I love the quality of the k800i. I think people forget that before this, each phone camera was improving 2 fold.

No blur on the inflight birds!

Posted by masseur
I'm also finding myself taking more shots with K800 than I ever did with any camera phone before

here is one taken outside the hotel opposite Maylebone station in London

full size

nice number plate too!

one question. what is the shutter lag and picture to picture times like and is auto focus faster then the k750?

Posted by digdub
the shutter lag is short, maybe slightly less than 1 second? autofocus is fast, i think about the same as k750i.

can you switch off the light when you take photo's with the K800?

Posted by jj03
you mean the red light that emit's when your focusing on something?

You seem to resize most of your sample photos down to 1000x750pixels. Is this because more comfortable viewing of them?

Unfortunately resizing makes details as well as the much discussed and feared noise (and noise suppression artefacts) to diminish - and worst of all - the lossy compressed JPEG file format suffers during resaving as the 8x8pixels blocks get recreated.

So, why don't you upload full size samples? In HowardForum you uploaded at least one (DSC00480-full.jpg) but for some peculiar reason you uploaded it to yousendit.com instead of imageshack.us where your resized ones are hosted. Imageshack accepts uploading of files up to 1.5MB size, and I have yet to see a K800 photo larger than 1MB, usually around 800-900KB.

Somewhere I recall noticing you telling using IrfanView for resizing. Correct? Anyway, I played a little with your full size photo, DSC00480-full.jpg:

Based on the resulted filesize of the resized copy you must have used the 92% Save quality setting on JPEG options window (resizing with Lanczos filter). Why not 100% - if you insist resizing?

Hope you understand, we'd love to see your fine night shots in their full glory - as genuine originals! Rather upload the originals and save locally the resized copies, if you have to consider your harddisk capacity. Thank you!

yes, you can turn the flash off if you don't want it (shortcut is the * key)

datx,

Well yes, picky I am but not mean. You should know me by now in "our" other forum... damn this ever ongoing twist, resized vs full size. Sorry upsetting you, sensitive readers.

yup, resizing is for easier viewing on screen, and to have a better size to quality ratio so that pictures wouldn't take take too long to load. also, i save at 90%, saving at jpg 100% quality results in a filesize which is roughly 3 times bigger at 90% but without discernible difference in quality, at least not to my naked eye.

as for hosting on imageshack, i do not know why they are always resized to 1600x1200, even though the filesize is below the 1mb limit, so i hosted them on yousendit instead.

Digdub: Stunnishing pics! The best K800/790 photos I have ever seen. The resolution, colors, focus, background blur, everything is perfect. Are they raw? They look just too good!

lol. they are now RAW, it would be great if k800i can take RAW pics though. yea, guess the sun was pretty good that day, the lighting was good enough to enable me to take some good shots.

But the tail lights don't match up, so i think it might be the new delfino http://www.delfino.co.uk/frameset.htm

Actually, the Ultima GTR is not the fastest supercar in the world.
It was the McLaren F1, but it is currently the bugatti veyron (252mph).
The Ultima GTR does hold the fastest time for 0-100-0, because of its weight and amazing braking power. This allows it to accelerate fast and brake hard, however it is not so good at top end speed (tops out just over 200mph).

To clear up that car is not a TVR, its not a Koenigsegg and neither is it the delfino (the side panels are completely different, the light cluster is different and the wing mirrors are in a different place).

To finally clear this up, the car we are looking at is infact an MBR V8.
If you want to know more about the car look here.

In my drunken state I somehow activated Macro mode! I was wondering why it was taking ages to Autofocus!!!

Ahhh! Finally someone to display nightlife photos via the k800!

Lemme ask you, how easy is it to operate when you're a bit tipsy/people are waiting for the flash? Do you think you can get better pics than that (a k a are DigDub esque quality photos capable in those tight situations)

This is what I care about, any info about its use in the nightlife would be MOST appreciated

Saleen will soon be smashing the world fastest supercar with their performance enhanced model with 1100bhp model, which costs mear fraction of the puggly Veyron!

Have posted some pictures on another website, hope it's ok to link to them here

http://www.expansys.com/photos.asp?code=132648

Pictures are straight out of the camera and not resized.

Have also just returned from a weeks holiday in the Lake District and the camera worked liked a dream, got some great pictures that printed out perfectly.

Only thing I'd like is to be able to force the on for backlit shots.

Hope you like them

Andy

well got my k800i this morning and just cant stop taking pictures! i had to share some!

My cat! playing dead

And some sweets!

and a fish in the tank at work

@ Hurst

I think I could get better quality. I think the second pic down of my two mates is pretty decent. Here is another pic I took from the same night:

That was without night mode and with Macro mode on (which I did by accident). I am sure with nightmode and without Macro mode on that would look sharper and brighter.

I am out again tonight in low light conditions and I'll post some photos to my blog so keep an eye on http://dcuk7.blogspot.com/ if you want to see some more club shots.
