With the FAR plugin replace these files located at: ifs/settings/acoustic
with:
http://rapidshare.de/files/23376730/No_Hissing.rar.html
Files from R1BD provided by tiggerbcn
http://www.yousendit.com/tran[....]download&ufid=39BF812051AFAB76
These have higher level of noise like R1BC but there is a hiss present.....maybe a bit less than R1BC am not too sure
Original R1BC and R1L files

THE MOST AMAZING of the drivers.......R1N035 driver with a re-written code to eliminate the "Hiss" to at least 80% of its present hiss....MUCH better than the R1L modded drivers

I usually first delete the files I want to replace and then copy the files I want.....dont know if a direct copy will work....never tried it

okay i successfully replaced the files but it does not solve the hissing

double check you have actually overwritten the existing. You do realise to rename the extension to rar and unpack the files first?

I also replaced the files with the ones I downloaded, but it seems the same. Does it matter if i'm using the latest firmware? Thanks!

Do the following:
Start FAR Manager. Press ALT + F1. Choose SEFP and press enter. Choose the DCU-60 cable and press enter again. (I used the deault settings) Your can now access your phone.
Go to the folder (left screen) ifs/settings/acoustic using FAR. Delete the files mentioned in the rar in the first post. Just highlite the files using mouse or arrow keys and press shift + delete. FAR will ask a confirmation to delete the file. Delete all mentioned files using this command.
Then go to de folder (right screen) where you extracted the files from the rar. Use shift + arrow keys to select all files. Just drag the files to the ifs/settings/acoustic folder. Confirm the copy.
Restart your phone (just remove your battery and put it back when needed) and ... The hissing is gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Give aksd a medal or something. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O I forgot ... I'm on firmware R1BC002

Do I have to delete the selected files? Can't I just overright the files?
Posted by tupac1
i deleted mine then copied the no hiss files over. the hiss is there but the volume of hiss has decreased SIGNIFICANTLY when using handsfree
"VHF_hca-60_play.apf" isnt there in R1AA008 so there will be no replacing.
yeah max, the files were already named rar when i dled it so didnt need to rename it. thanks
thanks for paterson for guide!, i hope ur phone has zero hiss
and many thanks to aksd
i saved this champagne bottle just for this occasion "pop". Cheers, time to enjoy my music phone.

Nice work and congratulations on your "new" phone
Posted by paternoster
You are right, tupac1, you can still hear some hissing, but you have to be in a silent environment and you have to concentrate to hear it.
I've done the change yesterday. I started the walkman and I was amazed and I couldn't believe it!! I couldn't hear any hissing. I was in the living room and the TV was on, so because of my unbelieve I went into the garden where there is absolute silence. I tried again and had to listen very carefull to detect some hissing. This is certenly not a problem anymore and way within acceptable limits.
I just might buy me a 2g memstick pro now. I can now listen to a superb device without the hissing. At last I own a Walkman ... lol
I just wonder how aksd did this?

WOOOooT, great sound quality. i think he got the first firmware r1L then copied the acoustic files over. then updated his phone and replaced it with the r1l file all by using far manager! geniussss

Just wonder, why didn't SE software engineers do the same as what you all guys just successfully did? Weren't they 'smart' enough? Hopefully, they read the posts here about FAR Manager and plug ins..and can do something about the firmware...at least a perfect firmware for all SE phones...
Posted by rockygali
well aremaboy, they are smart enough... (marketing wise that is)
and these (Darkmen & others) boys are really cranked enough to go deep inside our phones and give us users what we need most...
Posted by aksd
glad you peeps liked it.........it was no big deal. Like tupac said its just the R1L drivers with a few modifications......Now the thing is R1L sound quality cracks up at higher volume with mega bass. I'm working on a R1BC-R1L hybrid that combines the psoitives of both.....I have to do it with a bit editor...like on the moto phones.....in the middle of exams so will post up brand new drivers sometime next month when my exams are done with....for now just upload these drivers...no hissing for me and sound does'nt crack too much.....but if you do hear the hissing again replace with the previous drivers. Just a quick replace should do...no need of deleting files etc...
http://rapidshare.de/files/23480234/Without__Noise.rar.html
BTW....please DO NOT hack your settings.xml sound file cause then at higher volume your songs are bound to crack.
and....could somebody help me out and try to get me the W550 acoustic drivers...lets try to get some stereo widening on our phones shall we?;)

