Pixel increase isn't linear, it's compound.

To double to quality of a 2mp cam you'd need to go to 8mp

To double to quality of a 0.6 you only need to go to 2.4mp

Hence why the jump between 0.6 to 2mp is a vast increase, whereas the 2 to 3.2 isn't anywhere near as noticable, although it IS noticable when printed. Something which you aren't comparing.

You won't notice any "WOW" when you compare the N73 or N93 either as they're still only 3.2!

Please excuse me if this has been posted before somewhere....this is a comparison of N80 vs K800 vs K750 camera capabilities http://www.gsmarena.com/3mp_test_nokia_n80_se_k800-review-79.php The K800 wins almost everytime

Posted by jj03
Just a quick question...when i go to take a pic, and press the cam button halfway down, a red light emit's from the flash then goes when the autofocus sounds...anybody know what this is? is it some sort of sensor?

Posted by RyaN
So im told the red light helps the auto-focus, well, focus! Its something used in Sony digi cams also. Loving this phone as an upgrade to my W800

Posted by jj03
thank god for that..thought there was something wrong with the phone...btw..have to say, am quite impressed with the Photomate option, showing you what the different camera modes are used for and how to get the best out of them...quality.

Posted by SonySandy
Would the red light not be red-eye reduction? seems to help, normal red eye reduction i've seen in the past is usually a quick flash before the main flash, which does result in red eye reduction, 'cos by that point most folk have their eye half shut to blink! lol

I have compared my K800i with my K750i. All settings in auto in both phones.

K800i (3,2mp)

K750i (2mp)

The red LED is for autofocus, not anti-red eye (which, when enabled, will flash a bit before taking the shot like any 'proper' cam). It only comes on in low light, and when autofocus is on.

The K800 has a variety of preset modes and the post-image processing adjusts a number of things, including sharpness and colour. So, using auto can result in shots that can prove disappointing. Take a landscape shot in auto and the focus can be out, so you select landscape instead - which also enables the image stabiliser (this will crop the image slightly, but gets a sharp picture every time).

Some people will hate the need to plan ahead, but the K800 is trying to be a proper camera! For simple point and shoot, a W810 is probably just as good because 3.2 isn't a massive increase over 2 megapixel. I'm so glad someone has mentioned the need to double both X and Y resolution (i.e. quadruple) the pixel count to really improve the quality.

The real improvements on the K800 aren't the extra pixels but a proper flash, image stabilisation, increased speed and the awesome BestPic mode. I've got a N80 and a pre-release N73 and they can't boast any of these things.

how did you get the N73 and does the battery last as long as the K800

Here's a pic I took the other day in an O2 UK store.

I think whilst the colour reproduction may be more vibrant on the K750i than the K800, there is significantly less noise on the K800. Even in good lighting such as this my old K750i would still have noticable noise lines in the darkest areas.

Here's an outdoor picture I took today:

Just a sugesstion, resize k800 pics to 1024x768, it's much better then.

Totally agree! The colour range/vibrancy isn't as good as the k750 (yet - i hasten to add), but the images are shaper and the noise is less.

TBH the image quality isn't that much better than the k750 imo, but the Cyber-shot function on the phone is more refined and faster. Image quality is still better than the sample pics i've seen from any of the Nokia 3mpx cameras including the n93, and im not saying that because I have an SE, if you look at the Nokia pics they are full of noise and blurry areas.

Comaring K800 pictures compared with e.g. K750 reveals that the K800 auto exposure and white balance makes the pictures a bit overexposed (colors becom a bit pale) and a bit bluish.

I think with manual settings you could get better pictures. The auto setting will probably be fixed in forthcomming FW releases.

The k800 pics looks sharper though and appears to have clearer details specially with textures.

Man the k800i rocks when taking pictures

Posted by jmcomms
Some of the pics I posted aren't great but I love the ability to manually adjust a lot of options (nearly all of the pics I've posted were on auto though).

I have to say the scaling on this forum doesn't do much for the image quality. I probably should have used Photoshop to reduce them to 1024x768 or 800x600 but then I'd be accused of having edited them! Thing is, phpBB is doing that, and a lot worse!

I guess this will be more of a problem as image sizes increase in the future...

Taken at 3mp and resized to 800x600. Macro focus used when appropriate.

Is just that the w800 seems to be focussing on the corners of the A4 paper in the background while the other seems to be focussing right on the bottle.

I think that might have something to do with the spot geometry which i dont think w800 has.

does any one know if it is possible to save all 9 pics taken using best pic? thanks

Posted by masseur
yes, you can do that but you have to save them one at a time. there is no option to do them all at once

Posted by kallegod

Some of my first night mode pics (Twilight landscape with stabilizer). All three taken 2006-07-08 between 22.30 and 22.45 (pm 10.30-10.45).

Posted by libben
Nice picture from barnhusbron.

Posted by admad
masseur, does that mean that we can't save all 9 pics? If yes then, what is the max number of photos we can save?

Posted by masseur
sorry if my answer was not clear.

Yes you CAN save all 9 pictures but you cannot save them all at the same time. When you use best shot you get a row of thumbnails for each image and you then use the joystick to position to one that you want and then you click save to save it.

you are then returned to the list of thumbnails where you can select another image and save that one.

each image saved is ticked so you know you've done it.

So, as you can see, you can save all the images but only buy saving them one at a time. It would be nice to have a "save all" option though I susppose its rare that you would use it

here a pic of what I am talking about

Posted by kallegod

Thanks libben.

Posted by admad
I see thanks, it's just a 10 sec more to click and save them one by one, but it would be nicer if SE would think of "save all" button ...

It'a amazing, can u take close shot, or post full size pic?

HHmm... this is sad... i dont see much improvements for a SE 3.2MP cam. I was really hoping to get this..

Pictures are not clear, and colours are washed. Contrast is below par. Heres a comparison with my Sharp903 3.2MP cam, quality is reduced by esato tho..

O2,

unfortenately with reduced size of the pictures its not possible to see big differences beween 903 and K800. If you have both K800 and 903, perhaps picture of same object and full size pictures would be easier to compare.

I believe sharp 903 is bigger than K800 and hence should be able to fit better components than K800 (e.g. bigger sensor etc.), which should be able to give better pictures .

I can try to get closer but is damn high so i think thas not possible..=/

Posted by taniame
@Arne

Yes, you are correct. 903 is much bigger actually. Here in the states, some of my friends laughed at it at first sight claiming: Must be an old phone with big butt size.

Keep in mind 903 has 2x OZ which totally beats K800.

However, for a 3.2 MP af only camera, why you need OZ for? You are not going to print out your cell phone photo for exhibitions............

Posted by Arne Anka
That's my point. Its a trade off between phone size and picture quality. The bigger it is the more and bigger components can be put into it to get better picture quality. Think K800 does a pretty good job concidering the size of it (still need some improvements in the auto settings). Haven't seen any other 3 Mpx phone of same size and form factor as K800 providing better picture quality.
