u can pay orange to release the code for you. I had mine locked on orange and when i came back to Malta obviously i couldnt use it cause it was simlocked. Fortunatley I had requested the code and now it workds fine It costs about 20 pounds though...but worth it

Still no update, via OTA and SEUS.

Posted by mgd
I've updated via Wotan (R1ED001 EUROPE 1), it appeared to go well (FINISHED OK), however my K800i is acting kinda strange.

For instance:

Browser doesn't render some websites well--they were ok before.
RSS icon and menu links don't appear in browser.
Mp3 files will stop playing--display "failed"--both from phone and M2.

From what I can tell, the main problem seems to be with the browser. Anyway, I've tried both types of Master Resets, but they did not fix the problem.

This is all probably my fault because I got distracted and forgot to remove the SIM card before updating (although I did remove the M2). Anyway, I still have a credit at Wotan. Can I redo the update or go back to the R1CB001?

You should've removed your SIM too. I'm surprised that the update completed properly with your SIM still inside the handset; I accidentally forgot to remove my SIM and the update wouldn't complete properly.

Removing the SIM and attempting to update again solved the problem and everything is fine now.

in the new firmware R1ED they FINALLY FIXED THE KEYPAD SOUND ( CLICK, TONE) it doesnt go away anymore

cool. You've sold the update to me. Just waiting for it to appear on SUES now, as I dont want to have to re-install all my phone settings again.

That's strange because I have never removed my sim card nor my M2. Even when I used SEUS to upgrade, I did not remove anything.

yeah, i'm waiting for the official release aswell

For those of you who wanted to create a new blog with your K800i and it didn't work because you couldn't release the connection between your phone and your blog (like me):

I found the solution! You have to change your language to English in the dashboard and you will get the "mobile devices" box in the sideboard with a very long string/code that represents the phone that is connected to the blog. You delete the device and the next time you use "send to blog" for a picture from your K800i you get a new token for a new blog...

If your dashboard is set to language German for example, you don't see the "mobile devices" title and can't delete your mobile phone from the blog.

Finally found it! Hope that helps others too.

hi guys! just wanna ask sumthing

my dad bought me a k800 from the US.

1. what would most likely be my firmware?
2. what will the problems be if i use it here in the philippines?

thanks

Posted by obentou
bronx,

I believe you have to check the firmware yourself. There is no way we can guess what it is.

As for Phillipines coverage, if it is a K800i, it should be fine. It supports worldwide freq. bands.

I removed the SIM and have updated again, but I still experience the same problem. Maybe I should've reinstalled the old firmware and waited for the OTA update. Has anyone else installed the EUROPE_1 firmware? Any problems?

Excellent!! Cheers mate. I had mine set at English (UK) and that didn't show either, but English works fine...

wells - Try removing the battery for about 10 seconds and then reinsert it. Power up the phone. Any life?

@jonnywells

This is a discussion about the K800i firmware(s) - lets keep your problem to your original thread eh?

Why does everyone keep going on about removing the SIM before updating when the phone wont do anything without it in the handset???

My version is R1CB001, but software version update says it's the most recent version (which is bollocks) and so won't update. If i can't take out the SIM to update and i can't update through the phone service, who am i supposed to update the phone? I can't read 75 pages in the faint hope someone has already answered the question....

Posted by obentou
Again, the R1ED001 is NOT out on SEUS. Any attempt will prove futile regardless of the SIM being inserted or not. You will know when it is out when all the members of the forum here start saying it's out on SEUS... including myself.

The only option currently is to update via. WotanServer/Davinci via. their credit systems.

Posted by baste07
just keep trying for the OTA update. obviuosly you need your sim in the phone for that.

Hi all,

I debranded my K800i thre handset and everything went swell. I'm trying to install the msn messenger client that three are offering but am getting a 'operation failed' error. Has anyone else managed to get the msn messenger client working after debranding their three K800i handset?

Just trying to work out if it affectedit somehow.

Cheers

thanks so much obentou! =) was kinda worried that my k800 wont work here or might cause a lot of problems

@subzuk

That is the same message I was getting when trying to access the Applications or games folders on the phone memory. Turned out to be a memory corruption which requires re-programming or a new memory etc. Phone has been back to O2 for over 2 weeks now for repair.

It is possible you have some sort of memory access issue. (Note that my handset had never been flashed / debranded so the fault developed and wasnt caused by me).

I will try to reflash my phone using Wotan, hoping it will fix my problem with "Operation failed" when trying to access Applications or Games folder (see other thread).

Newest Wotan client, 0.9.910 from 2006-09-21, has "DB2020 EROM upgrade from R3A011 to R3A016 added".

What is EROM, and do I want or need to upgrade it?

Posted by AngelofDeath
Something i've noticed on R1ED is that on using applications such as pullface. Where you used to be able to allow permissions to allow the app to read and write data, your options are now limited to always ask or no.

Wotan recommends removing SIM and cards before updating using their service. The phone has to be booted into a special mode for updating using the USB cable, by holding the 'C' button. I guess there's a possibility of ruining the SIM or card. When updating OTA, the SIM is not removed.

I have the the same problem. I think it is due to lack of 3 certificate, or the preinstalled chat application stub. I have searched here and on other sites, found no solution yet.