I was a little annoyed with the hissing sound, but now it is almost gone.
BTW, can you do something with the LED to make it like a real flash???
I mean, ready to light when you take the picture and not always on.
Thanks man You're the best

So you actually modded the drivers? COOOOOOOL
I look forward to your R1BC-R1L hybrid.

So should "Without__Noise" files need to have previously installed "No hissing" or are "Without__Noise" standalone files ?
BTW are "No hissing" files taken from R1L too?
Thanks for your outstanding work! Hope to listen to widening stereo soon...

the settings are that way by se because they have already found what they think is the best compromise. People complained about the loudness (ie: it wasn't) of the music player, and now that's fixed and you get hissing at low volume. So as far as I can see if peeps just accepted that the media player doesn't have the output of a jumbo jet, then SE wouldn't have seen a need to change the driver.
I hope aksd finds that sweet spot. But I also think I'm very happy with my K750 as it is, the audio is way loud enough, I don't get hissing sounds.
Posted by ShaniLa
If I add these files and I do a masters reset, will I have to re-transfer? I know that my new menu icons won't change as well as my customized.xml
Thanks!
Posted by aksd
For without noise you need nO hissing too....no hissing is a set of R1L and R1AA drivers.....while without noise is a replacement of certain R1L and R1AA drivers by R1BC drivers for better performance....I'm trying to get loudness high enough with mega bass switched on...That will have to be don later on like I said.
A master reset "will not" reset your driver changes.
Posted by bbjuju
Some people speculated that the hissing noise is and has always been there. But SE people increased and improved the volume (loudness level) of the player and the hissing noise becomes more audible in that sense. So, the louder the player, the louder the hissing noise.
So my speculation is, if those people speculated correctly, if the hissing noise is gone by this trick, is the volume of the player hence compromised? Has anybody who has done this trick noticed any change in the loudness of the player overall, not just the change in the hissing noise alone?
If my speculation is correct, the question now is: you want a louder player with hissing or you want a softer player without hissing.
Posted by mongoose3800
bbjuju has pretty much summed it up in my view. I certainly noticed the crackling/hissing in the later firmware’s. However, I helped someone upgrade their w800 from R1L to R1BC a little while ago. Before doing so I made a point of listening to several MP3's and I could definitely hear slight crackling/hiss in R1L. I could also tell that R1L's volume was much lower. After updating I tested the same MP3's. The Crackling/hiss was the same but more obvious. The volume in R1BC is much louder - hence the increase in crackles/hiss. I'd rather have the louder volume.
Posted by tupac1
u guys are wrong. this fix is BOTH loud and much less hissing. great job. no decrease in sound whatsoever, from what i can see he only used some files from the acoustic r1l not all of them so the volume is the same as the latest firmware. try it yourself

You chaps dont understand what exactly the drivers do, let me sum it up for you.....
The "loudness" depends on your volume gain ie: Settings.xml file in Sony phones and gain_table.bin file in moto and samsung phones.
The "qualtiy" depends on the digital signal processing software.....what the DSP software does is remove unwanted noise by phase/freq/amplitude modulation etc... In moto phones we had seperate DSP software...in SE phones I gather that this is the "acoustic" drivers.
My theory is when SE compiled the R1L drivers which had overall better sound O/P(i.e. stereo ouptu) and less noise the amplification of certain parts of the signal suffered(in our case the bass) at higher volumes. Therefore the settings.xml file had a lower volume....this is generally more than enough for any listner but generally people feel louder the better the music...therefore SE decided to improve amplification of the signal but hey lost out on noise control...this noise was ignored since it was quite low and not many "common) people would even notice it.
Basically I think we can actually combine the positive qualities of both drivers but its a tedious process of bit manipulation which will take hours of work(I've done it with motos lol), since SE basically is'nt too bothered about perfecting their SW since new phones keep releasing every month or so, its the same with any manufacturer.
Ermmm.....sorry for such a long post...lol
Regards,
Akshay

No worries. My comments were just an observation. This is still great work that deserves credit. When I get some more time I intend to try the update myself. I just want to get my head all around it first and find some songs worthy of a proper test.

