does anyone else have a problem with their contact list in that it doesn't search properly?

like for me when I search "St" (and I have multiple St's in my phone book: Steve, Stephanie, etc.) it only goes to the start of "S"

hello again......... i would like to know........if i flash my K800i phone with the DavinciTeam Logger 16.4 using the latest patch (K800_R1ED001_EUR1....CDA102511/2) will it let me use an orange SIM CARD on it.......i have it locked to 3G at the moment.

Posted by ghostfreak
No, upgrading the firmwire will not remove a sim-lock.

I never mentioned this one, and I know it's the same as the media player in the K750, but the video player will only display videos sorted on the date the file was copied onto the phone, with no resorting options. This is a bug, as far as I am concerned, given that the K750 at least allowed you to reorder media files.

Also, I had my first go with panoramics, and thought I had taken a really nice picture (see my photos on here). However, when I downloaded it onto my PC, I realized it was only 416px high. Have a I missed a setting I can change to up the resolution to 3x 3.2MP (minus overlap)? If not, why on earth have they limited the resolution? Is it because three full-res photos would place too much processing strain on the stitching routine?

When I go to buy a credit from Wotan's site using PayPal I get a message saying it could not process the transaction. Anyone else get this?

Posted by DCUK7
Never mind, got it working now.

One thing I have just noticed after flashing; I am sending my contacts from my K700i via bluetooth and my K800i started receiving them and after it got about 6kb of it, it asked me did I want to receive the contacts. This must be a bug as when I send contacts to the K700i it doesn't start receiving anything until you tell it to.

Nothing major but interesting if its not a bug (why would they change the behaviour)!

@obentou.
Is the issue with the green line on one side of the screen while video recording, solved in the new R1ED?

Posted by Paul_s
Well I've decided to chance and upgraded the EROM, and in the process of flashing as we speak..

All seems to have gone fine, but now it's sat on "CSLOADER: starting FS", and it's been like that for about 10 or 15 minutes, is that right? Nothing seems to happen, but I'm scared to unplug it...
:s

Posted by darrengf
Mine took about 30 seconds on the cs loader.

In all it shouldnt take you no longer than 15 mins in all to dowload the firmware, and update the phone. My average time is about 6-9 min. depending if the firmware is already downloaded

Regarding the Green Line

It has, If you also want to check on the first page its also mention there .

Hope this helps.

Well, it crashed out each time I tried to run it, sits at that point for about 15 minutes, then the wotan client just crashes.. Not sure what to do now...

Posted by ghostfreak
Restart the PC or your internet connection?

Posted by Rookwise
I just used the Wotanserver to upgrade the EPROM, debrand and update the firmware on my O2 branded K800. Everything went through fine.

Very pleased

Just gotta get the GPRS settings again now

Posted by obentou
RonaldM,

I just tried videorecording in high Q mode and there was no green line present during the recording. Just to make sure, I played back the file and there wasn't any green line either.

I usually don't record videos with the phone since the quality is horrendous. But I hope my finding helps.

And another bug lingering on R1ED:

The call timer in the service menu does NOT match the total call timer in the settings menu. This should be noted.

Oh yes! Excellent News.

Well, I tried restarting the PC, and it got one stage further, now it's stuck on GDFS, I'm waiting to see if that crashes too. Tried it on my laptop and I get the BSOD, which may be coz it's an old old laptop! I guess I'll keep trying...

There is one BUG in the first release FW that i can't find on these pages..

And that is: PC won't find mobile, AT ALL!!!! I have tried with 6 PC's and 3 cables.. There is no way in H**L that the PC will find my mobile. I am going to Oslo to upgrade my mobile today. Hope it helps

Have anyone here upgraded from R1CB001 to R1ED001? Many different new things? Much better or?

dude its obviously not going to match.
when you upgrade the firmware the call timer in the settings menu is reset...while the one in the service menu stays the way it is... so the service menu timer displays your original call time..thats the total call time of the phone from the beginning
hope this helps

Upgraded mine and STILL getting the resetting clock/calendar thing back to year 2000. Anyone else getting this or is it just mine. It's like several times a day sometimes which means all the sms get re-ordered, calendar doesn't alarm etc.

Very annoying.

A question or two or four regarding this thread and its occupants.

After reading this thread from start to finish I have developed a few questions:

1. Do some of the users here (they happen to be the same ones over and over) do anything other than look for errors, bugs, flaws, et al... with their phones during their waking hours?

