A note to all - always, ALWAYS backup your files before you do anything. And always read the pop up boxes in FAR befor you accept a file copy. i.e. it is very easy to make a mistake a copy from the wrong location.

What specific problems are you guys trying to correct with these fixes? The reason I ask is because I *think* I hear more than just hissing at low volumes (see below)... I am not sure if this is what everyone is experiencing and is addressed with these fixes, or if my unit is defective.

When there is no music playing, I hear a constant hiss. When there is music playing I hear this hiss, and also static noises, similar to what you will hear from an FM/AM radio that is not getting perfect signal.

Thanks

Posted by mongoose3800
DanR - From my perspective it is both. For quite a while I interpreted the noise/hiss issue as being the static type noise you hear when an MP3 is playing - this noise is especially noticeable during pauses in the music or quieter sections. But this just maybe MP3 noise and the sensitivity of the HPM70 Headphones. As I understand it the main hissing issue is the Hiss that is constantly audible when the walkman is on. i.e. you can hear it in the background as soon as you turn on the player. The hissing is really obvious when playing a low volumes. When you apply the R1L drivers there is a definite reduction in the hiss noise but it comes at the price of loss of sound quality at higher volumes. This is where AKSD has been trying find the right mix between both. I'm actually going to test all drivers and combos again as I really hadn't picked up on the hissing in the earlier stages as I don't usually play my music at low volumes. Now, that I'm fully aware of both noises it is really distracting me and I want to try a find which drivers make the greatest improvement. It may take me some time though.

I just finished an extensive test whereby I copied one R1L file at a time into the R1BC drivers to find which file is causing the hissing in the R1BC drivers. With each file I always started with a fresh set of R1BC drivers on the phone. I am 100% sure that I have found the one file that is responsible for the hissing. It is PHF_2_play.apf - no doubt about it. I have tested twice and I have found that adding only the R1L version of PHF_2_play.apf to original set of R1BC drivers makes the hissing almost unoticable. The difference really is dramatic! The Static noises and crackles between songs are also dramatically reduced! Unfortunately, at full volume there is still distortion. BUT, if you don't pump the EQ all the way up the sound seems quite acceptable - probably just as good as the orignal drivers. In fact, if you're like me and like to pump the eq to the max on all settings you may just find that pushing all settings no furhter that full orange will result in the same max volume as the original drivers without the distortion. I now reckon the distortion only happens because PHF_2_play.apf results in louder volume when the EQ is maxed out than the phone can handle.

Everyone, try it. I'd reall like to know what you think. I'm pretty sure this is the best we are going to get and all you need do is copy one file!

"VHF_hca-60_play.apf" isnt there in R1AA008 so there will be no replacing...

hi tupac1, can u post ur original acoustic folders(with all the original files in it) here? cos i accidentally deleted themT_T. i really appreciate it if u could help. thanx. if anyone else can help me with this, pls do so cos i really need them. thank u vry much.

I've been really picky about the sound quality through out this exercise. Just to make sure I was sure of what I stated above I just tested several songs back to back at both max and low volume. i.e. original R1BC with EQ set to full versus R1BC with PHF_2_play.apf from R1L and EQ set to full orange (not red). With these settings I don't think I can tell the difference at max volume. And, the low volume improvements are major. I've tested for an hour now and am convinced that what I said above is the best resolution so far for the hissing bug.

@mongoose3800

Kindly provide us with the step by step procedure to do this wherein all that is needed is to copy one file. By the way, is it easy to revert back to original R1BC in case we find something wrong? Thanks mate!

Posted by mongoose3800
arnarn911: The steps are (at your own risk):

1) Obtain a copy of the original R1L acoustic drivers. AKSD kindly provided a link to them in the 1st post in this thread: http://rapidshare.de/files/23[....]Acoustic_R1L_and_R1BC.rar.html

2) Connect to your phone with FAR and navigate to ifs/settings/acoustic

3) Backup the entire contents of ifs/settings/acoustic to a suitable location on your computer.

4) Use FAR to copy PHF_2_play.apf from original R1L driver set to ifs/settings/acoustic.

5) exit FAR cleanly, unhook your phone, turn on your phone.

To undo the changes simply copy back your backup copy of PHF_2_play.apf

It's that easy.

is it possible to upload the original R1L acoustic drivers to megaupload.com or uploading.com?

i can't download from rapidshare..... kept having the download session invalid error...

thanks.

Posted by tupac1
hi symbian, sorry man i never backed up my files ><.

Posted by obentou
I replaced the PHF_2_play.apf from the R1BC driver set with the R1L driver set, but there is quite a hiss from the phone's speaker. Well, I have to put my ear all the way up to the speaker to hear it. I haven't tested it with the earphones yet.

