New craze: Mobile pet trees!

This cool key chain contains a cactus that you carry around until it outgrows the key chain then remove and plant like normal. The latest craze from Japan, Pet Trees are set to take the UK by storm! It can go on a mobile phone, handbag, rucksack or any accessory you desire.

Once it out-grows the bell jar, it can be removed and planted in plant pot.

Water every two weeks (in summer season), every once a month (in winter season) or follow the instructions (depending on the type of captus/plant) by placing bottom of bell jar in a saucer of water.

I have a one which is a long green captus with white spikes which is so cute! I named it Spikey! It looks similar to this one:

I will take a picture of mine so you can see it

How awsome!? What else will they think of next? Kind of cool, instead of having it in your phone, its dangling from it! Ha Ha Ha...

Where can you get this?

Thanks, KLG2992- Kevin

@ KLG2992: they are pretty cool. I got mine from a local computer fair for £5. Try eBay as i seen some being auctioned on there also serach for "mobile pet trees or pet plants" on google.

It's like that of the TOMAGOCHI craze in the late 90's - virtual pet ! But this one looks like a BONSAI ! Nice !

haha... i got one a year ago, when i was doing some work, visited some korean guy's place where he was growing trays and trays of these things on his balcony... he was to sell them at a local gift market....

i hung it in my car (on the dash) for a while, before giving it away to a friend... very hardy little things that require a little water....

@frubin - Yeah . . . but this looks more 'livelier' though bulkier to carry around . . . or is it? as the Tomagochi is like a mini-Gameboy in black & white . . .

It's not bulky, but you have to be careful with it through.

Oh remember the Tomagochi's as i used to have a copy of one!

axxxr originally posted about these around 18 months ago in his The latest fad in japan thread.

Indeed I bougt a load of these last Christmas as little figts for friends and my daughter has one hanging from her phone since then too, though they don't seem to last that long so she has replaced it 2 or 3 times

Are they well 'grounded'? I can see them coming loose from their base if you jangle your phone around too much - like in a bad or pocket!

Posted by masseur
yeah, they don't seem to last too long unfortunately but perhaps its just the way she treats them

we got ours from boysstuff.com or iwantoneofthose.com or one of those similar sites (cant remember exactly right now)

haha those are crazy
so they can actually grow to a full size plant?

I don't think so, as the glass container has a LIMITED space . . similar to that of a BONSAI I surmise

yeah, they are quite secure (from jangles etc)... from what i recall, it took a bit of effort to pull the base out...

Rubbish picture i know.

But i thought this thread needed one. I will see how long it lasts...

Very cool. These are much better than the artificial flowers that have flooded the market places. A lot of these wil contribute in gaseous exchange as we are mostly afferted by global warming. Hey Masseur, how are they doing? Are they growing like and into normal plants as it was said in the fist post?

Posted by SE4NICK
I seriously have to have one lol, perhaps i'll see one on my holiday at the markets......

Posted by batesie
i got 2 of them just over a year ago and they are doing fine