2. Do these same people live simply to find these bugs, flaws, errors, etc.....

3. What satisfaction is derived from this?

4. Do you (the bug hunters) push the phones until they ultimately find something to report?

My reasons are that it seems the same people are the same ones finding bugs and posting them. These posts are generally grouped around a timeframe that would indicate that they spend quite a bit of time looking for bugs and very little else.

Not a flame, but questions to those whom they apply.

You may have a point there !

Its very rare i find the bugs, more on fixing them for people.

But hey we must carry on

maldus:

You obviously don't know what I'm saying. Wotan has the option to clear the phone's service menu call timer as well, so it starts at 00:00:00 and I verified this before posting.

I am not an idiot who goes posting until I am absolutely positive that it is an issue. I advise you to think before you speak, to avoid misleading others here.

Edit: The behaviour is the same as in previous firmwares, as in the timer in the menu is faster than in the settings.

Any way people.
Here is the latest Service Adiv for Sony Ericsson

Affected Products
K800/K610/V630/K790/K618
Information
A new and improved software is about to be released on EMMA III.

The new release contains two parts, the pre-configuration and the actual update. The pre-configuration prevents the majority of the “can’t power on” problem and the actual update contain other improvements described in the improvements section below.

If you have a phone that doesn’t contain this pre-configuration Emma III will force you to download it before you can continue with the actual update. If the pre-configuration already is loaded in to the phone, either from factory or by EMMA III, you will not be prompted for this again

Due to some technical constraints Update Service and Update Service Pro don't support the pre-configuration part. Hence the actual update will be loaded without the above pre-configuration. The phone will then have the new and improved software but “can’t power on” problems might in some rare occasions still occur.

Released services
From start only Software Update Content Refresh will be released
Work is on-going with Update Service, Update Service Pro, Software update and Customise. They will be released as soon as the work is finalised.
Instructions
Log on to EMMA III as usual and connect the phone using SEPI-A1 or a USB Cable.
If the phone doesn’t contain the pre-configuration EMMA III will display a message saying:

Connect the phone again at the same time as you’re pressing “2” and “5”. The loading of the pre-configuration is finalised when EMMA III displays the message:

The Above is for the EROM
*** Note the EROM is that part of the phone that starts and stops the phone, This is the Same as a BIOS in a PC ***

**

The phone is now ready updated software with R1ED001 or later, following the normal update process.
Major Improvements in R1ED001
Phone automatically answers with PHF. Corrected

Major improvements that will reduce the can’t power on problem

The phone will now attempt to send messages without authenticating to the server, if no outgoing username/password has been specified.

**

If i get any more i will let you know,

Thanks.

I was just curious because I see the very same people posting about bugs with their phones. It is as though they do nothing but look for bugs rather than simply using the device for it intended purpose.

Your posts are also a blessing and a curse. Those of us that can look at your recent post objectively and see it for what it is will go, "oh, cool. Great news". However, the accursed part comes in when some will see this and then start the: "Why isn't it posted yet. SE is screwing us, or when will the perfect phone ever be invented?" You have definitely poured gasoline on the fire with this one.

Thanks, it means SE won't update my K800i via 'old' SEUS..There will be SEEUS (Sony Ericsson EROM Upgrade Service) before updating with SEUS. Hm, that's why R1ED001 isn't out for SEUS. Good news..lol.

@sapporobaby

I dont mind helping any one out. Knowledge is power and power is knowledge. (Well something is power) Also Knowledge is dangerous i know that so i share it wisely

I would rather share my knowledge. Ok sometimes people do say this and that. But i would rather place my knowledge on here to hopefully stop them doing this.

@aremaboy
You are more than welcome. May be people on here will now not keep asking whe the SEUS will work

*** Please no post saying Why doesnt SE tell us this or remove it from the Update ***

SE are working on a fix and trying to resolve the issue fast.

In the mean time, SE Service centers will resolve and update the phone for you. ** For those who dont havnt SE update service centers or cant get to one. Some Countries have a free post returns to the service center and they will do the update for free.
Bear with SE or use wotan Server. it will cost 7 Euros. It isnt ideal but its the only one you have at the moment.

I know its not what every one wants to here.

Another thing to say. Wotan Server will allow you to update the EROM for Free. However you still have to have a credit ava for you to do this.

The Credit isnt removed so i suppose while your there, you might as wel and upgrade the phone too.

I have dont both of my K800is now and a few others.

Any more new i will let you all know.

Im shortly on my hols (Tuesday night for 2 weeks)(I need a Break) So I will not be able to help on answer any quetions. However I know that there are all good people on here and will look after every one.

