if you never had any SE phones more buggy than k800, try to use k700 or k750 with first firmwares i think k800 is much more stable compared to those SE phones

Posted by mwarner
I totally agree with Serg. Whilst there are bugs with the initial firmware on the K800, it is overall a much better firmware than the initial firmware released on previous SE phones.

I think a lot of people read the list and thing 'Wow! That's quite a long list of bugs', but those bugs that are present are all just slight irritations. I, for one, have not had my K800 crash one and I have not read anything to support the accusation that the firmware is unstable.

I have Sony Ericsson Phones since T28S... T68i, T610, first versions of K700 and K750i and none of them had been so buggy like this one... I know what I'm talking about!

I don't understand where's the head of SE engeneers and why doesn't they release immediatly some new firmware better than this one...

Posted by Gud
I agree as well to the stability of the initial K800 firmware. The K800 reboots once every other week, while the initial K700 and K750 rebooted several times per week (sometimes several times per day).

The only issue I have with the K800 after some three weeks is that the cameracover open often too in my pocket.

I have to say I am rather suprised you have had more problems with the K800 than your previous phones. As you probably realise I have carefully monitored the firmware of all recent SE phones (having maintained the Firmware Overview pages here at Esato for the last 3 years or so) and in my experience the K800 has the most bug free initial firmware.

What problems are you experiencing with your phone?

Have i posted this?

Well I've just had some strange goins on, for example, since I've had the phone for nearly a month now, not a single crash or white screen. However, in the last two days, I've had as many crashes! One whilst surfing the net, and the other when just going through the menus!
I suppose the next firmware will sort it though...

One more point, I've noticed that if I click 'Applications' in the activity menu, it takes around 3-5secs to load, but if go throught the menu system its instantaneous?! Anybody else get this?

Cheers

Haha I'm still uncertain about purchasing this phone. Argh.

Dude, seriously, don't worry about purchasing it, it truly is a masterclass phone! I mean for a new phone it absolutly destroys the K750. The firmware is solid, despite waht many people complain about, a lot of the problems are individual.

Also, we're getting to that time when a new firmware will be released clearing up many of these bugs, and also improving the amazing picture quality even more!

My advice, you wan't be disappointed!

Cheers

It's better than the K750 in every way save for size. Despite all the bugs people are posting here, it's less buggy than the K750 in every-day usage, and this is on the very first firmware!

yeah, i just got my K800 this morning.
and it's been perfect so far.
not a single problem yet.
however my battery life is just okay...
it's already down to 25% right now.
so.. i'm going to be recharging it again tonight.
how is everyone else's battery life?

Posted by irtimaled
My battery life is excellent - Had it on for three days and only just hit 40%. People tend to forget that with the new batteries it takes a few good charges to really "stretch" the batteries & until that point the life can be a little disappointing. I find it's best to charge the phone, use it til it dies and repeat. After three or four complete charges/discharges the battery seems to last for an eternity.

IMHO the K800i is the most stable, feature packed, well thought out phone i've ever had. Bring on the new firmware for all those improvements we haven't even thought of yet (as well as the picture quality tweaks)...

Posted by Phantom
alright then.
i guess i'll have to use it a few more days to make my battery perform!
haha, but i'll probably have to recharge it like every night for the next few nights.. because if the day ends and it's at 25%... it'll die in the middle of the next day, and i'll need my phone for the day. so... oh well.
i still can't put this phone down. i love it.

[edit]
one more thing.. on my media player... some song titles get cut off... and for the ones that don't... they don't scroll...
i would think that the title/artist would scroll across the screen so the whole thing could be read.. but for some reason mine doesn't scroll.

and also instead of PlayNow in the main menu, i have like.. a little paper thing with the sony ericsson logo, then once i set up my internet settings, the title of it changed to T-Zones. oh well...

Issues that I have with K800

- Battery charging after empty for complete... I have to charge before all the battery goes empty
- Some freezes when open the camera lens
- Some freezes when surfing the web
- Some freezes in the menu
- Sometimes the keys doesn't react to our press because I use the normal tap method, not t9
- The sound of the keys dissapear misteriously... only returns after an restart...

For now these was the bugs that I remeber right now.

With k700 with 1st firmware wit the same use that I give to this I had never bugs and K750i alsdo not... then, with the next firmware of K700 I remeber that the screen gets some kind of error when displaying the screen protector clocsk when we received a call... then K750i has that firmware that corrupts the memory stick... soWhat now the next firmware of K800? I guess that will correct some bugs now, but give us another bugs?