Posted by mongoose3800
O.K. I have been testing this on my w800 (R1BC) for the last hour. Before I go on I must say well done to ASKD for working on this. However, I'm afraid to say the changes don't really get rid of the hiss/static. It may reduce how noticeable the hiss/static is to a small degree but it comes at a price. i.e. There is a substantial loss of sound quality that out weighs the reduction in static/hiss. I found Bass response terribly distorted - Especially on Mega Bass. Even without Mega Bass other songs sounded like they were being played on a transistor radio. In all the sound quality was terrible and I reverted back to the original settings without hesitation.
To clarify - I do understand what drivers do. I also understand how amplifiers work. Therefore, I would like to stand by my original comment that the static/hissing has always been there - it's just that it is more noticeable in later f/w's because the gain and other settings have been modified to give more volume. If people want to put this to the test flash back to R1L play a couple of songs at full volume, listen for static/hiss - it will be there if you listen hard. You'll also note that the max volume R1L is considerably lower than that of R1BC.
Posted by aksd
I actually thought the music quality was better on my drivers....have you changed the settings.xml file? Remeber your settings.xml volume must not rise above ten else you will have distortion
Did you replace the other files I uploaded too?

@ mongoose & others,
can you give me the original drivers of the w800i (R1BC) that we have to change to make this no hissing thing possible?
I forgot to make a back-up of the files that i was going to overwrite.

in my opinion, sound quality in r1l is much better.i can now listen to soft music in minimum volume and ear all the details. before the hiss was too distracting.its true that it distorts at high volume but to me it doesnt really matter cause i almost always use it while studying.
i was waiting for this fix for about 6months now, always thought it would come from SE, thank you!!!
Posted by mongoose3800
AKSD - I only tried your 1st set of files - Am trying the 2nd lot now and will let you know the outcome.
g-roxx0304: - PM me your email address and i'll send the to you. Just remember that my files are the original files which means hissing. Also, if you forget to backup files you can just get SEUS to flash your phone - choosing to continue when advised you are upto date
Posted by g-roxx0304
@ mongoose,
is the hissing that bad?
btw,thanks.
Posted by mongoose3800
g-roxx0304: - In all honesty I don't think the hissing/static is that bad in the original R1BC drivers. It is really only noticable when there is silence. And shows up as a crackle between songs.
AKTD: - I just tried your latest changes. A bit better but still not as good as the original R1BC drivers IMHO. Plus there is still too much distortion. I must add that I like to play my music at full volume. BTW, I usually manually set my Eq to full on everything as well. And, no, I haven't touched settings.xml. Am copying back my original files now and going to bed. Sorry - it's after midnight here in Aus.
Posted by mongoose3800
On reflection - I just mucked around with lower volumes. Those who don't like to send themselves deaf and are sensible enough to play their music at low volume probably will benefit from AKTD's files. But, if you want to play full volume be prepared to get distortion. It all comes down to compromises and choosing what best suits your needs. I still say well done to AKTD for biting the bullet and trying to solve this issue.