Whats EMMA III?

Do I have to use EMMA III first, and then SEUS to upgrade my phone (when the sw is released)

EMMA III Is what Sony Ericsson Service Centers use to update the phones. No only Service Centers Engineers and Sony have access to this website.

As said in the previous thread, No release date regarding the SEUS. All I can say is the SE are working on a update, But dont expect it too soon.

Quick question for you. My EROM is older but I flashed my phone to R1ED001, (EROM = R3A011), the phone is fine. Works like it should. Is there a bother to upgrade the EROM in terms of performance or should I not "fix" it if it ain't broken?

Cheers and enjoy the Hols.

But its gonna be released on SEUS, so you don't need to send in it to Service Center...
You are saying its not gonna be anytime soon, and I think you have pretty good knowlege about SE,so maybe the fastet and best way is to send in the phone to SE...

I just called my local SESC here in Malang, East Java, Indonesia-and guess what, they didn't even have any K800i f/w! Let alone this EROM upgrade.. An update or a full flash is done by capital province's SESC, within 2 weeks..it's 90 km far, 6 hours bus trip.

how they get this all sorted out.

Answer to the question is Yes.

Service Centers have only been issued in the last 2 weeks the EROM update and from the prev post there is a service Adiv regarding the EROM update.

The Firmware doesnt stop the phone from white screening which is a major issue in the K800i. The EROM does this. As siad the EROM is a BIOS of the phone. Basic (B) Input (I) Output (O) System (S)
Erom stands for Erasable Read Only Memory.

hope this makes it clear

Hey Darren,

Not to continue this but I am now confused. I have never had the WSOD. I purchased my phone in Finland and it has not had any of the "so-called" problems that many have experienced, created or imagined. My phone has just worked flawlessly right out of the box. I upgraded via Wotan and it still remains rock solid. With this being the case, what advantage would I gain by updating the EROM over the current bug free operation I am enjoying?

Thanks.

******************************* Previous post ******
The EROM is to prevent the phone from white screening. The white screening is affecting many thousands of users world wide and this is why the release of the EROM.

However not all phones are affected from the white screen from what I can see. However there is no where of knowing which are and which arnt.

I have had white screening on both of my own K800i phones but i fixed them my self,

How white screen can occur an the one that happens the most is when you switch you phone of and plu the phone in to charge, The screen comes on white and thats it, It doesnt go of. This is white screening and left alone can, has and will damage the phone.

How to ge round this is watch the phone when you plug it in, the screen will come white an should go of ans SE logo come on in a few seconds. If this doesnt happen unplug he phone and remove the battery for 20 seconds.

Try the procedure again and this time it should charge fine.

People have had white screening when using there phone or when switching on there phone.

The EROM Must have a power command like a BIOS on the computer does and this is why SE are saying and forcing the EROM update to the service centers. So when you take your phone in, the EROM will also get done.

This is why SE update service doesnt currenlty work.

To update the EROM you have to press 2 and 5 while connectin the phone.

To updae the Firmware you have to press c while connecting the phone.

Currenlty SEUS only supports the C pressing and not the 2 and 5. SE are trying to adapt so it will either do both, or you will so the EROM as well.

Hope this helps.

Some people on here have said you can just update the EROM. As per SE you can just do the EROM.

However you still have to buy a credit from wotan server as the Erom doesnt update. The Erom is free and the credit isnt used. The Credit then can be used to update the software at a later date or re do the R1ED001 again.

Hope this helps

Lastly: this EROM shouldn't overwrite any data as it's more or less the BIOS of the phone yes?

It wont overwite any data at all.

Knowledge is power and power is knowledge !! (I think)

As Wotan Server says, you dont have to have a paypal account. You can also pay via kagi.com

when you click on purchase use the Kagi function at the bottom.

Other wise than that, MSN them or email them.

Correct me if I'm wrong:
Why doesn't SE adapt Wotan easy way to upgrade EROM? When this EROM issue was out, Wotan readily and easily released a new client that worked like a charm and was free..and took just 5-10 secs. Won't such a similar client by SE work in this case? One more, will FOTA in our handset work regarding this EROM Upgrade? I'm afraid it won't..so sad.

Just a follow up...

Bought a credit via Wotanserver (will keep it for a rainy day!) and downloaded the latest client. Wotan detects that the EROM is out of date and prompts you to update it, which took all of 10 seconds. Job done.

Nothing has been over-written by the process and boot up did seem a fraction faster from what I could see.