Wotan supplies generic, unbranded firmware. It will be upgraded and debranded all in one. You will have the My Friends app after debranding.

You may need two credits now, one for upgrading EROM, one for upgrading firmware.

Posted by AngelofDeath
Now i've upgraded my firmware. SEUS is showing my K800i as a generic phone

@ subzuk:
I have se k800i clean from any brandings from the beginig. i cant download chat program with same error message. but if you try with k800 branded by "3" ( i use swedish "3") then its no problem. 3´s fw have extra sertificates or digital signatures which you dont have in unbranded k800. You can brand you phone again and use chat, or wait untill 3 realises chat prog for unbranded phones. I talket to 3 in sweden and they told me that chat prog for unbranded k800 may come out in some month or two!

Posted by subzuk
Thanks all for your replies.

I think I will stick with my unbranded K800i for the time being. Shame though as 3 UK are offering free MSN messenger use until the end of October. Hope they bring out the client for unbraded phones sooner!

Cheers

OK i have a question.

WHERE THE F*** IS NEW FIRMWARE ON SEUS? IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!?

Posted by aremaboy
Well, it's the end of 38th week..anyway, I'm still 'scared' to touch SEUS as I just killed a friend's K750i last week..
working with SEUS is like gambling: alive or dead..at least I intend to try FOTA (I don't know whether it really works or not, quite doubtful about it).

Posted by darrengf
Ok the firmware is still waiting to be placed on to the SEUS server.

I do know that this week SE have placed some new Firmwares for the K750 and a couple of other phones, but the K800 is still not on there.

There was no promise that SE would release there firmware this week.

Its on the system for a hope release week 38, this doesnt mean it has to be on there.

If you have major problems with the K800 then go to a local SE service Center like CPW and they will flash the firmware with the latest one, These guys do have the new firmware. It was issued to them this week.

You can also post your phone back to SE and again they will flash with the latest one.

You can also purchase the firmware your self and flashing the firmware cost is £5 aprox or 7Euros

If you are just wanting to update the phone to the latest revsion and dont want to pay and dont have major problems with the phone then please bear with the update.

The update should hopefully be on in the next few weeks. But again this is also subject to change.

If i know more i will let you know.

Who said it would be there for 10000%????? Post a link showing this from SE.

Posted by obentou
The firmware will be here when it will be released. We have no confirmed date or time.

I have been saying this for about 2 weeks or so and people still do not get it. You have the immediate choices of: 1. Wait, 2. Purchase it from Wotan, 3. STFU.

Pretty simple.

Posted by aremaboy
Hm, I think most of us, K800i users, are all 'spirited' by the release of new f/w for K750, M600, and P990 the past few weeks, and were 'mentally ready' to get one for K800i. It is a popular phone which should have treated 'more', meaning even a small flaw shouldn't have been present. That's normal. Anyway, let's know that even W800i-another popular- is 'forgotten' by SE..Hm,think positively?

Posted by obentou
I'm sure that if Wotan and DaVinci has their hands on this R1ED firmware, it won't be too long before the release is globally distributed through SEUS. Indeed we're all in high hopes for the firmware to be released soon.

I know i can stfu, BUT. WHY DO THEY DO THIS?! They have new firmware for about 3 weeks, is that SO HARD to put this on SEUS? Why i have to pay to get my phone fixed? WTF are they doing?

Posted by jadler
I did not see it in previous version, but now when choosing wallpaper I have the option to choose a program. The developer site, and other threads here, have more info on Java wallpaper, but I have not found any yet. Not that I have been actively looking lately.

Anyone else found any?

(On the SE developer site it is described on the page 'How to create a standby MIDlet for Java Platform 7 (JP-7) phones', at http://developer.sonyericsson[....]p_standby_midlet_jp7phones.jsp )

@admad

u have a good point also i wud like to add y does se not take there time when manafacturing a new fone, by that i mean, if they tuck there time the wudnt have to have the problem of updating the firmware. also they wudn't have so many bugs. personaly im going to use wotan, the reason is coz its cheap for debranding, its only £4.69 britsh money, u cant get that any ware i live.

anyway in the end there are always more resorses out there and fantastic sites like this that can tell u info.

Posted by sapporobaby
It is a common misconception that SE HAS to upgrade their products through SEUS. Show me in their documentation where it says SE is bound by an agreement with the customer to offer updates. They are doing this as a courtesy. Why aren't you crying and complaining that Nokia finally offered this service about 2 or 3(?) years after SE. No one said that you have to purchase an upgrade, but we do not have to hear about your constant complaining that it is not there. I decided not to wait. 7 Euro or whatever it was will not break my bank by a long shot, so it was no problem to come out of my pocket for the money. Once again, if you have proof that SE just has to put the f/w on their servers then provide proof, or go back to my previous three options.

Sorry to interrupt the whining. Please continue.

Posted by MrZippy
This site shows R1ED001 as a SEUS version now.

http://www.se-world.info/firmwares.php?phone=62

Anyone confirm?

Posted by sielski666
for one i wasnt complaning so read the post i left. if u do read it ull find that i was simply putting a point across, saying if they did take there time may be things may work better. the second matter is i dont c y some like u should start taking things out on ppl simply adding to the post, if u have problems and yr pissed off find sumit ells to take it out on and people dont come on ere to so ppl mouthing off at ppl like u are.
