"Learning from their debut at the FIFA World Cup four years ago, Ecuador produced a highly efficient team performance to deservedly take the three points in their opening game. Poland, more direct and anxious, will need to improve if they are to take something from their eagerly awaited fixture against hosts Germany."

ENGLAND 1 - 0 PARAGUAY
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/[....]all/world_cup_2006/4852606.stm
"England got the opening win they were looking for, but the performance in the second half was less than convincing. Paraguay can take heart from their battling display, though they had no reward for their efforts."

It wasn't a perfect start to the World Cup, but the formation that we changed to meant spending the 2nd half sitting back and defending...

I don't care a win is a win at the end of the day the first game will always be the tough! Bring on Thursday.

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO 0 - 0 SWEDEN
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/[....]all/world_cup_2006/4852634.stm
"Competing in their first finals, Trinidad and Tobago pulled off a famous result, showing tenacity and no lack of tactical discipline to hold the more favoured Sweden to a goalless draw. Playing against ten men for virtually the entire second half, Scandinavia’s sole representatives were unable to break through and will now have to regroup for their next match against Paraguay."

Yeah! Go TnT!! Damn they played with heart!! Im so proud! N sorry 4 England, they sucked!! :D Go DRC!!! Fingers crossed...
Posted by Sir-SonyEricsson-man
didn't like the play of Sweden..
Posted by Xugaa
786 England didn't suck at all, it may have been the boring decision but the decision/tactic decided was to sit back and play on the break in the 2nd half and we still had our chances though weren't as strong up front without owen to assist crouch. overall we were the better side, and even did well with "a bit" of a bad ref.

Nice, dodgy own-goal! Well done, you lot must be so proud
I'm just jealous, Scotland didn't make it hehehhhe. Well, actually, Jason Scotland plays for Trinidad & Tobago - have you seen the Irn-Bru advert of "Scotland on the team bus"?? Its just Jason Scotland on an empty coach! Its well funny hehehe
I'm supporting Togo this year, and obviously Brazil are my faves too! Had every Brazil top for the last 10 years.

SVERIGE! SVERIGE! SVERIGE!
Posted by JK
Xugaa theres no way a team lyk Eng wudv have sat back on a 1-0 win n even without scoring a goal, n d risk of drawing to Para! They were out played in the 2nd half!
Posted by Xugaa
wasn't a dodgy own goal, he hardly touched it actually
@786 - read my last post with a link on it, as i said it was not the players faults but a poor and boring manager's decision, sven is one great manager but he does confuse me sometimes lol

ARGENTINA 2 - 1 IVORY COAST
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/[....]all/world_cup_2006/4852660.stm
"Argentina held on for a precious victory in a classic end-to-end encounter, but Côte d’Ivoire were desperately unlucky not to claim in a point in a frenetic finish."

A win is a win end off!
Posted by Xugaa
Indeed...
Posted by JK
I see CIV doing well even though they in such a tough group, if they make it to the second round i definately see them going further!!
That was a strong Argentine team and they took the game to them!!
The Netherlands vs Serbia we'll see how they do...
And Angola vs Portugal, shame but I hope they play hard and manage a draw or something...
Posted by Xugaa
Yeah Ivory Coast were excellent and it was a shame that they did not get the equalizer they deserved, plus one of Argentina's goals was offside i think the commentators were saying and analysed.
Todays games (GMT +0 London Kickoff Times, UK Channels):

SERBIA & MONTENEGRO 0 - 1 HOLLAND
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/[....]all/world_cup_2006/4852670.stm
"Serbia and Montenegro fought all the way but the Dutch did enough to secure a narrow and important win in this keenly contested game. Van Basten can celebrate his first victory in a FIFA World Cup game, either as a player or coach. The Oranje can look ahead with confidence to facing Côte d'Ivoire on Friday while Serbia and Montenegro next face another daunting assigment against Argentina."

MEXICO 3 - 1 IRAN
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/[....]all/world_cup_2006/4852682.stm
"Iran suffered for their late collapse as Mexico finished with a 3-1 win which was arguably harsh on Ivankovic's men. The Mexicans will face Angola in their next match with confidence, but Iran – who looked a dangerous side in parts – must pick themselves up before facing Portugal."

ANGOLA 0 - 1 PORTUGAL
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/[....]all/world_cup_2006/4852704.stm
"Like England and the Netherlands before them, Portugal – one of the teams tipped to excel at Germany 2006 – had to settle for a narrow victory where the points mattered more than the performance. Angola can take heart from a battling display, however, on their debut appearance on the world stage."

I think its been great so far, ecspecially with not so big teams like Trinidad & Tobago and Angola playing there hearts and very much so giving the bigger teams quite a challenge! Still we also have to see Togo and Australia show us what their made of and I sure hope they do
