i have weird idea. could somebody of u ( or maybe some of u together ) make a mobile fone? i am technically more then stupid, cannot even create a thm on my own, but here are so many talentated members, the knowledge is so huge in this forum, could it be done? is it very complicated? we could vote here for different designs ( mods could make an own thread for this project ), imo its not problem to build the fone from different aparts of different brands, what counts, is the result. what are your thoughts?

Unfortunately we couldn't make a special Esato 'phone' from the bits of others - I bet they'll be copyright issues!
Nice idea, but I suspect it would cost millions to R & D a completely new phone from scratch!
Special Esato phone covers would be a good idea though, and perhaps a good way for Esatonians to pick each other out when out and about?

Sammy_boy: Yes, you´ve right. It would had to be a deal between Esato and SE, which SE off course never would agree to unless they at least got some percents from sale. Something like an exclusive goodwill for this netsite which is promoting SE more than anyone else.. maybe only one tiny little model.. premium stuff
But it could have been a great phone.. and with Esato firmware

I tried this a couple of years ago when we had the Esato Shop up and running.
I tell you; it costs a fortune!!!
Creating the design is simple enough but having them produced is another. The financial risk of producing the covers in small quantities are a gamble with money that not even the most welthy in the mobile industry would dare do.
Imagine the senario:
A design is created. (As saied; simple enough)
A manufacturer for the covers are found but to keep the cost down a certain quantity has to be produced. (Usually the lowest limit for a reduction in price is 100 items)
has a few different phones with the option of hanging covers on the market; a selection of covers for different phones has to be made. (Not to forget that there is new phones introduced all the time so new covers for new phones has to be made)
Esato has just over 90500 members where the wast majority are not too active in here to be even worth mentioning. (The market is very limited. We are talking about, maybe, 500 potential buyers (That is an optimmisitic guess!) where of 50% will find it too expensive and another 25% won't find it interesting.. That leaves us with 150 buyers with at least 5 different types of phones)
The idea is good but twist it, turn it, do what ever you ant with it, the mathematics of it all just won't add up; This is going to be way too costly.
The ONLY way this is possible to pull through is is some exremly welthy member desides to start throwing money out the window.

hmmm reading tranquills post I can see his point. I have to say there is no way we as members can make a phone, I myself was contemplating re manufactuting a moto razr into a sliding phone, and came pretty close (has ideas and plans etc) and was then thinking of sending it to moto, but the main probalem was creating a new ribbon cable (would have had to design and make them with a very limited budget/resorces) in the end It just wasnt feasable.
Now back to the point laffen brought up, we can't go for really unique items such as phone coveres its just not feasable, but what you guys aint thinking about is other esato things. How many people here love buying those SE mouse mats, or for that fact mugs, or pens, hell why not one of those small stickie things that lights up when people ring you with a esato logo on? Honnestly I can see quite a few people wanting this kind of stuff as the S-E stuff is so popular. I myself know of some basic printing services (like pixmania) Prehaps a small markup can be added that way we can rasie some profit and give a lile back to esato? Get some new serveres (in time) or work on a redesign. ALso create some kind of moto or catch line I dno
We could ask for small donations from members to get it up and running, then hold design competitions where the winning designer can have a free item or something?
It would be a great little comunity project and I myself would be willing to help it along, I could raffle some of my smaller bits and donate some of it to "The Esatorian Cause" I also wouldnt mind helping out in the promotion and sales of these goods along with the manufacturing of them .
Whats your thoughts?

Stickers for cars etc... may be a good idea and a oppertunity to gain on 'free' advertising

perhaps just get some nice little "esato" logos printed on decals/stickers for people to attach to their current cover! or maybe those little flashing led things that go off when the phone sends/reveives calls? just my 2 cents worth... Id buy one

this site http://www.makemymegastore.com can be used to make custome keyrings/mousemats etc as well as phone covers, but only nokias like this
they aint exactly cheap but maybe contacting them for a bulk order would bring the price down
