of a sudden, the internet 'globe', the 3G icon and the blue GPRS band over the signal bars disappeared. simultaneously, i got an error message telling me to check my connection settings.

i exited the browser and returned to the standby screen only to find the 'Invalid SIM' indicator. i thought it really strange since i have a relatively new USIM so that should not be the problem. in any case, i shut the phone off for a few seconds, restarted it, and all was fine again.

then it happened a 2nd time later in the day when i was updating RSS feeds. same thing with the 'Invalid SIM'. i tried switching to GSM only but it had no effect. when i tried to search for other networks, it said the function was not available at this time. again, when i turned the phone off for a few seconds, everything was fine when i restarted it.

i'm running R1EJ001 from wotanserver, along with the updated EROM. incidentally, the same exact 'Invalid SIM' thing happened a couple of times as well on a K618 i was testing.

it's definitely a bug but i'm not sure what exactly causes it. it only happens during data transfers. could it be caused by intermittent 3G signal trigerring some kind of error? i did intensive downloading this morning on GSM mode only and didn't encounter any problems.

if anyone has any insights, they would be highly appreciated. otherwise, this will just serve as something to look out for in case others encounter a similar problem.