The most dissapoiting bug right now is the charing one... the screen just stay white during so many time, then I have to press all nbuttos, retire the battery, put it again, etc etc... is very dissapointing!

Also the keys sound dissapearing... i allways loved this click sound of SE and now i can't hear....

I hope SE release a new firmware bug free soon!

Apart that, K800 is a very very good phone!

@phantom

I don't have the PlayNow option either. I think this is a customisation by the service provider. In my case thats o2, in yours t-mobile by the sounds of it.

Not a lot you can do about it except having the generic software applied by firmware "upgrade"

Posted by chrisnewman
Had mine since 6th July and no real issues, only 1 is battery lasts for 2 days before recharge. My K750i lasted for 5 days.

Other than that it's an awesome phone

Posted by mephisto2k
K750 had a smaller display and didn't use 3G, thats why it lasted longer!

Posted by chrisnewman
@ mephisto2k

True!

Posted by SE Rules
My battery life is slightly less than my K750, but thats probably dude to my new contract.....I've got 10X as many minutes as before and I'm using them

Also, I'm using the 3G where possible, the RSS maybe every other hour and then using Opera Mini for random surfing, so it really doesn't get a break! I get about 2 days out of my battery when I'm using it quite hard, but if I leave it alone, I think so far I've gone nearly 3.5days without charging....

Cheers

Hey,

There are a few mixed reactions regarding the phone, but I'll probably wait till the end of the month to get one... hopefully there will be a firmware fix by then.

Posted by aremaboy
My K800 doesn't experience Opera Mini bug. Just the clock display bug..large but so tiny..Yes,because it's a China Firmware. But in general, this new toy is fabolous..

yeah but that's like.. weird... considering my phone is unbranded.
i have the HONG KONG firmware also.
i mean, it doesn't really bother me that i have no PlayNow because i never really used it anyway... but i just found it strange that i didn't have it on an unbranded phone.

Posted by irtimaled
@phantom

Thats weird that you have unbranded phone with unbranded software yet dont have PlayNow. My first K800i (phone I loaned from the shop when my S700i was in for repairs) was an unbranded one and that had PlayNow. It was so good I bought one yet got on O2 branded customisation.

Anyone noticed the niggle with blogging that if your theme has bright text it's not so visible on the bright yellow background (which cannot be changed by the theme) when typing your blog title and text.

Posted by jmcomms
Yes, most of the tennis themes downloadable from SE make blogging photos near impossible (well, adding text, not the images).

Posted by aremaboy
Poor me, I've never managed to create a K800 'Blog this' so far..always failed..is it because of my location here in Indonesia of a local operator not like Vodafone or T-Mobile?

Posted by mwarner
Added the T-Mobile firmware revision to the first page.

Posted by irtimaled
@jmcomms

I have found the "Stones" theme from SE has grey text which appears quite nicely in the blogger. Perhaps an option to adjust the colour or make it transparent. Having the ability to use the text message input "window" to type the text would make blogging so much easier, for instance, scrolling on the blogger is a little hit and miss whereas it's spot on when writing a text & the font when writing text messages is also much more readable in most themes. In the mean time try to steer clear of themes that have light (white or near white) fonts for entering text in text boxes.

@mwarner

Can this light font (often necessary when using a dark theme) making blogging on the light yellow background be added to the bug list? It's not a show stopper but perhaps if SE see it they will realise they missed it!!!

Gaaah. mwarner, can you confirm that you are still experiencing the "horrible" multitap-performance? I send about 3000 sms a month, so when I have to triplecheck every single sms for spellingerrors caused by the lagging multitapping, this bug is quite a pain in the @ss. Does anyone else than me and mwarner experience this?

Posted by Phantom
i don't seem to have a problem with multitapping.
i go pretty fast, and it catches every single one...

and here's how my menu looks...

Maybe it's Sony Ericssons way to tell you guys to get with the times and start using T9 Maybe the engineers got sick and tired of everyone using txt-speak

Posted by chrisnewman
I second that, what's wrong with T9!!!???

Posted by mwarner
@conzepth

I have to say that I have not noticed it as much of late - this may be just me getting used to the phone's ways or perhaps the keyboard has settled down somewhat? TO be honest at the moment I am unsure whether it is a bug or not. I think it is, as the phone does still lag occasionally during use which could cause this issue.

By the way, I use T9, not multitap.

I would be interested in hearing from other users about this issue. It's difficult to know whether it is just our two phones that are doing this (which would imply slightly dodgy keyboards) or something that does happen occasionally on all phones.