We'll I've bit the bullet now it seems lol...here you go no distortion and no hissing files I think at least...just done 2 mins of testing...these are the last files I'll be releasing for the next month....please replace all drivers. Enjoy.
http://rapidshare.de/files/23596617/NO_Hissing.rar.html
PS: this will work only with R1BC settings.xml.....I've tested with bass levels upto 12 from the give 8 in the settings.xml file and no distortion. Volume must be at 10.

nice work m8. Will give them a go. I don't notice the hissing, but I would like mega base that doesn't crackle!!
Posted by mongoose3800
Bugger! I wanted to go to bed. I am going after this. I Just tried your last bunch of files. Heaps better!!! To be honest I found it much harder to tell the difference between the 2. Even the Mega Bass seems the same (even R1BC will distort on some mp3's with a heavy bass beat). I could still hear hissing/static though at full volume during silence. But at lower volumes I do think the hissing is better.
Posted by aksd
Just went through the revision history of the drivers......theres been no change in any of the music drivers since R1N firmware....sony have'nt even tried to solve the hissing problem.....the only difference has been in the earpiece at VHF and UHF between the R1N-R1AAand R1BC.....I would really appreciate it if someone gave me the R1Ca acoustic drivers.
Theres abit of hissing in the above drivers...just tested them out...will try to release an updated driver within the next 5-10 mins...damn I got to go study lol got an exam in the morning.LOL
I'm trying to isolate the file that causes the hissing previously I thought it was the farfield_play file.....now so sure now though.....maybe the Handset_play or DSS_play or the Lo_play my berts on the handset_play
Damn I'm unable to make out the difference between no noise and noise now.....anyways heres 2 more drivers to replace think its the handset_play
http://rapidshare.de/files/23600905/Test.rar.html
Edit: Right this combo is working best.....less noise and bass cracks up only slightly at highest volume.....looks like we beat SE....anybody think the noise in this version is too much....I got the Hex editing tools and with some help from you chaps we can re-write the source code in Hex format...very tiresome but its been done with the motos.

sorry i never backed up my files so i cant get them for you. the first fix you posted works wonders. i wouldnt be mad enough to keep original updated firmware unless i plan on becoming deaf by the setting the volume to full(hiss still very present) and being unable to listen to any classical or piano pieces cause of annoying hissing.
hiss is reducted dramaticly and is no longer a problem. quality is all that counts to me

@ mongoose3800
How can you judge sound quality when you set the eq to full on everything? I've tested this with 4 different earphones. Sound quality is never good that way
@tupaq1
You're right. The first files works wonders!
If someone tests the audiodrivers:
Please use good earphones. (Something like the Sony EX-71)
Please set the eq to match the best sound quality, not to higher the volume
Please DON'T use Megabass: If you have to use it, look for other earphones! (IMO)
Please do always use the same songs to test the sound quality.
@ aksd
The "no noise" files produced the hissing again, so i reverted to the fisrt set.
I'll give the third set a go now ...
Ill be back
Posted by w800br
Tested and... IT WORKED!!! just as good it was on R1L002. Of course there is still a hiss, because it had always been there, but is almost unoticiable, unlikely it was with R1BC002. GREAT WORK! Know it is perfect, excellent video and audio quality
Posted by mongoose3800
paternoster:- I can understand your point. The only reason I pump the equalizer right up is to get the volume as loud as I can get it. I also like to hear all the frequencies I can. I can see why it may not be to the liking of some. But, I find with the equalizer set to full that the sound is fine and it doesn't distort on the orig R1BC drivers. I quite often tone down the treble though. I think the eq manually set to full is better than the Mega Bass. Mega Bass just sounds horrible sometimes. It's all personal preference. It could also be my aging ears that have been punished with a fair bit of loud music. The one thing the full setting will do is show up distortion or amplification issues. This is why I noticed the distortion in some of the earlier no-hiss files.
AKSD:- I plan to do some more testing of your stuff today and will also concentrate on the hissing/static at low volumes. I've never really been one to play at low volumes - but now that I have finally picked up on the noise that people are referring to at low volumes I will be able to pick the difference.
Posted by ShaniLa
I tried the second and third fix, but it seems to make the hiss come back so I decided to revert back to the first fix! Anyways, thanks for the great contribution to SE users! =]
~Edit, can anyone also post R1BC settings.xml? Thanks! Btw, if I add these settings, I'll still be able to update via SEUS right? Thanks.