My acoustic drivers are all R1BC except for the R1L PHF_2_play.apf.

just try the acoustics from w810 they have no hissing and the media player hears a lot louder. i'm trying now to put more bass in the fm player. i've managed to do that but the speaker options for fm radio doesn't work no more. I have an exam tomorow but i'll try to modify de apf flies and sent them to you tomorow...

Posted by obentou
I also have the farfield_play.apf and farfield_ring.apf from the W810i already installed. It definitely makes the ringtones a lot louder + good quality when I do the MP3 for ringtone trick.

Edit: I just tested it with the headphones. The hissing is virtually inaudible. I don't even think there is hissing anymore...

Great job guys. I'm using the PHF_2 play whatever file from R1L, and the W810i farfield play/ring acoustics.

Here they are the 2 archives of the W810, to clear extension to him MP3.

what do farfield_play.apf and farfield_ring.apf do? how are they different from PHF_2_play.apf?

hissing problem was solved but the cost is it made MegaBass almost unuseable...

Another question:

Is it possible to copy ifs\\settings\\acoustic folder from a w810 to a w800?

Posted by mongoose3800
Unfortunately I am not going to be able test any further for about 3 weeks. My fast port adapter has just developed a problem whereby it will not reconise the headphones intermittently. Its definately a hardware problem with the phone. So I've sent it off for repair which means about 3 weeks wait.

Posted by obentou
I may be wrong, but I think the farfield play / ring is the general output of the speakerphone perhaps? And earphones? Not too sure. All I know, ring is responsible for the ringtone quality/volume, and play is the phone's regular media player.

Posted by obentou
On the subject of the phone's acoustics... is there a file in the acoustic folder that is responsible for the call volume? The earpiece volume is a bit low and I'd like to know if there is a louder file (ie. W810i's) to replace the K750i's /W800's with.

Posted by arnarn911
Has anyone checked if loading older "acoustic" version re-enables m4a support?

EDIT: Tried it already and it did not. Wonder where in the system it is hidden..

ULTIMATE SOUND DRIVER

FINAL Version BETA

http://rapidshare.de/files/24819277/PHF_2_play.apf.html

This driver is based on the W900 driver

NO hissing during playback-not even little
NO hissing when connecting the headphones
Loudness improved
Awesome MEGABASS

Its just amazing.........it seriously conquers the iPod with this driver. Everybody's got to try this driver to believe it.

It needs some more work...will finish it when I have the time.

A BIG THANK YOU for mongoose3800 for endless hours of testing.......this could'nt have been done if it was'nt for mongoose3800 finding the PHF file.....

Enjoy all,
Akshay

nice work, akshay.

keep it up, dude.

make the best for our k750/w800 fones.

Yes this solution is great! Although the speaker still has a loud hiss but I don't mind because I practically always use my earphones. The hiss through the earphone has been greatly reduced but I can't say it's 100% gone... Great solution anyway!

Hi,

I done some test and I must say that problems described bellow are not anymore. Crackles are also on R1B and R1L drivers so it's nature on Walkman player not the driver. Hanging problem also happens on oroginal drivers so again it's not the problem of driver but player. I found this could be problem with mp3 tagging. So... I must say this: BETA driver is really nice!

---

I've tried latest BETA solution on my W800i (R1BD001) and found strange problem with one of my mp3 files placed on memory card. This mp3 is composed by my friend so I make it public available on:

http://rapidshare.de/files/24850898/Climber_-_RedLines.mp3.html

So... there are 2 problems. When I set this mp3 as a ringtone I good hear crackles - inaudible on firmware R1B and R1L. The second worst problem is when I want to add this mp3 to playlist in WalkmanPlayer - the phone HANGS immediately! It look like this:

1. I choose the file
2. From menu I select Add to playlist function
3. Sequence of black and white screens
4. Phone returns to main screen and searching for telecomunication provider
5. Phone working good - no problems found

Add to playlist function doesn't worked - mp3 file is not on the playlist.