Posted by chrisnewman
I have Voda K800 and NO lag on T9 or multitap...............

Posted by irtimaled
I've noticed the lag a little on t9 text input too. As mwarner I've gotten used to it but the odd word gets sent wrong because it's missed out a letter and the T9 has found a completely wrong word!

Has anyone noticed the joystick is less responsive on up than down. Come to think of it my girlfriends K800 doesn't suffer from that so perhaps it's a build issue.

Posted by boman1882
does any one know how, when surfing on the html browzer, how to "save target as"?
I went on this website to download a link theme to my mobile be when i click on it. it just come up with garbage?
help anyone.
I don't have the means to download to pc first as i am at work,

Posted by kalleboo
I haven't noticed any T9 lag or dropped characters, save for when you're in "My Friends" and have a long chat log (and then a "Clear log" speeds it right back up).

Hi,

Went to debrand a UK vodaphone K800, using wotan server : phone was recognised by clinet, process started then stalled. NOw the phone appears to be dead ( ie no charging symbol when on charge, nil responce to power button and windows cannot recognise it as a USB device ). Does anyone ahve any suggestions as to how I can resolve this as am now stuck (badly).

TIA

F

Posted by irtimaled
@scaglifr
I have heard of issue with debranding and powerup problems. I have read somewhere that you need to take the battery out, leave it out for a few mins, reconnect the battery & press the power button. Note there are also issues with pressing the power button twice where the second press cancels the power up and makes it look like it's not working.
If these points dont help perhaps look at the wotan help.

Keep us posted.

Posted by SE Rules
I'll tell you something else about t9, it snot the lag mentioned above, that doesnt affect me, but whenever I try to type ''I've'', the phone also bloody wites "H've", and its really annoying! Grrr I've checked my words, and it isn't there, this H've, so I hope some way they can sor tthe t9!

Cheers

Posted by boman1882
you just need to teach T9 by, typing I alot and then type I've alot and then it will start to put it at the top of the list.

like this,

I I I I I I I I I I I

I' I' I' I' I' I' I'

I've I've I've I've I've

worked for me

Posted by SE Rules
OK, Cheers dude

Posted by peanut
Type the word you want or scroll to it in the list and move the joystick right. Do that three times and the word is at the top.

I created a blank message and spent 20 minutes going through common contractions so it wouldn't piss me off in the future.

Posted by boman1882
i've found moving the joystick left back over the word whilst still in the list moves the word to the top,

Posted by conzepth
@mwarner

I've noticed that sometimes (but only sometimes - the phone DOES lag a little ), the problem is caused by the inside of my right palm touching the photo-button while typing. This is the same as pressing the joystick to the right.

Test this: Try writing aaaa by pressing A, then pressing the photo-button like you would do for auto-focusing. It skips to the next A.
A semi-fix for SE would be to make the phone ignore "input" from the photo-button while you're typing, atleast when the button is only pressed to the focus-position. I find it hard to believe if none of you right-handed persons out there have experienced this issue before.

Awesome phone, f%¤%¤ annoying "bug". ;D

To you guys recommending T9; No. :>

Haha yeah, I could really never get to using T9.

Any idea when the K790a will make its debut?

Posted by utsavtalwar
hey guys
just got a k790i...
im really very dissapointed with the sound on the headphones its low and bad..specially with hpm-70 theres very low sound.
is there a way se can improve sound output..just hope so...
any alternate ways or some java music playr which is better.also someone knowin java..is there a possibility of creating a cool music application maybe with even megabass...hope for replies
cheers

Posted by conzepth
@utsavtalwar

Just wait for a new firmware. My guess is that it'll take some time so they can fix the majority of the bugs in one firmware, instead of releasing 10+ firmwares like the k750.

Posted by Danny CT
Just a quick post to add about the quiet sound levels. If im using the music player , and i have my headphones (standard set that come with phone) plugged in, i find it adiquate to have my volume on just above half way. If i have it on full i find it far too loud

*Just to clarify im using an Orange K800i*

Speaker: For a living im a director for one of the top record companies. We were in the studio the other day and my phone rung ( I forgot to turn it off). The music was playing but yet it was still hearble and a couple of the technicians even looked at me.

If anyone could enlighten me on the exact problem, i can let you know if i have the same problem.

@ mwarner- Thanks very much for all your efforts that you put into this forum. It's very much aprreciated by me and i am sure everyone else. Keep up the good work
