Can there be a difference in speed between two USB 2.0 products?

Is the USB transfer speed faster on an external hard drive than a USB flash drive?

Yup, it certainly is. USB 2.0 external hard drives reach transfer speeds of between 40 and 320Mbps whilst flash drives only average around 30Mbps.

This figure is rising quickly though and many flash drive manufacturers claim that they'll reach the full 480MBps rate by the end of 2007.