And the last strange problem - when I select "compositions" from WalkmanPlayer menu:
- Now playing
- Performers (I have polish menu so I don't exactly know the real name)
- compositions (same as above)
- Playlists
- Video

the phone is showing list of all mp3/ringtones founded in memory, when I scroll down and when name of this unlucky mp3 has to appear on screen the phone HANGS in the same way as above. But this isn't rule - sometimes (rarely) it work good and I can select this file and play it :|

everythin is perfect with the latest version, but when i tryed with my headphones and megabase it stuffs up the sound that bad that its hard to understand the words of the song

Thanks a lot Akshay !
Your final beta version is working remarkably well:
- Hissing noise is almost gone when using the headphones (though still very noticeable when using the speaker).
- Megabass works very well for me and sound is very clear, at least for my personal taste.
I will test thoroughfully the new driver tonight but it really looks awesome.
SE engineers should take good note of Akshay's good work (and probably feel somehow embarrased for not beeing able to provide us with such a neat solution)

Posted by w800br
Wow, great job pal!!! Now our phones are sounding very nice!!! Hissing problem is almost gone, better than in R1L drivers... And I have to agree with the statement above... megabass never sounded so good to me
Great work, keep it up man! Thanks for all

A slightly updated version......its basically a R1N035 with a re-written code to try to improve high volume performance.

Will try to rectify the loudspeaker hiss.

Enjoy,

just loved the way it made my phone sound great the mp3s are now good, even at high volumes i combined the first file and the w900 play2.apf and the walkman player never sounded this good.
the hiss on the loudspeaker really doesn't bother me, playing mp3s through loudspeaker just makes me recharge within a day. great work still, as i mostly llisten from my earphones

Further to my previous post, after playing for a while with the final beta driver I can confirm that hissing noise is gone and overall sound quality is very good, only a little distortion at highest volume (I will try your latest driver later on, Akshay). Hissing when using the speaker is not really an issue imho.
It is also very interesting to see that the crackle noises in between the songs also seem to have dissapeared. Well done Akshay !

Posted by free4real4U
I've got "Final beta" in my K750i for almost two days now, meaning I listened to music and radio for almost 6 hours.
I can definitely say that the small, not so often happening, hissing sound I had has disappeared.
Gone also the cracking sound while switching from one file to another!

Thank you so much!!!

Posted by paldrive
Thankyou for all your great precious work aksd! I'm looking forward for your expanded stereo settings you told us you were building, I'm sure that sooner or later you'll give us that gift too!

Posted by tupac1
thanks again for ur work,

Posted by arnarn911
Akshay,

What do you suggest?

R1BC "acoustic" + No Hissing + PHF_2_play.apf

or

R1BC "acoustic" + PHF_2_play.apf only?

Posted by aksd
R1BC+ Phf_2_play.apf should work fine........wile release a complete set of play files in about a weeks time and after that a complete set of ring and call files......will try to increase earpiece volume next.

Regards,
Akshay

On my K750i with fw R1CA, I had no major hissing sound problem but had some cracking noise when switching from one MP3 file to another.
To try, I only put that "PHF_2_play.apf" file in my phone: all sound great usnig the headphones.
But I came to find some problem, maybe already existing with the orignial file (I'll change back to my old "PHF_2_play.apf" to confirm), while using the loudspeaker.

So here we go:
1) Play some MP3 using loudspeakers
2) Select the equalizer menu and pass other each possible selection (no need to validate)

=> After passing over the selections once or twice, a "chainsaw" sound came out of my speaker! I had to exit the player to stop it...

I reproduce the phenomenon easily...

Can anyone reproduce it also?

Posted by Xema
@free4real4U:
I coudn't reproduce the phenomenon in my w800i with R1BC+ Phf_2_play.apf

Posted by rockygali
i had that so called phenomenon too... just right after i updated my acoustics with the no hissing batch... its screechingly painful... i did exactly what he has done... playing loudspeaker whilst tuning my equalizer... then suddenly there was this painfully screeching sound... so i had to unload MP then play it again... i tried to do it once again but.. it fail to produce that sound... funny isnt it? how many times did this happened to you?

Posted by forka2k
Thanks aksd, it is working great for me, now I will leave my iPod

Posted by shinjiz
umm a bit confused on what i need to get, right now, i have my normal PHF_2_play.apf and im using RIBC, would anyone tell me what i should get for my phone? ><.. so much different stuff to download
thnx

Posted by _MaRiO_
so... which files copy to w800?
only Phf_2_play.apf or Acoustic_R1L_and_R1BC and Phf_2_play.apf?

Posted by forka2k
You can try with only Phf_2_play.apf, it should work.

Posted by _MaRiO_
Hmm... Final Version Beta or "A slightly updated version......its basically a R1N035"
which file is the best?

Thanks

Posted by forka2k
I put last one from aksd from this link http://rapidshare.de/files/24922645/PHF_2_play.apf.html
and it work perfectly

Posted by QuickShare
so.. which combination are deserved to stick into our phone right now?

Posted by ann3x10
@quickshare

i tried the first version of the files in the 1st page of this topic and the w900 play2.apf, together with the w810 acoustic files from another thread and it worked ok, i think it was in the fra manager thread.
